The trailer for the new series Dexter: Resurrection is out

I feel like it's going to be half jumping-the-shark half personal drama/tragedy, and it's going to schizophrenicly mix the two, I don't want it to feel like a superhero show or comedy.

Loved the OG show. Thought NB was alright. Personally I wish they just ended it there instead of milking its dead corpse. Original Sin was unwatchable cosplay IMO i have no clue why normies froth at the mouth for retreaded husks of characters.
It's because a lot of people get over-excited trying to spot every foreshadowing of details from the original series, like constantly trying to search for anything that foreshadows Dexter and the Ice Truck Killer interacting or the Trinity Killer ect.

Dexter often fucked up investigations to get cases tossed just so he could murder someone "under the code".
Yeah. That's the entire plot of the show and is literally the code. Dexter is addicted to killing people. If he doesn't kill someone he will lose his mind and risk being arrested or caught. So he sabotages homicide cases to go play vigilante. It's the backbone plot of the show over and over. It's just not explained well. Him deliberately botching a homicide investigation is something that Harry told him was acceptable because it would allow him to get his urges out in a way that doesn't harm innocent people.

By the end of the show they writers kept retconning the code and having no idea what they were doing. The introduction of Dr. Vogel is one of the lowest moments in the entire series. As she effectively retcons Harry's entire plot arc out of nowhere. And changes Dexter's entire behavior as well. Just an incredible stupid character and poor writing. I wouldn't be surprised if none of the new Dexter shows ever mention her.

So far (one episode), Dexter: Resurrection is actually surprisingly good. They might actually pull something (Dexter) good off with this. Give me rainbows, but I Want To Believe.

Hopefully the stuff with Harrison isn't grating, I've read a lot of fans aren't happy with how he acted in New Blood. I liked the second episode more than the first, hopefully it stays a bit gritty and grounded. The serial killer collection stuff is the biggest risky part so far and we haven't had it fully revealed yet.

This is how episode 1 of every season feels. Fingers crossed.

Tell me - do they give us the Angel payoff? I'm more angry about him never making it to Alaska than I am about the S8 ending.

He has a brief conversation with Dexter and Dexter mentions suspecting Angel is preparing slowly to investigate Dexter, and Angel is keeping a close eye on Dexter then Dexter flees to New York City the next day. There is a conversation where Angel is chatting about Dexter disappearing from the hospital but Angel mentions flying back to Miami.

My personal speculation is the seeds are planted to suggest we'll get more stuff of Angel slowly working on the investigation but it's difficult because he's trying to find and investigate a guy in New York while he still works a significant job in the Miami police department.

Dexter got away with killing a black guy, fucking based.
You mean the uber driver? That wasn't Dexter, that was the serial killer he's hunting now. A white guy who is killing immigrants while going on a diatribe of how "things have gone to shit". Also the other immigrants are all super nice , invited him to a party after one conversation, and even gave him a place to stay. Did you get the message, dear viewers? Immigrants are all kind and hard working, and white guys who hate immigrants are evil!

No he's talking about the black cop/coach from New Blood. They basically took most of those big problems from New Blood and said yeah we're not dealing with that, like I'm guessing we're never going to hear about Dexter's cop gf from Ironlake ever again. They were handwaved with a note and two sentences from one of Dexter's cop friends from New Blood lol.

Oh, ok. I skipped New Blood, that minute recap at the beginning of this new season caught me up just fine.

I really enjoyed the first episode and haven’t finished episode 2. But was a bit confused as to why Dexter wasn’t handcuffed to his bed

Did like that Dokes visited him during his coma. Some serious member berries in this episode.

Say about the original Dexter what you want - i think it kind of sucks with all the soap opera stuff and how braindead the police is - but the Soundtrack was pretty great. Season 2 was also pretty great. Lundy was a cool character. They should have ended it after 4 Seasons, everything after that was dismal imo.

How the fuck did Resurrection end up being so fucking good so far.
It hasn't had enough time to fall apart yet, and people enjoyed the nostalgia hallucinations. Once the Angel and Peter Dinklage's collection of killers plots are given more time to grow there is more space for things to get fucked up. Some people are already complaining that the way Dexter fled the hospital makes him sus when the situation doesn't require it for him to survive, instead they could have done a longer conversation with Angel for Dexter to defend himself referncing more stuff from the original series. Presumably the writers either didn't consider those plotholes in Dexter's alibis or they are aware of them and didn't want to fix them so there is more justification for Angel to be chasing down Dexter eventually.

