No 16 year old should be put in charge of 4 younger siblings for anything more than a standard parents' night out. A 16 year old doesn't even have full driving privileges in Minnesota. If one of the kids had a medical emergency in the middle of the night, the 16 year old may not legally be able to even drive them to the hospital. Is the kid supposed to leave the other 3 kids alone if there is an emergency? What happens with schooling and all the other children's activities? Is the 16 year old in charge of providing 3 proper meals a day for four children? Ordering pizza on a parent's night out is one thing; breakfast, lunch, and dinner for multiple days is different. Is the 16 year old responsible for making sure all the children are consistently bathed and dressed in clean clothes? What if the children have medical needs that have to be complied with?

And how is it fair to the eldest to dump on him the parenting of his younger siblings? Is he being paid? Doesn't he have his own life that he should be experiencing? What type of mental issues are being put on this growing child by his parents foisting their parenting duties on him? A good parent would be worried about these things too, because they should also recognize it's unfair and improper to make a 16 year old their parenting proxy.
