Honestly people like that piss me off, you don't have to believe what I believe that's fine! However being a massive holier than thou cunt about doesn't make you better or smarter than me it just make you a cunt.

The thing that burns me the most about this sort of attitude is that they have zero idea of how religions build up their tradition. Using Islam as an example, since it was what that poster was referencing, there're huge collections of hadith and Qu'ranic exegesis (al-Ghazali comes to mind, especially) that would probably fill a city's worth of libraries, etc. It's not just the Qu'ran. Hell, most religions have an equivalent tradition, but you'd never spot them gracing a Catholic library (or whatever) with their enlightened presence.

Whether one agrees with their arguments is a separate issue entirely, but ignoring that scholars within a religious tradition have been arguing and debating the details of their faith since time immemorial is, dare I say... intellectually dishonest.

I really wish these guys would realize that non-fiction and fiction aren't about determining whether something is factual. If that were the case, we'd have to start filing outdated atlases and science textbooks under fiction.

If they realized that, they wouldn't be able to go and rant how some religious textbook is in the non-fiction section. They would lose one edge they have.

"Religion has no place in [current year]" -- that's assuming once again that all religions are the same, and that a religion is interpreted the same (erroneous) way it was in the past.

I've known (and still do) a LOT of people who you could see as 'enlightened by their own intelligence'.
Most of them have been really nice people, in fact, some of them have become my closest friends over the years... But whenever we talk about religious ideologies or something even remotely related to religion, the discussion usually twists into "this is why we have no need for this anymore, it's silliness altogether". They always focus on the negative aspects of religion through history, such as wars and persecutions (yes, terrible things), but never consider positive contributions to (ex.) culture.

One of these mates actually wore a fedora + trenchcoat-combo for a long time. Glad he abandoned that a few months ago.

Sometimes I wonder what it's like to be one of those people who just have to write "God's not real" under every single "God bless you" comment they see. Actually, I generally just wonder how sad, bitter, and pathetic you have to be to be the average YouTube commenter. YouTube has the worst "community" on the entire goddamn internet.

It's not just YouTube unfortunately. And they give all atheists a bad reputation.
There's nothing wrong with someone saying "God bless you" or something like that. It's not pushing beliefs on anyone, and it's not malicious. It's just a genuine expression of empathy/gratitude from someone who happens to believe in a deity.

I even see posts on neutral sub reddits get attacked by bitter weirdos that must've just watched a Hitchens debate and come to the conclusion that all religion is evil and all religious people are exceptional. Why can't we just get along without belittling one another? I don't give a shit what beliefs you have so long as it's not hurting anyone.
And I know Islam gets bashed here a lot and that's fine - I just wish there wasn't this vehement rage by spastics towards all Muslims as a group.
It's like that South Park episode about Mormonism, and at the end the mormon kid is like "sure, maybe Mormonism is stupid, but it's why our family has all that we have, and you're just an asshole for not being able to accept me as a person because of what I believe."
Thankfully these people, like radical religious people are a minority. An annoyingly vocal minority nonetheless. But the bitterness expressed in the constant attacks by fedoras tells me there's a hollowness in these people's lives that if not filled spiritually (which is fine) isn't being filled socially by enriching the lives of those around them. I've yet to see one of these people even have the gall to act that way in public.

At this point, I would. Like, "nice Muslim meets nice Atheist at Fred Meyer. Muslim can't find a particular brand of butter, Atheist helps him find it. Muslim thanks Atheist, they move on with their day." Like, that might just be a welcome reprieve from all the raging assholes.
 
Fun fact, most militant atheists or "New Atheists" are Humanists (aka secular Humanists).

Humanism was founded by a 'prophet' named Auguste Comte who wanted to create a "science religion" as a replacement for Christianity after the French Revolution, and Comte himself even originally called it "The Religion of Humanity". You can Wikipedia this stuff. They even have their own 'statement of faith' you can read online, things like "social justice" and "diversity" are even tenants of their religion:

So yep, it's a religion - hell if anything it's a cult for freakshows like Scientology, since one thing experts say is a sign of a cult is that they try to hide what their beliefs are until you get in the door. They usually just call themselves "atheists" in public instead of Humanists so they can market it as an alternative religion for people who gave up on Christianity or mainstream religions, that and so if you try to criticize Humanism's beliefs they can just hide behind the "atheism is just a lack of belief" copout.
