Are CRTs based and redpilled?

CRTs are insanely overpriced these days (the good ones). I'm still waiting for the Checkmate LCDs next batch, and until then my low latency (2ms) 1080p panel does just fine. MiSTerFPGA has great scanline filters, because at this point, I've put all my retro hardware (consoles, 8/16 bit pcs, etc) in dry storage since I know one day they're gonna be worth a fortune (and all that shit takes up a ton of room).

That guy has done amazing work, I was fully expecting his Kickstarter for that Amiga desktop case to end up like most (i.e. just fucking off with the money) but I was pleasantly surprised.

Not sure about hoarding old electronics long term for the money, too many points of failure and custom silicon like others have mentioned here. I do it because I have problems and enjoy it but am reluctantly at peace with the idea that it'll all be beyond economic repair one day (that said if you're into consoles, aside from Fujitsu DRAM I've had way better luck with Japanese sand lasting beyond all odds).

You guys listen to music on wax cylinders too?
When all TVs have become 'smart', they are the less effective method of viewing media. You can plug in a crt, put things into it's inputs, and they just display. There's no android phone slapped on top with proprietary data grabbing software and menus you need to crawl through.

I am on the fence of selling my extra CRTs and just keep one, I have a 19" Trinitron, a 19" Vega and a 27" Tantus. What would be the better one to keep out of the 3?

The Trinitron has stereo sound and a curved screen
The Vega has component, 2 analog inputs and a home theater output
The Tantus has component, S-Video and 2 analog inputs, on top of having PiP mode.

All of the 3 work no problems and they have good image quality, they even have their original remote.

It seems like the Samsung is the winner, but I am unsure if the extra bulkiness is worth the extra weight.

Sound like a PC monitor to me.
Monitors are usually only of sizes to fit on a decent desk, with anything larger getting exorbitantly expensive. TVs are still the option for sitting far away from a screen, other than projectors, but those are also getting infested with this gay bloat designed to spam marketing material at you and track you.

Which even then, you'd need a pretty big desk with the shit that's coming out these days if you don't want to strain your eyes

According to Google (I know, but still) 43 inch seems to be the tip-off to where you can find something relatively "normal"

Anything bigger, like 49 inches, and you wind up getting results like this:

Screens that are super stretched and have a bent that looks like it's wrapping around... just what everyone wants! /sarcasm

really depends on your space, 19" starts to look a little small if you're across the room sitting on a couch.

not that I imagine anyone here's hooked on the RGB meme but the curved trinitron is a likely candidate for an RGB input mod, parts are cheap and it's simple enough even the 8bit guy could figure it out, so it can sometimes be worthwhile on a set without component in.

I still keep a small crt biz class monitor around on the off chance someone asks me to fix some ancient computer, but that's about it. I was going to keep my old Toshiba 32 around, but since I emulate retro games and am only holding on to my old consoles for nostalgia and possibly future price increase, I let that thing go to goodwill, even though it was a great tv for many years. If you buy a decent newer tv, you won't have many real issues for a while too. Just make sure to get one that lets you use it as a straight monitor, streaming services suck, you can just hook up something like a shield or a cheap mini pc if all you want is media, and block most of the bane of streaming, which is unskipable ads. Only a particular type of hardware autist wants all the cons of crt in 2024+, imo.

I've amassed a bunch of random CRTs over the years, majority of them for free:
  • A cheap Magnavox that I use mostly due to it being the only CRT that has noticeable scanlines and doesn't lock me out of picture settings on component (90s - 2000s, got for free.)
  • A Samsung Dynaflat that would look better than aforementioned Magnavox if it didn't default to 100 sharpness on component with no non-service menu way to change it (2005, $20 circa 2016.)
  • A Mickey Mouse TV that I want to try out the Component mod on, as its damn near useless currently due to it only accepting coax in, requiring a VCR to display anything on it (free off the side of the road.)
  • A giant Samsung SlimFit, really fine slot mask plus HDMI input makes it have almost no scanlines from a distance, holds up really well to modern TVs (2006, free.)
  • A cheap Polaroid TV with a broken built in DVD player, have it sitting around with no idea what to do with it (2000s, free.)
  • A tiny black and white portable TV I got for shits n giggles ($5)
I prefer CRT displays to LCDs due to how nice they make everything look. plus muh nostalgia
A few years ago I missed out on a Sony FW900 and whenever I am reminded of that I want to blow up the entire planet
You think that's bad, a relative of mine's old job was replacing their old security system with new LCDs, and had a pallet of Sony BVM's sitting around. The heads told a bunch of people who were interested that if the company they got equipment from was fine with it, they'll be free for anyone who wanted one.
Suffice to say, the company wasn't fine with it :'(
I have a small CRT for playing the old GTA games but staring at the screen gives me headaches. I have really shitty eyes though
Ironically the opposite for me. LCDs mess with my eyes way worse than CRTs.

I have quite a few CRTs that I bought brand new, old stock. There was a while where these were get-able for reasonable money.

The main ones I use are a basic 13 inch basic slot mask TV on a desk for old console games and a basic 17 inch VGA monitor for vintage PCs.

I still keep an eye out for more to trash pick but IMO the condition matters way more than specs, you can't beat low hours.

In the end, I found a way to keep all 3. That info will become handy later on, thank you fellow CRT enjoyer.

Where the fuck can I find a CRT monitor?
Local recycling centers and searching "old tv" on the "free" section on Craigslist/Letgo/FB Marketplace will probably be your best bets. Obviously they're being sold for yuge prices locally and on eBay but even if you're having one hell of a midlife crisis they aren't worth paying a ton of money for.

yeah, if I really wanted, I would treat myself to some cutting edge vr goggles instead. The immersive experience beats any slightly worse motion clarity in the good headsets and even then there isn't much to experience in regards to immersive, worthwhile gaymeslob, if any, really.
CRT was only interesting for the better gayme immersion in the first place. Color and contrast are better on modern oleds for a while now.
