Ethan kept taking his dog to the same vet and told the vet symptoms his dog was having (vomiting) and Ethan claims the doctor said that was "normal" for that breed. When it was learned that the dog had advanced kidney failure that's when they learned that giving the dog cheese could have been a contributing factor (sodium). To quote Ethan, "I sprinkled cheese on his food all the time. He loves cheese!" and then he blamed the vet for not telling him not to feed cheese to his dog and for not discovering the kidney failure sooner.

To be generous, he could have been in the process of grieving the dog's diagnosis when he blamed the doctor. But it seems like he never took the dog to another place for a second opinion and this was when they had achieved Youtube success and had the money.
