Dead video game series/franchises you refuse to let go

Snowboard Kids, a delightfully nutty snowboarding game series that was somewhat successful around the turn of the millennium.

Unfortunately, it was produced by Fatlus, and Fatlus fucking hates everything that is not generic weebshit. They canned the entire thing after a couple of games, even though they were relative critical and financial hits. Then they made a third game for the DS, retooling it into absolutely unremarkable animu garbage, and were surprised when it tanked. We haven't heard from the franchise ever since then, and considering it's been more than 15 years, it's probably dead and buried.

But I still hold out hope.

I just got it on GOG and it doesn't have that problem either. Seems to me that Steam users are just fucked.
I played the Steam version a while ago and had no such issues. If too high framerates cause the scripts to fail, you can always just cap them yourself.

It felt weird playing the game, really enjoying it, but also knowing that EA already murdered the franchise and it will never come back *sigh*

The steam version of Dead space has a glitch where you have to turn Vsync off to get a playable frame rate. But if you turn it off the scripts don't work on some doors so the game soft locks as soon as you get the done. EA fixed it in the origin version but steams borked.
Man, I don't remember this, but I didn't play all the way through either, having already finished the game on PS3 (where it was much more scary, imo).

I remember renting the 2nd game as a kid. Been a long ass time, but I recall it being fun.

Darkstalkers, it was so god damn unique and creative compared to somewhat generic stuff with other fighting games and its lore had great potential.

I still live in denial that The Darkness 2 ended in a cliffhanger that is unlikely to ever be solved.

Im not sure if its dead, Sony could surprise us but I could add Infamous on that list too. Its been a while since Second Son and the series has been dormant since.

Dead Rising was the tits...until 3 and then, urgh, 4 happened...I miss the fun I had with 1 and 2.

Wario Land 5 (or is it 6? The Wii one wasnt numbered), still hoping we get to see Wario back in his roots...I like Wario Ware but I just want him back at the treasure hunter gig.

The less I talk about F-Zero the better.

Part of me wishes we got another Duke Nukem game that would be the apology letter for Forever but maybe its best if the Dukester remains dormant in today's cultural enviroment.

These are all I have for now, I suppose

Last Window: The Secret of Cape West needs a sequel, they were building up to something big. Company went out of business but Nintendo seems to own the rights.

Star Fox Adventures needs a sequel, obviously not happening, maybe due to Rare or something (it sold well and got good reviews).

Also, I'll just cram a bunch of JRPG pipedreams here:

Super Mario RPG 2 Chrono Break
Mother 4
Golden Sun 4
Final Fantasy X-3
Legend of Dragoon 2
Lost Odyssey 2
Threads of Fate 2
Final Fantasy Tactics 2
Mega Man Battle Network 7
Mega Man Star Force 4 Parasite Eve 3
Dragon Quest Monsters 3
Monster Rancher Battle Card Game 2
Lost Kingdoms 3

It's been twenty years since the last entry and the company holding the rights doesn't make games anymore, but I still hold a little hope for FreeSpace 3. At least 2 is open source.

With sega bringing a new panzer dragoon out, I'm hoping they revive some other franchises from that era like clockwork knight, bug!, ristar, Dragon force. Loved those games.
Whoa, really? I am a massive nerd for the Panzer Dragoon games. I held out no hope for a revival after all this time, so that's awesome news to me. I hope it will retain the RPG style of Saga with freestyle flight and combat. I gotta look into this now. Glad you mentioned it!

I wouldn't mind another entry into the 'classic style' Shining Force games either, or a follow-up to Shining the Holy Ark. With Force being run into the ground with all the offshoots and mainline Shining games never being much of a money earner past the Genesis original, I don't see either happening, sadly.

It's only a remake of the first sadly and I believe theres a remake of zwei in the works too.

I'm sure sega brought a few out on the ps2 and the sales were that bad it effectively killed the franchise. I do wish they'd make more use of their IPs.

Maximo, Darkstalkers, Cyberbots, Red Earth, Megaman spin-offs and half of the franchises Capcom abandoned in favor of milking RE and SF, as only those two made them any money, allegedly.

I also miss Twisted Metal. You'd think it would make a comeback with the battle royale fad, as the car combat gameplay was somewhat similar, even though it precedes it.

Ah, damn. That's a shame. A remake of 1 or 2 will look gorgeous of course, and if they sell well there's certainly a chance they may make an actual new Panzer Dragoon game, so here's hoping.

Yes, that's what I ment by of-shoots of Shining Force killing the franchise. The PS2 games were not mainline SF and complete garbage and sold accordingly.

I would bet a Shining Force IV would sell like the proverbial ice-water in hell. Sega may be long dead as a console maker, but you are correct that they are sitting on some absolute potential goldmines of IP.

They're doing quite well with phantasy star aren't they? I'm sure they've got some stuff out at the moment. A game based on their phantasy star model but with a shining lick of paint would be cool.

I think the main issue is every game needs to be overbudgeted (is that even a word) AAA shite. I'd prefer a Sonic mania every couple of years as opposed to shit like Sonic 06 and Sonic Forces. its a cartoon hedgehog fighting some fat arsehole who turned his pals into robots it doesn't need to be some epic story.

just get a small team to make new games on your IPs give them ps2/ps3 era graphics, low risk but probably high reward since there's tons of sega fanboys out there who'd lap it up, myself included, I got a Saturn instead of a playstation because I had a megadrive.

Gain Ground would be a great franchise to bring back, loved the megadrive version, struggling through the ps2 sega ages version on my win max, best warriors from history (zulus, vikings, knights, cyborgs, samurais, nazis) fight through different time periods to beat some supercomputer. Would need to change gameplay on new generation but still a realy cool concept

Fallout. It's been dead after New Vegas. Also Dino Crisis, but apparently it's getting remade.
