This shit is really no different than the "D&D will make you worship Satan" hysteria from the 80s. The only difference is which side is doing the pearl clutching (SJWs, hipsters, and folks who don't understand internet culture), the supposed gateway (shitposting on the internet), and the endpoint of said gateway (Nazism). Throw in a bit of repurposed 50s-style Red Scare ("the Nazis are infiltrating our government!") and you've got the mélange from which people like Dan Olson draw from.

It's hard to pinpoint exactly what drives this mindset, but my personal theory is that they can't stand seeing these shitposters having fun and living what they see as happy, fulfilling, successful lives, and want to put an end to this in order to drag people down to their miserable level. So they use loaded language to poison the well and shame their opponents into giving up their blissful behavior so they'll feel better that everyone else is as miserable as they are.

So what Dan's saying here is that a show that planned to go on for six seasons benefited from a hastily written final season, and he's acting smug about his views towards a period of the show fans generally like as much as any other part.

I remember watching a lot of his older videos and liking them a lot- part of it was an SJW phase, but part of it was because his videos were passionate about exploring the subtext of art, and much of them were focused on music I had never heard of. Of course, that analytical nature led pretty easily to his obsessive identity politics now. His videos were fine- it's seeing the man himself that ruined them. But the usual narcissism of these people leads to them putting more and more of themselves in their work, so it is increasingly indistinguishable. He ended a video on Triumph of the Will by saying that when you watch the movie, you are watching the Nazis as they wanted you to see them, followed by a cut to black as though he dropped 10,000 mikes, instead of reiterating exactly what everyone describes the movie as. These people lost the ability to self- reflect the minute they saw themselves as revolutionaries fighting the barbarian hordes.

I fully expect to read any day now a treatise by an SJW that argues that since people in third world countries aren't having fun and those people tend to be brown, having fun is white supremacy. I'm sure they could shoehorn in patriarchy too if they were willing.