I just finished watching New Blood last week. Aside from some characteristic bad plot points (why are the cops not more alarmed by Dexter showing up to random places based on into only they had?), it was very good. And it should have been the ending.

Oh well. I'll watch Resurrection too *sigh*

I wonder if that moment in episode 3 where Dexter accidentally cuts his wrist is going to come back to haunt him, or if it'll be forgotten about by the writers. Supposedly the show is planned to last for three seasons but it feels like the police are too close to catching Dexter and Harrison. It's like New Blood how Dexter's mistakes kept getting rubbed in his face. They need to give him some space to get away with shit for a few episodes or else it's not going to make sense why he's not in handcuffs from the Miami gang and the new female super-cop at the end of this first season.

I interpreted that as a juxtaposition of his internal monologue where he laments his age and injuries, and how they're a potential hinderance for him being able to hunt serial killers. If there's any chekhov's gun that fucks Dexter over, it's going to be the bag knots. That's a detail of the crime scene he doesn't know about, and if he ties his bags the same way, and the female super-cop sees he does it, he'll become a suspect. Especially after Batista arrives in New York and starts collaborating.

Also: I was wrong about the Uber killer being set up as a RACIST WHITE MAN, he was just angry at ride shares for putting his cabbie father out of business. There was a scene where Harrison and his girlfriend were watching some tranny show, so I have that to gripe about.

I'm starting the third episode of the show now. Honestly, after having just watched the (mostly) solid New Blood, I'm kind of appalled at the number of plot holes:

  • Dexter has regained his real identity... but Angel is after him. So why isn't he using a fake name again? Wouldn't going by his real name make him easier to track?
  • The "Dark Passenger" (ugh) is using a hoodie with infrared lights to make him "invisible" on camera. That's pretty fucking smart. So why isn't Dexter doing it too after hearing about it? Has he not noticed how many cameras there are in NYC? Isn't he fucking stalking someone?
  • Come to think of it, Dexter was with the Miami police, so be knows what the police can do. And he just stole a dead man's car to get to NYC. Does he not know that someone can track the car he stole? If so, why didn't he get rid of it immediately when he got to NYC? Was he at least smart enough to sell it for cash?
  • If the Dark Passenger has killed a bunch of people, are we to assume he never carried that branded tote bag with him on any of the other murders? (The video Dexter saw was not seen by the police, remember.) Because Dexter noticed the logo pretty damn fast, so the police would have, too. What kind of successful serial killer can't figure out not to carry easily identifiable clothing (tied to a place he works) with him on his murders?
  • Why is James Remar back as Dexter's internal voice? I'm happy to see him, and I understand this "season" is about father/son stuff, but so was least season. Did Jennifer Carpenter say she didn't want to be involved?
  • Why in the fucking world did Angela assume that Logan haphazardly firing bullets into the ceiling of the jail cell Dexter was in meant that Dexter, who she assumes is a serial killer, was fighting back in self defense? Did she not consider how Dexter got out of the cell in the first place? Does she think Logan tried to shoot Dexter for no reason?
  • Angela must have known Dexter survived. How could she conclude, "We're even," after her deputy was killed? I know Dexter helped her find all of Clancy Brown's victims and put her missing friend to rest, but... she just decides to cover for him and run? Why? He still killed Logan!
  • Angel said María privately confided in him that Dexter was the Bay Harbor Butcher. It's been forever since I saw the original show... was this scene shown in the show, and does this line up with Angel's behavior after she must have told him?

And all of that is just from the first two episodes. God help me, I'm sure it's going to get worse. It really should have ended with New Blood.

You just can't escape the white man bad / brown immigrant good narrative in modern shows, can you? That's why I don't even bother watching shit nowadays.
the original series had none of this shit as far as I remember.
I think they're going to reveal that the killer is a former taxi driver, who bought a medallion and everything, whose business was destroyed by UrCar, a gig job anyone can do.

So they'll make it look like he hates immigrants, but it will actually be that he hates those damn GIGGERS.

I think they decided they didn't want the new series to feel like a second season of New Blood and they don't want to reference too much of the original series, but those decisions aren't handled as well as they could be. For example, Dexter mentioning he went to rehab for being a heroine addict could help as a excuse when people wonder why he's sus, like someone suggested he could have said he was using ketamine to treat his heroine addiction to Angela & Batista.

Also I found the clip you're looking for from the original series sort of.
