Even though it's probably just the usual bandwagoning over literal nothing, they might have a point given how the series has become sanitized over time, probably as the age demographics became more clear to Scott.
I know exposing kids to horrific stuff has become normalized in CURRENT YEAR (and why that is a le good thing), but I assume someone like Scott probably does not want to contribute to that.
As someone who was an OG FNAF fan since 2014 and accompanied the series until UCN... The Steel Wool era lore is completely alien to me.

So uh... what IS the FNAF lore?
On a completely unrelated note here is a cool image of a box I've found on the internet

No one knows, not even Scott. It's a series of ever-opening doors with no end goal or true answers in sight. Every time there's an answer to a mystery, twenty more open up and form an endless loop. The franchise has been milked try, but they;re still trying to get all they can out of it. The series needs a hard reboot, just scrap all the stuff from the fourth game onward and start over.

There is no such thing as FNAF lore, make no mistake. Scott cawthon made some vague references in each game and then let his fans fill in the blanks.
What there was, was a framework of creativity that fans could center around, mold & shape into what they want, and grow organically from. That's what the "lore" of FNAF is, That's why everyone is here, that's why FNAF hasn't disappeared. It was never about the story, it was always about the fan discussion and fan content surrounding the game.

In other words, don't think about it too hard. It's not really the point.

Secret of the Mimic is out. Nothing really to say about it, it's just like any other first-person narrative horror game. Seems much more stable that security breach and just better overall, but the mimic AI is kind of simple and it's basically just a walking sim. Kind of cool if you are interested in the newer lore they've been working at the past few games and media releases.

Why did they need to force the Mimic into the lore? There's enough villains in the series, they didn't have to make a new one and pretend it was important the entire time.

I mean it's better than trying to make William the main antagonist for the billionth time. It keeps him relevant but for a few years now the focus has been on the Mimic programs.

Of course they could just kill off William permanently and use one of the other villains like The Blob and...Vanessa, I think? Is she still a villain? But that'd mean the story actually makes progress towards some sort of goal, and we can't have that.

William HAS been killed off for years, UCN was his last game appearance. That's him in purgatory since he did for real die in Pizzeria Simulator.

Yeah, but he keeps coming back in other ways like Glitchtrap and Burntrap. I mean he's gone gone and no version of him exists anywhere forever.

Those are the M2 Mimic, Burntrap is even just some random teenage girls corpse.

Man, Christ. I can't keep track of this mess anymore. I just assumed they were William or a part of him or something, I dunno. I'll say again that the franchise needs a complete slate-wiping reboot, but I know it'll never happen.

@Shitted Scaredless
All this Mimic information was shoved into a goosebumps book series with a fnaf label slapped onto it that released a few months after Security Breach which shits out a few random stories with a Mimic lore dump at the end of each book. Nobody besides the dedicated autists and bored kids read these books and it whoopsies to the people who wonder why some random endo is such a big deal.

Also I don’t know why both Scott and Steel Wool had to flipflop between purple guy being dead or not. Fnaf 3, dies > SL, is alive > Pizza Sim, dead > VR, alive, but can’t do anything so passes down villain status to Vanny > SB, alive because Steel Wool completely fumbled it with vanny > DLC, dead, and I can’t help but nootice that Afton was killed off for real and replaced with a mimic robot since retroactively VR when the fanbase was getting really loud with the “Keep Afton Dead” when sb released in it’s horrendous state, and all signs pointed to it being Purple guy until said books were pumped out, but I digress.

I know this, as a day-one fnaf autist. I genuinely don't remember it ever being mentioned there was a corpse inside Burntrap, and I'll admit it's very possible I missed something. After all, he was originally meant to be a one off Easter egg Steel Wool ended up shoehorning into a boss fight.

It's best to just ignore security breach entirely. I think they are just going to run with the whole mimic-edwin stuff from now on, which is not far off a reboot.
...where the fuck did you get THAT from?
The books.
