Dead Space Thread

But wasn't that because of EA pressuring the devs to make a more action oriented game to compete with the big shooters?
EA wanted the series to go from Alien to Aliens. Where you are now in a corridor shooter and not some isolated horror game. They also wanted a little bit more of an upbeat story and ending. Whereas the first writers were setting up for the Brethren Moons to consume Earth. And that Isaac's ending would basically be him witnessing Earth becoming a Brethren Moon or infected and having nowhere to go in a now completely 'dead' space. And that the Necromorphs were unstoppable the entire time.

One of the rumored endings was that Isaac Clarke would go insane from the Marker, and hallucinate himself saving Earth, but in reality he was actually crashing the Brethren Moon right into the planet. And that your last level in the game would be from his perspective after he's completely lost his mind. And the final moments would be him imagining himself as this heroin savior when in reality everyone is dead. Kind of like how fans wanted that Indoctrination storyline from Mass Effect that never materialized.

But EA had another team of writers who basically rebooted the series at Dead Space 3 (and some argue at Dead Space 2). And they wanted to remove Isaac from being the lead and introduce a new female protagonist (like Gordon to Alyx in Half Life). This female protagonist Ellie would be the playable character in an open world game of Dead Space 4. Where you are in a ship graveyard floating in space and must build yourself a working planet cracker to destroy the Brethren Moons threatening Earth. And the ending would also have her discovering everything about the Necromorphs, Markers, and Brethren Moons including their origins and purposes. They supposedly had a team of writers to answer all of those mysteries to the player.

It had to be her and not Isaac though?

Fucking Current Year shit needs to die already.

Yes. Isaac was supposed to be the protagonist for Dead Space 4 but EA and the new writers rejected it. The team then threw together what they had for the last Dead Space 3 DLC which was Awakened. Which had a story closer to the original writing team's ideas of Isaac leading the Moons to Earth and killing humanity. They left the ending ambiguous as to whether or not it was all a hallucination. So that if another team made Dead Space 4 they could retcon pretty much anything that they wanted.

But the 'canon' ending is that Earth is now 'dead space'. The chapters of the final Dead Space DLC spell out "R.I.P." as well. An underrated series for sure. But EA and the new writing team that replaced the original team basically ruined the actual vision of the creative team that made the first one.

Yeah, but Dead Space 4 sounded awesome, with the protag kludging together a planet cracker out of wrecks to save mankind. Just needs to be Isaac and not Ellie.
