from just watching e;r's video, i knew the rest of it was going to be absolute dogshit
good thing i never bothered
I knew from the Netflix logo.

It's pretty crazy how bad writing has become the last two decades. I would bet that even if the team behind it brought the original writers they still had like 10 women and troons on the writing table dictating to make it dumber so even the most braindead pajeet could understand what's happening.

I remember how people thought Netflix specials used to be promising.
then it just turned into the most overproduced slop imaginable from all corners of the world

The decision isn't between tedious flashbacks or stilted exposition. Well-written dialogue can explain things without being expository.
This, so much this. That Aang is telling me "I don't want to be the avatar, I'm a fun loving kid that eats pie!" instead of showing me that with him playing some pranks or playing with the other air temple kids instead of flying like a faggot is what makes this so wretched.
Total runtime of the first season of the netflix show is longer than the first season of the cartoon fyi
And this is beyond fucking depressing, that it had a longer runtime yet is so incredibly clumsy at presenting character motivations. Because I assume they skipped all of the little moments like going to islands to fuck around while Aang was still in full "avoid responsability" mode yet they had more incredibly pointless scenes like Souzen's exposition dump with the earthbender spies. We don't need to know the comet is a thing at the start, we just have to know that the airbenders got whiped out. That just felt like overexplaining stuff that doesn't need overexplaining like if they saw the lolocaust memes about the airbenders, same deal with "aaaaall the airbenders happened to be in the south temple that day!". Keep it a mystery WHY they were able to take them down because Soka discovering the comets effect in the library was THE turning point of actual understanding.

And this is without going into the character assassinations, my god did they do Soka dirty and Hiro is such a depressing buzzkill.

When? Netflix's reputation was always 'Television by Committee.' Its shows never had any real vision, nothing that made them special. They were just a bunch of elements mashed together to compete with existing shows/networks. I remember specifically when Orange and House of Cards came out, and the reaction was basically, "They're good, but..."

Newest video is very good. I, for one, am glad to see a rant about another Avatar-related dumpster fire that is way more interesting to look at (even if it boils down mostly to "HOLY SHIT, SHOW DON'T TELL, CAN'T YOU FUCKERS WRITE?") than another book of Whorra.

HOLY SHIT, SHOW DON'T TELL, CAN'T YOU FUCKERS WRITE?
for a moment, i thought the netflix adaption was a movie or something because holy shit
i've unironically read fanfiction better than that
fucking fanfiction
why do we live in a timeline where amateur writing made for free outdoes multi-million to billion dollar stuff?

The video being this funny definitely gives it enough merit to exist but to this day Korra S3/4 have this undeserved reputation of it actually being good unlike S1/2 so another book of Korra getting shat on is far more important than another dunking fest on something everyone already agrees is trash imo.

A bit late to the video, but honestly, i wasn't much a fan, not because of the content or criticism itself, but because of the format. When i saw the 50 minute run time i thought "cool he is gonna cover the entire series" but when I saw him stop constantly for every little detail, i started feeling a sense of dread since i just knew he was gonna pull a Mauler and drag on the video just so he could make comments that he thinks are way too witty or funny than they actually are. Wow, you meant to tell me that the director is a hack who thinks he is better than the OG just because that version was a cartoon and this one is live action? And that this version is more childish than the original despite what the director said? Cool, but I could understand that the first time without you having to repeat it 20 more times across the entire video. It honestly surprises me E;R went for this type of video since I thought his best videos are those where he keeps things concise and short, like the magical negroes or Korra book 3 videos, while his videos where he tends to go into tangents unrelated to what he is reviewing like Rogue One, or Glass Onion are much weaker. i really hope that he goes back to that format in the future and he doesn't slowly become into a mauler clone, making 7 hour videos on movies that are 1 and a half hours long.

TL;DR: He made some good points but he shouldn't have turned them into running gags or whatever he tried to do.

Agreed. It did get me to finally go "fuck it" and rewatch the show though. In season 1 episode 15 and really enjoying the revisit. Even the Great Divide I found enjoyable and that the real life show shat on the possibility of doing something like The Storm speaks volumes about their infinite retardation.

haha look how bad this game is >plays it for hours and hours
