If it’s a criminal trial (which it looks like it is), then the defendant has a right to a jury trial unless he specifically waived that right. Usually that happens as part of accepting a plea deal, but as long as the state insists on prosecuting it is a jury trial by default.
As always, it's hard to tell if this is a win for Dax because he thinks Eric July will finally be exposed for the conman he is or because he wants to laugh at Riley getting buck broken by the justice system. He's probably happy either way tbh.

If you're facing incarceration (federally six months) you have the absolute right to a jury trial, and you often have the right even when facing lesser penalties. That's fundamental.
No, that has absolutely zippo to do with it. It means the defendant requested it and has an absolute, fundamental right to it.
It's not a lawsuit, it's a criminal trial.
It's up to the defendant, who can opt for a bench trial.
Eric July only has to take the stand if they specifically request him. He has no reason not to, though. If I were July, I'd show up because there's absolutely nothing embarrassing to him about any of these events.
