Here's what I got from the video. He's blaming the titles of the videos for demonetization rather than his commentary.

I think the most telling thing for him is a lot of his old videos are getting flagged. If for some reason his old videos are a large source of revenue he might be in trouble.
There was a guy who use to do Phil's stats and it was like 70% of his views would come from videos over 30 days old. It makes sense because nobody has time to watch 4-6 hours of gameplay everyday so the few actually watching him on Youtube will always be playing catch up.

He is not really panicking about this like he would have a year ago because he has moved his eggs into the Twitch basket. Leave it to Dsp to trade in the inconsistent revenue of Youtube for the even greater risk of Twitch.

Phil needs to get back on the gin ASAP. As someone else pointed out, the TIHYDPs are suffering due to his boring as fuck commentary. It's the only way I can really digest Phil's content. The fighting games and multiplayer stuff sometimes brings out some of that classic manbaby bitch attitude, but it's wedged between all the begging and self pity. When he was on the booze he really let loose all the rage and the cringe. Now he's gotta act DSProfessional because he's a "mature, intelligent, logical adult". Feels like we're diving for the little corn nuggets in a giant ocean of shit.
Was he ever actually drunk during a gameplay? I 'm Pretty sure I've never seen him like that

You know what would really get him views? fly out John Rambo for some co op. Make up with John, promise him some revenue and do some Co op streams. The views and attention on that stream would be astronomical. Phil is too petty though he will never do that.

Beyond being too petty to make up with him, do you remember Phil's childish reaction when people said that John Rambo was the best thing (or only good thing) about Project 7? He'd never let Rambo upstage him again, or be the perceived cause of his business improving.

It's also great because he never seems to try and make his own interaction. Interaction is really just another way of saying engagement, but it's vitally important to increasing viewer interest.

He doesn't read his twitch chat whatsoever
He doesn't engage with his subscribers
He doesn't do any real competitions (and no, that doesn't mean he has to send out gold bars in the mail to people, he could just have an award for someone who beats him at some game, or they get a free shoutout, or their name on the stream for a week)
He doesn't invite people to challenge him in games.
He doesn't play any multiplayer games publicly (except streetfighter which doesn't count)
He doesn't play multiplayer with voice (except Destiny 2 recently with his coop buddies, but that's a poor example)

He generally plays single player games. By himself.

Most people seem to join for his prestream, hoping to catch some :autism:, and then when he actually plays games people tune out.

I'm not ever sure how boring someone has to be to have a boring time on the internet. It's an open box of adventure and excitement (as much as can be provided in the comfort of your own home), but Phil doesn't seem to understand the real nature of it.

He's pretty much a good go-to example of explaining what being too comfortable in your comfort zone is. You can even time his streams down to a tee. I haven't yet witnessed him just turn on his stream out of schedule and say "hey I'm gonna play this random game for fun!".

When you fail to interact with your audience, then you can only really expect minimal engagement.

Phil, Phil never changes.

Yeah, the contrast between what Phil does and what, let's, quill18 does, is flabbergasting. quill18 reacts to people yelling "Petra!" at him on chat whiule playing Civilization, even if he gets mildly annoyed by it, and in response, his chat tends up to bring the Petra meme in funny, creative ways (like when he was playing as Poland and India ended up building the Petra wonder, so he just steamrolled over India and someone said, "Quill just contracted the Petra job with Indian engineers"; that ended up becoming his go-to answer for people asking for wonders in his following playthroughs).

Also keep in mind that Quill18 gets a ton of view/money for playing mostly sim games and 4X/Grand Strategy games, genders that have a very niche audience. Even so, as I look through his more recent videos on Youtube, I see that most of them get at least 5k views, a dozen or so got 20k+ views, and his latest Cities Skylines video even got 128k views. Not bad for such a niche audience. The difference it does, when you actually have charisma and engagement to your audience!

"I'm just going to move forward positively" he says, slack-jawed, his face a mask of sadness and shame.
His next Instagram selfie will reflect precisely what you illustrate.
The few times DSP has attempted a smile, his eyes cannot deceive that he has given his scourged soul over to eventual bankruptcy by his own choices, the loss of love by his own selfishness, and his shattered reputation by his own wanking.
We're due for another example any day now.

i really just think he's getting old and learning that his job is essentially to imitate himself as a younger man.

He does, but only when he needs his hand held or can't figure out something children could figure out. But otherwise yeah, his chat and subs might as well not be anything other than an ATM to him.

TBF, TIHYDPs being worse isn't just necessarily because of SOK, it's the editing style of each TIHYDP maker. Some prefer memes and a lot of editing (Doom 3) and others prefer less so (GTA SA)

Another thing I want to add is that there are 3 reasons why his modern playthroughs don't yield for amazing TIHYDPs as they used to:
1) his commentary being a lot more boring than it used to, lot more silences and far less cringeworthy jokes.
2) stream chat babysitting him, although it does have it's limits (refer to any fighting game or any skill based game) it still prevents moments like BUGGED JUMPING MECHANIC from occurring or just being stuck at the easiest of puzzles like in Portal 1. Even if he didn't use stream chat, he'd just use strategy guides (Banjo Kazooie for example)
3) games nowadays just being a lot easier in general, notice that DSP struggles when a game is just somewhat challenging like Scarface, or recently Sonic Adventure 2's ending. I would argue this last reason being the key one as to why his playthroughs aren't as unintentionally hilarious as they used to (barring exceptions here and there, obviously)
While I agree, more often then not these days people don't cut the shit out. While pretty great, the Tekken 7 TIHYDP was suffering from it. The single player part was on point but did it really need 2 and a half our of DSP just getting fucked over in multiplayer? After a while it gets stale, he said the same shit over and over. For me a TIHYDP is a showing/compilation of the best (his worst) moments during a playthrough and just him losing over and over again without any of the fights having anything to differentiate one from another just gets boring after a while.

