I think it’s partially people expected him to mellow out. Frederick had street cred before since he was besties with Null and ran 8chan. Now he’s becoming extremely aggressive and effectively delusionally hostile toward the forum. Like constantly screaming at Cloudflare to get the site taken down. He’s effectively went down the same path as some other people with trolls remorse like Cogsdev. (Who desperately tried to take down the Cwcki out of trolls remorse.)
I think Frederick is under a delusion that the leftists that bully him will stop after he gets the forum taken down. This is 100% incorrect these leftists will still bully him until the day he dies. And it is sad to see a person drive his friends away because he can’t handle being bullied by Brianna Wu.
I can also see from his perspective why taking the forum down is so pressing on his mind since he’s afraid due to his disease he will die in less than 10 years. And so he wants to solidify his legacy as being “that former admin of a bully website that went straight and tried to heroically stop the evil mass murderers” and not “the coward that stabbed his friend in the back and now pitifully pleads with a corporation to take down a website because he hopes people will stop writing articles about him.”

Probably.
He's the rare instance of having a not terrible reason for being terminally online. Among the rightosphere, he seemed decently liked until his crusade against imageboards/KF. Even now, with furries being absolutely degenerate with no exceptions, you can at least see how he got there. Can't say the same for your average furry, barring lack of dad, living in metro, etc.

I think it’s more that 8chan gave him friends, and his naivete with Jim Watkins caused him to distrust his friends. And now he has no friends after 8chan only a perpetual sea of bullies that constantly tear him down. Frederick never learned that loyalty to a friend is what really matters. Which provides true happiness and value in your life. I doubt he will learn it before his disease takes his life.

If you visited the major boards sure. Mark's /v/ has always been bad, /pol/ is /pol/ and boards like /leftypol/ and /fur/ posted shit to get a reaction from /pol/ but there were niche stuff like /strek/, /toku/, /cyoa/, /vg/, /bane/ All super comfy. When the split to the webring happen, probably 80% of the niche boards got destroyed.
I honestly do miss the niche boards, because they usually didn't have political BS, just something they were dedicated to.

I remember there was a Cyberpunk board I liked a good bit. /cow/ was just an image board KF which was fun. And a soyboy (called /soy/ or something) board that was some of the best parody I've ever seen on the internet
the clones of the 4chan boards were fine, but the really gold was from the more niche stuff.

His is a tragic story, but i never really knew if the 8chan shit was just an act, you know him trying to fit in with, or pander to his new /pol/ish /v/ audience or if he was really serious about it.
I'd argue that there's an exception if you have enough sense to not associate your weird as fuck fetish with your identity in any way, something Brendan failed at miserably.

It's still hard to imagine that butterball turkey of a human instilling the basic foundation of 8chan with those deformed fingers. This is a necessary thread and it's surprising that it too this long for someone to write any semblance on a write up. The GG era of the internet was a very interesting period. No doubt Brennan was a key player, but his turnaround post Christ Church isn't surprising,. All the negative press between him and Watkins most likely led to an overdue self-introspection. That disease only gives him so many years left on this planet and he probably didn't want to spend it coding for image boards.

I've got squat to prove it since DMs are gone, but still - just around a year ago I was working on new OP for Bryan Dunn's thread and people suggested me to talk to him, since he was directly involved in his fuck-up with Denton leaks. Guess what? He was more than happy to talk about GG and in the end even showed some regret that many things from GG days weren't archived. Yeah, entire year after Christchurch and 8chan getting shitcanned by pretty much everyone and now he boasts how dangerous KF are, even though he was happy with using it less than a year ago.
