I would say 8Chan was far worst in its userbase. We are a lot more levelheaded and rational compared to the spergs that made up that community. Fredrick is just angry that a community of dissidents remain active. He probably expected after the Q shit and the Capitol Hill shitstorm for Null to shut down the farms because "things are getting out of hand, this is unamerican guys!" would have been the politically correct response.

I think his ideology of "it's just online, it has no impact on the real world" was shattered because of Christchurch, and if his worldview was proven wrong, then his opponents were right. Plus, he was probably constantly hounded by journos and activists, so changing his worldview to align with them would probably get them off his back too.

He definitely got off on parading around the media circuit and being propped up as the man fighting against the monster he created. In 2019 there were so many of these "reformed alt-righter" stories being written so they could spread propaganda on the evils of memes and free speech on the internet. Fredrick wasn't the first person to jump on this bandwagon. Baked Alaska of all fucking people had the audacity to do this.
Fredrick enjoyed the positive attention the press was giving him. He saw a way to get jerked off so he took it.

I love the narrative that we're somehow right wing when we are just as willing to laugh at and mock right wingers as we are the left. I think the one thing we've managed to do through relentless ridicule of anyone and anything is filter out the retards which resulted in more stable community compared to a lot of other forums out there. Allowing ridicule, relentless unforgiving ridicule of anyone and anything, in my opinion, is the best way to allow a community to self moderate.
Hotwheels failed, as he let in a whole lot of retards with the GG exodus, and the community turned into a festering hugbox for the idiots who were laughed and moderated out of other places. Instead of looking how at things are, he instead thinks things will go the same way it did for him, which kind of shows a lack of insight and ability to critically look at what happened with his own thing and realize what mistakes were made.

I honestly feel bad for him. he set out to try and make something he believed in and spergs sent it down the drain and ruined any chance of him living a semi-typical life (for someone like him). He wasn't even owner of the site when Christchurch happened but he was blamed for it. No amount of backpedaling, no amount of repentance could get his name removed from the site and I could believe that drove him crazy.

This is sad stuff. I remember when Moot sold out 4Chan and Hotwheels was effectively hailed as a hero for creating an alternative. I wasn't paying a whole lot of attention to the internet in general during the Christchurch thing, so I was unaware he'd basically retired. I was also unaware he'd turned on 8Chan and similar sites until he started sperging during the Byuu debacle.
Like, on one hand I do get it. Furry social circles are great at making people feel welcome and included, especially if the person has a skill set, talent, or something that they're well or widely known for. Being popular in any capacity will have furries non-stop sucking your dick hoping a little of that e-fame will rub off on them, or they'll be able to climb socially because of associating with someone popular/famous.
Unfortunately I think the people saying that Hotwheels will never truly be forgiven for running 8Chan are probably correct. Give it enough time and once Hotwheels has been juiced of anything he can contribute he'll get chucked on the bonfire of the vanities as well. Even if he's a defective potato person with degenerate tendencies, at the end of the day he's still a white male and has not trooned out and isn't (that I know of) explicitly gay. He'll eternally be on the bottom of the progressive stack and an easy target for 'more oppressed' furries and degenerates to dunk on.
