Crisis was a major catalyst in the Legion's decline because the rampant retcons Levitz and future creative teams made would render the title near-incomprehensible for readers. For example, John Byrne's Man of Steel established that Clark Kent did not start his super heroic career as an adult and was thus never Superboy. The first crack appears because Superboy was both the team's inspiration and participated in most--if not all--of their adventures in the Silver Age and into the Bronze. Similarly, the character Mon-El could not exist because his origin was tied to Superboy as well. Levitz painted over the crack with the Pocket Universe Superboy and it worked for a little while...

...and then the Superman office demanded that Legion remove any reference to Superboy, and thus the soft-reboot we got in the TMK run. Mon-El gets the new moniker of Valor and takes Superboy's place as the Legion's inspiration and Supergirl gets a replacement in the form of Laurel Gand, later known as Andromeda. Another crack in appears in continuity, and more appear as TMK fuck up the Bronze Age Legionnaires (despite Timber Wolf joining the team in the Silver Age.) Things get worse when they introduce Batch SW6, and then things get so fucked up that DC reboots the team in Zero Hour.

Of course, the base is so broken after that that there are fans who incessantly complain about the postboot "Archie" Legion. DnA come on board--and surprise--more fans complain. Mark Waid reboots the Legion to wank the Silver Age again. Jim Shooter returns to the consternation of some of the fanbase. Geoff Johns brings back the "retroboot" Legion and fans complain that he is wanking his childhood Legion (again!) and the cycle never ends, so excuse me if I don't give a flying fuck if the "fanbase" reviles Legion Lost or not. The fanbase is a broken mess regardless of that fact.

The downright hilariousness of the fandom as a whole is that is will always be made up of bickering tribes and that every new iteration of a property is going to fracture it even more. Yet the powers that be at both Marvel and DC believe that inserting more characters or replacing existing ones with new ones will strengthen their brands. Most evidence points to "no" because it just encourage longtime fans to abandon ship and there are not enough new ones to replace them.

The initial Band-Aid didn't cause much problems. The continuity lock-out was entirely started do to the TMK run being so dark and edgy, made worse by Mark Waid (back when he worked as an editor) getting in a pissing match with the Superman editorial by greenlighting a Christmas special story with pre-Crisis Supergirl still in the DC Universe (granted, forgotten) that went against strict editorial edict that Supergirl (at least in her original form) was 100% off-limits. The later cost Waid his position as editor at DC and while everyone involved with V4 deny it, most likely was the catalyst for Superman editorial yanking Superman from the Legion canon.

Holy shit, DC is on a cancel spree:

What the fuck is happening behind the scenes? Doomsday Clock has been delayed well over a full year from its initial finishing date. It was supposed to be a monthly title and it was a 12-issue maxi series, the date for it’s final issue to drop was intended to be on Nov 2018. We are 3 months over that and only on issue 8 in with yet another delay:

not to mention Not-Nightwing killing a gay fan club member that made a pass at him and serving as Garth's mouthpiece for calling gay comic fans a cancer who ruined Dick Grayson for him/other characters by way of projecting their fanon that character x is gay).

Whoa, what comic was this? Dan DiDio really needs to sort out his priorities if some strangers' fanons made him so enraged that he had to shoehorn in a stand-in to attack them specifically.

That the tweet is copyrighted or not, or licensed for other use or not, should be irrelevant since the manner that EVS displays the tweet and provides his own commentary on it should be transformative enough to count as fair use.

Or so I would think, but of course IANAL.

Titans, Damage and Scooby are the only series there. The rest are trade paperbacks. Omnibuses and Absolute collections are hardcover and high priced. There is (was?) a thriving collector's market for prestige format trade paperbacks, but Moore's Swamp Thing and Miller's Dark Knight have been reprinted like a billion times already, so it wouldn't surprise me if oversaturation led to their cancellation. Batgirl of Burnside was the SJW run of Batgirl that flopped a few years ago, which makes me wonder why they'd try to put that run in an omnibus in the first place. In any case, I wouldn't read too much into their cancellations.

