I'm really amused by the Mario Sunshine whining because DSP's been an idiot: he CAN'T capture Mario Sunshine & thus he will dump it from the Patrons' Choice. He clearly did no research into making the poll & just added everything with 3+ nominations (plus apparently shoved in Night in the Woods on his own whims with only 2 nominations?).
Since Super Mario Sunshine was only on GameCube, there are four ways to play it:
- GameCube. DSP doesn't have a GameCube.
- Wii. This would work, except the Wii doesn't have HDMI out, DSP doesn't have any composite or component to HDMI adaptors, and he admits his last component capture device broke or was gotten rid of. This was a bad idea because he could have used this for PS3 stuff too and avoided all the HDCP complications (e.g. Final Fantasy X 'the video went out!')
- WiiU. Unofficially you can hack the vWii side & run GameCube ISOs from USB or SD storage. DSP is not going to do this.
- PC emulation via Dolphin. Sunshine apparently runs great on Dolphin, but DSP's incompetent recording setup means the fairly intensive emulation will not record smoothly.
No, there have been no WiiU 'Virtual Console' GameCube releases. Metroid Prime 1 in 2015 he played via the WiiU digital download of the Wii Metroid Prime Trilogy collection. So all this whining was for naught and it's likely too late to change the poll & have all the Sunshine voters pick something else. This weekend statement will likely be in the Week in Preview & he'll announce he can play it for January downtime, only to fuck himself over then too. Heaven forbid he spends $100 or less on a component capture device.
Also regarding views, I can't believe all up to 2 million (DSPGaming hasn't even had 2 million views since June when you add back the privated Persona 5 views it's ~2.02mn, July 1.92mn August 1.85mn) views are monetized. This also makes me suspect DSP's hints at how much YT income he gets, since July's Twitch income was under yet August's Twitch income was higher than YT implies he gets over $3K but likely not even $3.5K/month for July & August YT ad revenue. So for August's 1.85mn to be all monetized views and to come to ~$3.5K would mean a CPM of almost $1.90. I thought since adpocalypse $1 CPM was high, and DSP's CPM would have to be higher when they're not all monetized... he's easily getting $2+ CPM not including Curse or Google's cut? I highly doubt it.
Also taking a look at the current SocialBlade numbers for September, 13 days are in so far:
Quickly adding that up totals 646,181 views in 13 days, or a ~49.7K daily average (hurt badly by that latest 44K & a couple sub 50K days) which multiplies out for a 30 day September month to a pitiful ~1.49mn views, way down on August's 1.85mn - 20% down in fact. DSP better hope match spam for MvCI and the Patrons' Choice playthrough do well, because this is looking terrible. This would become his worst month ever, with February 2017 being the previous worst at 1.63mn.
