There will probably never be a "good" Discord alternative, because if there was then that application would get shit on for a lot of the same reasons Troonscord does.
There's two things that many of Discord's problems can boil down to:
1. Access to kids.
If the next Discord app takes off, it would have to be 18+. It's not foolproof, but keeping this shit away from kids should be a priority as it'll help mitigate a lot of the grooming problems a platform like Discord and other social websites have, but that’s never gonna happen of course because unless it's catered towards porn use (the most (((profitable adult market))) around) severing off a group of people from using it isn't the most profitable business move to take.
2. Rampant degeneracy and sharing illegal material with other pedoes and zoosadists.
Apps like Telegram or Matrix prides itself on privacy, and with that unfortunately attracts a lot of deplorables wanting to share CSEM and shit. There's no real way of solving this, not without it becoming full-on spyware for your messages and the material you send. I'm aware Discord has some CSEM scans in effect whenever you send it to other users, but it's clearly not enough given what goes on between others in DMs.

Fact of the matter is online discussion publicly for use between teenagers and adults is a mistake and it should all be shut down entirely, this is why Roblox is currently facing a grooming problem itself and why that shit needs to get shuttered all together.
Where there's spaces for kids, there's opportunities for pedoes to groom and congregate.

Is using Discord but modifying it with Vencord or BetterDiscord not good enough?

Late but Vencord and other client mods only improve the client (or at least attempt since it's already a hot mess) but it doesn't solve the fact that Discord's userbase is fucking terrible. I've met some nice people on there that I still keep in touch with on other platforms but they're really rare IMO.

These days I typically use Steam chats, Slack and IRC. Even if IRC is old as fuck the good thing is that it gatekeeps retarded doomscrollers from using it most of the time. You can definitely find some for sure, but trying to look for active IRC servers and channels is too hard for them.

I probably should've known that saying that would've gotten some slack since I'm betting most people here have a low tolerance of Discord's bullshit but I think that it is usuable if you just do not engage with the userbase that surrounds the program like not joining servers and use client mods such as Vencord to stop tracking/telemetry or add extra features. If you treat it as a regular chatting program for use with friends only then it's a decent enough experience.

I would probably use alternative shit like that if I wasn't already convinced that my friends would flat out refuse to give any of them a shot. They're definitely not as autistic about technology as I am. That's why I'm pretty much stuck with it.

Somebody should just make an old skype clone with different branding, market it to normal people, and i would use it. All the other alternatives are too faggy lacking features and no normalGODs use them