Can't say much about the delay of Doomsday Clock except "good." Issue #8 was a bit of a misstep, so hopefully GJ is taking another crack at the story to fix some of its glaring problems. (though I suspect it was delayed because DC wants a little more time to connect current DC continuity with Doomsday Clock continuity before they merge the two)

Anyone else a bit concerned about Zack's recent choice of review material? I can understand wanting to diversify his channel audience, but this might not be the way to go about it.

(Sorry. Long day at work today and shitposting is good for unwinding sometimes.)

I stopped in Books-A-Million just tonight to see half of the DC books on the clearance rack, most for under $10. I think trades just aren’t moving the way they used to, especially expensive hardcover crap.

Doug talks with the Drunken Peasants. Doug also explains why his hair is pink, it was a bet. He lost another bet and is going to paint his beard blue:

The thing about the neon hair dye look is I could see it work under special circumstances, like if someone spiked their hair to be wavy and dyed it to look like flames.

But no, all that ever happens with neon hair dye is ratty faded hair dye & nonsensical color choices that give point and laugh rights to juggalos & furries.

1. Doomsday Clock #8 was good because A. It FINALLY brought Superman into the narrative, and B. Advanced the "Superman theory" plotline at long last after several issues of meandering and filler.

2. Alan Moore's ST run has only been reprinted TWICE (the first run, which had a decade long gap between V2 and V3) and it's been one of the most heavily requested runs fans have clamored for in the Absolute format.

Also, the Absolute version was supposed to have brand new coloring (ala the Sandman and Simonson Thor omnibuses), which added an extra level of fan interest towards how that would turn out.

Luckily, it's looking like SOME of the Titans stuff will still get released in softcover: The first fourth of the omnibus will be getting a normal TPB printing this spring, which makes me wonder if they decided to hold off until the softcover TPBs for the fourth omnibus comes out before it to maximize sales.

That could very well be the case. I get the distinct impression that Geoff Johns started work on Doomsday Clock well before Bendis jumped ship to DC and fucked Jon Kent up. (Seriously? Was there point to aging him up to a teenager when Conner Kent returned in Young Justice?) Then there is Gary Frank, who I would describe as more "methodical" as an artist.

I also liked it because how it made Firestorm more integral to the narrative, though I guess it was a given since Typhoon was one of the government-made metas. One thing I wonder about is if John Ostrander's run on Firestorm inspired GJ's decision for the character to go rogue. To make a long story short: Martin Stein was dying of an inoperable brain tumor so he and Ronnie agreed to have Firestorm force the United States and Soviet Union to disarm their nuclear arsenals. This brought Firestorm into conflict with both governments, the Justice League, and Suicide Squad. The Soviets sent Pozhar after him in the Nevada desert while the US launches a nuclear weapon at both, which created a new Firestorm from Ronnie and Pozhar.

Given Johns' knowledge of DC, it would surprise me if that storyline inspired him to use Firestorm that way.

I was looking at the insane Alex Jones'ish false flag claims on Simeti's swatting, but Richard Pace might take the cake. He wants Alterna (a company that Simeti owns) to make a statement before he'll believe Simeti himself. Wut??? What kind of logic is that?

Peter actually controls the AlternaComics twitter account too. So all he has to do is retweet himself from his “company” account & it’s the same thing. Statements by Peter are statements from the company. Pace is such a clown.

Peter put up an official Alterna video about what happened:

Sadly, I feel like the things Peter said were kind of naive. Getting a PO Box and changing up live stream times isn't gonna do shit.

EDIT TO AVOID DOUBLE POST:
First Comicsgate-adjacent suicide coming soon?

That’s sad and scary who is this? I don’t remember the name coming up anywhere?

Also, I received Jawbreakers Lost Souls in the mail. Haven’t had time to read it yet. But just flipping through the Art is nicely eye catching. With a good feeling of depth and movement. And seems to avoid the pinks and pastel colors of modern Marvel as well as that flat static 2 dimensional look that has become their sad hallmark.

Who's Propst?

He is an older school artist did some decent stuff for Marvel and DC. Alpha Flight, JLA, Action Comics etc.
