I agree, there's so much argument here, nothing is going to fly. Even if we came up with something, the new term would just become the new dogwhistle. A lot of people will simply forget, or come back from a long hiatus not knowing the new rule. Use whatever word or combo of words works best for you. Save everybody the trouble and just word-filter "dox" already.

I understand the concept that, under 230, word-filtering can be construed as editorializing. However, 230 has never prohibited sites from removing illegal content which, arguably, is what this word filter would attempt to do.

I'm going to reiterate my suggestion that "Dox", "Doxing", and all other variations of the term be filtered to "DICKS". Since the whole thing is pretty gay, word-filtering "dox" to "DICKS" just makes sense. Plus, it will spare users from reading (and making) tons of annoying backseat moderation posts, and the mods will be spared a flood of new reports about the use of a single word.

Plus it would be kind of funny.

I don't think the use is actually illegal content, as in content that is illegal to host. It's not illegal to host content of idiots filming themselves committing crimes, so I don't know why this would be anywhere near the threshold.

Deleting the entire post might be more justifiable using your logic, but a word filter isn't.

section 230 specifically protects sites when they do remove illegal content. the word 'dox' is not illegal in and of itself, and removing it does not remove the intent behind what it describes. we're still doxing people, whether we call it that or not. filtering the word, however, is editorializing a user's post, which could potentially be construed as publishing, rather than simply hosting. that's the problem. when posts are editorialized by a site (or rather, by the administrators / moderators of a site), that site can no longer disclaim responsibility for what its users are posting.
