This kind of content genuinely feels like the kind of stuff fnf was made for, not all the really obnoxious sonic creepy pasta mods that it's apparently known for now.

When the core concept of the game is that it's a Smash Bros-esque mashup of internet culture, we really can't be surprised when the children who comprise this Godforsaken fandom pump out references to baby's first creepypasta and ecelebs. A lot of them weren't even alive when Newgrounds was big.
It's pretty hard to have fun with this game these days. Finding enjoyment in mods is like slurping tiny scraps of meat from a shellfish. You play a relative handful of songs on repeat for months while waiting and praying that your favorites get updates and that they aren't terrible. Don't get me wrong; the modding community has put in a valiant effort in keeping FNF alive, but there is only so much they can do and it is long, long past time for PA, Ninjamuffin and co to put out a playable product.
Oh well, there's more than enough games in the world to be playing. Wake me when Tails Gets Trolled v5 drops.

The simplest and most likely explanation is that they're a scrappy amateur team that doesn't know shit about how to manage a project, let alone a project with two million dollars behind it. Still, that's hardly an excuse. If they don't know what the fuck they're doing, then they should hire someone who does and get the show on the road.
While two million is a lot of money, it can still dry up quick if they waste all this time flailing around.

I don't think they ran off with the money but they definietly ran off to their safe space where they can't be raked over coals over lack of updates or just liveblogging their vacation instead of how the fucking game is going.

Really this is the result of inexperience dipshits making a game they didn't put that much thought into and it became an overnight sensation
Their biggest mistake was starting a kickstarter
They clearly don't know what they want with this game, but felt the need to raise money to get things started
And what resulted from this was months of waiting for a update that will mostly likely disappoint everyone

I know it's been said a hundred times but despite the cancer that this game is and caused, modders have literally put forth more content and gameplay using the source code than what the initial base game is like. Literally what could Ninja and the rest of his crew put out that modders haven't already made? This game both birthed and died at the hands of giving out the sauce files to mentally ill discord tranny kids and pedo manchildren and whatever Ninja could shit out at the end of all this will disappoint everyone because it's been 3 years and modfags have pretty much mastered whatever garbage code/art/music they could make dedicated to with this game.

Playing through D-sides again, it's hilarious how much brainrot Sonic.exe has wrought in some people. Whoever composed week 6 apparently cannot stop themselves from throwing in at least one bar from Too Slow in almost every song. Also Pico and GF's vocals sound like ass and the Improbable Outset remix is horrendous.

The .exe update is what killed D-Sides for me. Remix mods deciding that they also had to shove the latest popular mod/character into their "AU" has done irreparable damage to that side of the modding scene and D-Sides in particular was a pretty painful case to watch. Also DastardlyDeacon is a hack like every head mod producer out there.
Oh well, at least Week 7 and the Foolhardy remix were neat.
I liked being able to play as Skid and Pump and seeing each of them having a set of sprites depending on who was singing, especially since most modders forget they exist in comparison to other NG characters such as Pico and Tankman.