Feel free to disagree since we all have our own opinion. I don't think most of them are poorly made, just that they lack focus. Anyway, we all have our reasons to watch TIHYDPs and every one I stumble accross is overly long for no good reason nowadays.

His old videos are his source of revenue. His new videos draw dick In views compared to his old shit; his Destiny 2 day 1 video got a measly 1000 views and the rest were even more pathetic. That's why he is always looking for reasons to quit games and why he blames the games themselves for his predicament. Not his attitude and viewpoint of his audience... Nah that's not it.
To further this, some of you may remember I would tweet daily screencaps of DSPGaming & KOGaming/TKOHV views. Since I'm not daily tweeting any more, I stopped but I'm still taking those caps since you can't just go back and check the views on a random day, plus it only takes a couple minutes.

My point is take a look at how badly the most recent set of Destiny 2 videos have done. sub500 average is a norm these days, sub1K is good and breaking 1K average generally requires a premiere & probably 2 days. These Destiny 2 videos are STILL sub250 after '2 days'.

I tried watching his stream with FC and it was boring as fuck. Barely any commentary, he couldn't aim for shit, kept dying for the stupidest reasons, etc. It just wasn't fun to watch. It might be the worst content I've seen from him in a while, no wonder the views are worst than usual.
The kids he was playing with were more entertaining than him, let that sink in for a bit.

this! its not like he isn't still a manbaby asshole, he still is he just hides it in his commentary. The new PC phil is boring.

Yeah the John co-op games seemed to be the most decent out of all his playthroughs because his attitude is better. With John there he was more willing to just laugh off his mistakes and not bitch about the game, especially since they played quite a few of Nintendo games which he just hates now. Even Phil's attitude is improved when he's just having fun with a friend as opposed to slogging through games he doesn't really want to play just for money.

Of course he won't make up with him because DSP is always right, no John and Howard are in the wrong for making that video talking about him. If he didn't realize he was a dick to his friends after the breakup (since after he moved he acted like he didn't need friends because he had a serious adult house and a full time girlfriend now) then he isn't going to any time soon.

In my opinion the only reason start/end videos (i.e. the first part/last part he uploads in a session) get more views is because its the most obvious place to leave a comment.

Speaking of comments, I'm going to be interested to see how disabling them affects his views on YouTube. It's easy to point and say he'll do worse, but it's going to be interesting to see.

The thing about comments that still gets my gout, is that even though a lot of them are from "da trolls" and "da haters" there are a decent number which ask legitimate questions.

Answering these (even if they reply with some dumb "troll" shit later) is vitally important to any YouTuber. It's something Phil can do while he's on the toilet, and it takes 10-15 minutes of his entire day to just reply to a handful of these and say something like:
  • "Hey! Thanks for the comment. I'll have a look at that game, it sounds like it might be fun!"
  • "Hey. Yes, I'm continuing with this game, I'm hoping to resume it in the next 2-3 days because some new releases have come up. Thanks for watching"
  • "Thanks for the comment, glad you're enjoying it"
  • "Hey, I don't usually play PC but I've been considering doing a day of PC games at some point in the future"
Phil tries to give the impression that he "ignores da haters" but realistically he ignores everyone because of them. It doesn't take much to step outside his hugbox and just say hi to some of his viewers.

The number of legit people in his Twitch chat who actually ask interesting questions, or ask small questions about his schedule ("when are you playing xyz game next?") is quite significant, but Phil rarely ever answers them. I guess he doesn't see that it benefits him instantly, in which case he can't be fucked.

And no Phil, someone asking about games you're currently playing, what you're playing next and if you're going to get whatever game in the future are not the kind of questions that should ever be exclusive to people who tip or cheer you. These are questions that actually bring viewers to your stream.

He just bitches that he already COVERED that in his week in preview or on Twitter OKAY are kids these days just too lazy to go find out info for THEMSELVES??

My favorite part about the blow up between DSP & friends was that Phil had the audacity to make a video bitching about John and Howard saying their side of the story(and they kept their cool about it too) when he started it by making a video throwing them under the bus for the failure of project7 and his problems and reading personal texts from John out loud to his viewers.

The best part was, even after all of that, they still tried to make up with him but Phil wasn't having it.

That's another thing that absolutely blows my mind.

In Phil's world:
  • Everyone lives and operates within his timezone
  • No one is as busy as he is
  • Everyone keeps up to date with the down to the minute status of his Twitter, Twitch, Patreon, YouTube and his vlogs.
Is it really that hard to just comment with something like:
"Thanks for the comment. I keep my current schedule of games pinned on my Twitter account. Here's a link:"

And no, no one expects anyone to answer every fucking YouTube comment that they get on their channel or videos (that might be an option with :autism: though). But would it really kill him to spend 5 minutes a day just commenting to a few?

Too much work.

Phil, Phil never changes.
