He does have "cool" dickriders in that a lot of the upper crust of the tech industry like him (certainly not all of them). But those kind of people are few and they don't act like dickriders or go out of their way to engage in petty internet drama in the first place (usually, but not always). He also obviously has people at Tesla and SpaceX (engineers and other staff) who legitimately like and respect him but also do not spend their time on the internet going to bat for him or acting like dickriders.

In terms of volume, yes. But there are quite a few older people that really hate Bill Gates based upon stuff he did with Microsoft that was anticompetitive and things like that. The thing is that the number of people who used computers and the internet in those days was tiny in comparison to the number of people who use smartphones every day now so you're much less likely to hear about it and Microsoft and Bill Gates are far, far less relevant nowadays than they were previously. Besides the xbox they don't really make any products that young, politically active, socially justice active people on Twitter would hate on (which is funny anyway because all these faggots hate Twitter yet still love to use it because they're so addicted to it).

Microsoft also failed hardcore in the smartphone space so even the percentage of people online using computers nowadays is way lower compared to smartphone users. Apple and Tim Cook get way more hate by default because they run an incumbent company within the smartphone space (whether the hate is justified is separate to the fact that they will get brought up in current day discussions far more frequently than Bill Gates or Microsoft).

Yeah it's unclear to me why exactly he decided he needed to "publicly participate" by going on SNL as wario and that kind of shit in the first place. He did press conferences for his vehicles that were pretty cringe but earlier than that he seemed to keep a way lower profile and just did a few media interviews every now and then (reminded me of Jeff Bezos).

I'm divided though because compared to Jeff Bezos, George Soros and all the countless politicians & rich people who operate in the shadows while impacting things and only sparingly do interviews and do very clearly PR-controlled statements about stuff he operates a lot more out in the open with much less filter (sort of like Trump). This is in line with how some of the more recent rich people from the software world have been involved with politics - they have twitter accounts and they're fairly vocal and comment on political/policy stuff (and no, obviously not all of them do that, some keep their mouths shut).

It's a double edged sword because it means they get to publicly have their say about things but it also makes them vulnerable when they say things people don't like (which is always going to be the case because they're rich)

edit: I also think people sometimes miss the forest for the trees and don't really fully comprehend Twitter's role in major political/societal events and upheavals outside of the US and probably overstate Elon's role in things. There's a very large world that exists outside of the US that most people within this sphere of the internet probably don't pay attention to. But that's a complex thing to discuss so not sure this thread is the right place for it.
