Do you recommend playing the original, then the remake?
No that's a waste of time, unless you're someone who is personally interested in the art of adaption. The ogs pc port in kinda funky and you have to fix it yourself. The remakes is pretty true to the original but if you are extra sensitive cultural war kinda talking points then you might have some issues, otherwise the story beats are the same.

I recommend both. The OG Dead Space has a specific charm to it. I've just started the remake, and it's good, but something about the original Dead Space is still haunting, like a ghost in the machine, that this one hasn't conveyed yet.

They’re pretty similar so unless you really wanna play both I’d just say play one of them. From a gameplay standpoint, the remake is better and also has better flying compared to the original which had the weird jumping in zero gravity. Graphically it’s better, but the faces are awful and the original characters look far better. There’s also the woke bullshit which your enjoyment will depend on how much you can tolerate it.
 
I'm replaying both at the same time and they're great games, my biggest issue with the remake is the poor optimisation, any woke shit is barely noticeable although several story moments are alot worse than the og, e.g. Hammonds death, Kyne, the black kween on the crew that has 2 lines of dialogue before she explodes, this one may be subjective but I preferred Mercer in the original.

My biggest issue with the remake is the performance and stuttering. Aside from that, I only dislike the tranny bathrooms (there's a hanging corpse on one lol), Hammond's death, and blackwashing one of the Kellion crewmates (even though she almost immediately explodes and her afro stays perfect lmao). Even though the rest of the game is alright, I still replay the OG from time to time, like pointed out above, it's got a certain feeling that the remake doesn't capture.

So EA responded and said Jeff Grubb’s claims are false. So either it wasn’t in development at all, it’s being postponed so Motive can work on battlefield and Ironman, or it’s in active development. Or there is the chance it really was cancelled, but then why respond at all?

This is basically it right here. The remake cost who knows how many tens of millions to make and market. And accomplished nothing and was ultimately not as good as the original. It was also released right alongside Callisto Protocol which had "From the Creator of Dead Space" as its main marketing point. And released right next to Resident Evil 4 Remake. Horror games (and movies) are a niche genre. Doing a full engine rebuild of the first game was monumentally dumb. Releasing it during the window of two other major horror games was idiotic.

A simple remaster trilogy of the main series would have likely cost under one-third or one-quarter of the remake. And given everyone the entire franchise essentially on modern consoles and PCs. Three games, plus the extras and DLC, for the price of one. Then you see about making a fourth with a low budget just to properly conclude the series.

I know the fans of the series were elated when the remake was announced. But any objective look at the business rationale behind a full remake from scratch versus a simple remaster would have shown some truly bizarre decision making at EA.

I was always interested but I just didn't want to spend the extra 70. I suspect that and the next gen only element killed it sadly.

Yeah I doubt they’ll make it with how shit the remake of the first game sold, but it’s certainly not outside the realm of possibility. Now this will be quite a hit on Jeff Grubb’s credibility as he claimed the remake was in development at one point, which it never was.
 
Dead Space 2 doesn't need a remake, the game still plays fine. What EA needs to do is get off their lazy asses and actually put the Dead Space 2 DLC on pc already. Yes, I'm still mad about this
Dead Space 2 really needs a co-op horde mode instead of whatever unbalanced cheater infested travesty that PVP only multiplayer was. Motive clearly understood the art direction visceral had and updated the first game's look to match DS2's Engineering rig.

Bought the remake on sale. Its fun and I'm glad they don't lock impossible difficulty behind a NG+ run anymore. It plays like a more balanced Zealot difficulty from DS2 except they polished out the jank instakill mechanics and that made things infinitely more fair than completing the original on impossible. Though I find the "security clearance" mechanic to be asinine.

Its also weird that USM valor necromorphs were showing up on the ishimura well before I sent out the distress beacon on chapter 7 instead of the armored miner necromorphs that the original had on the mining deck.

I wonder how that could work since the game is all about having very limited ammo.

You just kill necromorphs and they drop ammo like in every dead space game or since its titan security/earthgov, have resupply stations. Would make Operation Outbreak feel a lot more like a part of the main story that it was rather than some obscure side story.

Beating Impossible for the remake was fun but the challenge to it dissipated by chapter 3 as soon as I got enough nodes for my rig and plasma cutter.

Its also weird how the twitcher necromorphs in the remake do wear an earlier version of the remake's marine armor more faithful to the original games but all the human npcs and isaac wear something that resembles spawn's outfit. That must have been some autistic last minute decision by EA or an oversight.

I've installed the remake earlier. The micro stutters are a pain in the ass.
I have looked around and apparently people say that you have to limit the framerate to 60? WTF?! The original didn't have that issue.

I played the pvp multiplayer extensively at the time and the sad thing was it wasn't even really the cheating that fucked it up. The level up system was absolutely broken. It honestly was a pretty fun mode when the connection wasn't shit and when everyone was on the same lvl.

The issue is a level 60 soldier has considerably more heath and stronger weapons then a level 1 necromorph. Even if you grabbed him you'd need practically the entire team to coordinate and kill him. Now imagine that but everyone on the team.
