When you get a new item, that special window shows up that you have to dismiss announcing you have a new item. In the top left corner of that window a symbol should show up corresponding to what kind of item it is. Should be the same icon as in your inventory categories but it's not a good indicator. When you're starting out that symbol means next to nothing and I don't see why they couldn't have just had some text.
That's good to know. Would definitely prefer it if the indicator was in text form though.

My character class choice was Bandit. No real reason, I can't imagine that I'm fucked or that it makes the game that much harder. But as it turns out I have unlearned the DS control scheme so I am at extreme noob level right now. Haven't played much though, I'm currently in the starting area in a cave filled with wolves trying to beat Feral Garbage Man Luxior or whatever the boss is called. When I get stressed I try to stab with X on the joypad, that's no good. I don't know if I have a slow roll either, it feels weird.

Performance wise it is fine, it defaulted everything to high on my graphics card that cost 199 new in 2016 and I am using ancient studio drivers. I really think you can get away with 8GB of RAM if playing after a fresh reboot.

If you were wondering what the unreachable item was in the beginning, its the holy protection up talisman. You can get it by going to the beach behind the starting zone. You have to jump down to the east on a horse jump to a small beach. You can kill a giant with a gravity art right before, then there is a hole in the cliff behind him, if you hit the crab, you went too far.

How does faith feel? I'm eyeing some of these incantation spells and the Coded Sword looks fantastic but I want a couple second opinions.

Bloodborne = Fear the old blood Lawrence

DS3 = barefoot maidens

Elden Ring = freakin animals with freakin knives attached to their freakin legs.

I leveled it a bit for the Tree Sentinnels Halberd. I've mostly been using it for basic healing and some of the pyromancies. Seems fine, but I'm mostly melee.

It has been amusing to learn that I cleared out Caelid like 20 levels before I was supposed to because I didn't explore the north at all. I guess that's why everything was one-shotting me, but that didn't much stop me. Alexander's quest felt like it was pointing me in that direction, so I just assumed it was the 'second' area.
Question: can you dual-wield two different katana's?
You can powerstance any two of the same type of weapon, so long as you meet the requirements for them both. Unlike DS2, you don't need to have double the stats or whatever the calculation was. Note that not only does it need to be the same class of weapon, but it looks like it also needs to deal the same type of damage. I couldn't stance the rock hammer and the pickaxe, but I could the rock hammer and the giant club; all three are considered war hammers. The powerstance is automatic, and you do the dual-attack with L1.

It feels like I'm basically just a pyromancer again tbh with some recovery spells thrown in that save me having to slot consumables.
There's a lot more variety of course but balls of black fire just feel like the most direct way to make everything dead.

I was about to start upgrading the Coded Sword tonight but I think I need to prioritise getting something with strike damage first.

Nevermind what I said about Fallingstar Beast, Commander Niall is the actually most annoying boss so far. I know I'm not alone in this either since I got summoned by like 10 other people to help fight him and eight out of the ten people sent me messages just bitching about how horseshit his encounter is. Hasn't happened with any other bosses thus far and I've been putting down my summon sign for every boss under the sun.

Edit: Nevermind, there's a boss that is all but fucking impossible unless you you A: are using a heavy weapon and B: are summoning 2 other people to stunlock her with heavy weapons because her mechanic is straight up bullshit. Niall is a fucking cakewalk by comparison.

Took me a while to beat Margit. He's a pain the in the ass for melee builds. I spent a lot of time exploring and getting upgrade materials. Margits shackle and fire resin were a big help to me.
I tried him at sub level 20 as a prophet using fireballs and it was still impossible for me.
Gonna try now that I'm level 40 and got upgraded weapons.

Co-op is very fun. I like that I can add myself to the summoning pool and be summoned anywhere I've been. It's the best way to farm.

(Major boss enemy spoilers... don't watch if you are picky about spoilers/enemy reveals)
This is 3 major bosses and a bunch of mini-bosses dying to the most overpowered sorcery combination in the game. I really hope this thing gets nerfed because I kill bosses while they are doing animations to get into a second phase.

I achieve this by using Comet Azur spell + the wondrous physick combo that gives unlimited FP and magick damage. There are bosses that people I know have struggled with for days that I kill in 20 seconds.

Some crazy lady gave me ghost jellyfish.
Read the description, you’re task it to return her home to her jellyfish family. She’s also one of the best summons in the early to mid-game.

I suffer as a STR user. It feels like Bloodborne with Dark Souls 2. Anytime I stagger a boss they recover much faster than I can and ranged builds are preferred it seems.

Anyone want story spoilers? A brief summary for those reading to see if they’ll buy the game is Demi-gods are in the midst of Civil War after the MacGuffin breaks due to reasons. One of them unleashes a bioweapon to kill the coolest guy who has gravity powers and rides a tiny horse. Another grafts the forearm flesh of others to become a real boy.

If you play your cards right that crazy lady may also make your spirits stronger

Yea have yet to fully invest in the Sorcery build yet. DS3 the sorcery build was a let down due to it just boiling down to Soul Arrow spam since you needed to dodge and they were the most efficient FP/Casting Time spell. So hoping the spirits/wonderous potion allow more spell variety in this game compared to DS3.
