Impressive. Very nice. Let's see the transcript that wasn't defiled by western localization.
I assume by default that they will latch onto any anime-styled game.

Get ready for an influx of people buying GG because of this scene.
What's funny about everyone in these tweet posts is, they are 100%, the type that never touched fighting games or are lefty equivalent of the coomer who buys fighting games for Baiken, Juri, Angel only to be blocked by game's wall aka mechanics.

And I love this funny cope of "See, Japan IS progressive and recognizes trans/enbys angry, weeb chud ?? :)))"
Except the difference between the way Japan handles troons and gender specials vs. How the West is pretty obvious;
While Japan does recognize them, they are still treated as freak shits, less desireable results and aren't put on a pedestal for existing (and being a menace) like in West.

Automatic translation isn't trustworthy in this case. I don't think Japanese even uses pronouns at all, but I'd rather wait for someone who actually speaks the language to confirm this.

CALM DOWN FOR A MINUTE

I'd like to point out that all of this information comes from weebs who ran the site through machine translation. I've been a professional JP-EN translator for over a decade. Here's what's actually true.

1. The official profile on the Japanese Strive site, the one that everyone's been machine translating, does not use any pronouns whatsoever. This is mainly due to the structure of the Japanese language, where the subject of sentences is frequently inferred instead of being stated explicitly. Japanese machine translation often defaults to male pronouns when none can be found in a sentence. This may also be related to the next point.

2. The official profile on the global Strive site is an accurate translation. In fact, this is an extremely tight translation with no liberties taken whatsoever. As a result, the following point was made possible:

3. The official profile on the global Strive site does not use any pronouns whatsoever, instead using Bridget's name. While this is nonstandard and may sound unusual to a native English speaker, this is grammatically correct. It also has the added effect of completely sidestepping the issue of pronouns.

4. I have not seen any screenshots or footage of Bridget's profile inside Strive in both the Japanese and localized versions. This means I can't speak to the accuracy of anything outside of the official media provided by Arc System Works.

If someone would like to provide me with screenshots or footage of the game, I'd be happy to verify, but for now, don't go running off half-cocked because some weeb knows how to use Google Translate.

The last image does read "Because... I'm a girl!"

However, keep in mind that this is stated by Bridget, who has historically been unreliable at best when it comes to this topic. I wouldn't take this as ArcSys's official statement on the character's gender. A screenshot of Bridget's profile inside the game, where it lists the character's gender, would be definitive.

So the troons are clapping for a character who has now buckled to societal norms and embracing the identity they were told to be instead of the one they want to be. They somehow managed to make the character less pro-trans in the process of trying to make him more and I am impressed.
That's the most funny and fucked up part you think they will be against the retcon overall because he essentially caved in to his parents and societies pressures something that go against what trans people want in real life. But no since the character is officially trans now the story implications don't matter. Man I feel dead inside.

Still, it seems like I didn't really missed anything at EVO when it comes to tournaments, it really is devolving into just E3, but with fighting games.

Absolutely none of these people are going to buy or play Strive. Their interest begins and ends at the dramatic announcement that a character is a tranny or nonbinary.
After bridget stops being on the trending tab, they'll forget all about him, just like they did with Testament.

I'm not even sure why they'd want Bridget as a tranny representative because the only reason he dresses up like that is because the village he comes from views twins of opposite sexes as an ill omen, right? The amount of psychological damage there is not the kind of message I'd want representing my people.

Then again these faggots are batshit insane anyways.

EDIT: Correction. Twins of the same sex are an ill omen in his village apparently. Or something. Seemed like an easy excuse to make a trap.

Those faggots don't even play the game, they just share memes on twitter and watch clips on youtube, that's it. When they announced the first tranny character the popularity lasted less than a week, the marketing team is getting a raise for sure.

I don't understand how localizers get away with this shit. They genuinely need to be given the boot.
Japanese devs don't care about what the weird round-eyes do, just so long as they get their money.

I assume like in most cases involving twitter this is coming from a lot of people who do not know or care about the franchise or characters in question just that their side has another 'win'

The Japanese are probably thinking "wow I'm going to lop off my dick now to be cool like those Americans".
Anyways, think of how many times you gave a shit when Japan poorly localized or censored a western game.

It is less the localizers getting it wrong (the lines are basically the same in both languages for this incident), and more that these things… do not really carry the same autistic moral weight in Japan than it does in the US. No one (save for some fringe groups) is going to point at it and say “ooh! Trans representation!” It really doesn’t matter here. No one cares that much, other than the hentai artists who might throw the line in for cheap wank material.

From Guilty Gear tranny bullshit to Street Fighter race bullshit. There's a little bit of YouTube channel drama and it involves Mago (a Japanese SF pro) and his reactions to the trailer for the 2 characters Kimberly and Juri.

Update: the video was privated 1 or 2 days later so I'll describe the video from my memory. It was a short 2 minute or so video. Mago begins by watching the Kimberly character promo vid. It is a clipped/edited vid, not a proper reaction from start to finish. Mago's face is basically an expressionless non-reaction. I don't remember what he says but he doesn't say much. Near the end, he says the word "killjoy." I don't know what it means in this context or if it even is an accurate translation. A person from the comment section makes a similar remark (what is killjoy?). The Juri vid starts and he starts to get a little excited (who is this?). As the camera approaches the figure on the bike, he correctly guesses Juri. Her character promo vid overall gives Mago a positive reaction and he calls her "cute", "sexy" and this video gives him "nostalgic" vibes. The preview pic for this YouTube video is Mago's face in front and to the left, Juri back middle, and Kimberly back right. The words "cute and sexy" is displayed in a big yellow font along the middle bottom, despite cute and sexy only being used by Mago to describe Juri and not Kimberly.

His reaction (or non-reaction) to Kimberly was lukewarm.

Kimberly is a strong and independent black girl who culturally appropriates Guy's ninja moves.

However he was much more enthusiastic about "cute and sexy" Juri.

End of story right?

WRONG.

A commenter points out that Mago actually did react to Kimberly a bit more than what was shown.

He dared to say (allegedly) that Kimberly was...

not cute

Proof that the common Japanese is still based unlike the cucked Westerners.

The channel is could be trying to protect itself (and maybe Mago) from cancellation but ironically by trying to censor Mago's full reaction, all they did was bring more attention to it.

If this was about protecting fragile Western sensibilities or protecting Mago from foreign SJWs, the channel gon' n dun fucked up and should have just completely ignored this topic.

I would like to watch his full reaction, where can I view it?

this is the worst editing ever on this channel. personally I was disappointed with mago's reaction, but it should not be hidden from international viewers

@Dan Maeda Sorry, but Kimberly's moves and line are cringe. They should've shown the ninja tools off in the trailer instead of just kicks and izuna drops.

@JayC Mago doesn't understand English, so her line is irrelevant to him. He also seemed to like her movements. He just said she is not pretty. It's a personal preference so it's fine. The biggest problem is that the channel manipulated his reaction.

It is very interesting to watch them express their opinions without any discernment to anyone. If it is something that hurts someone, it is unacceptable, but if it is just a difference of opinion, I think it is normal, so I want them to keep putting it out there.😁

Yeah, we can see that from his reaction. he wasn't impressed at all by Kimberly. lol

We need 'safe spaces' in Videogames. Away from people's vile personal preferences that hurt our feelings. Pfft. 🤮
