From - paranormal horror mystery show on Prime/MGM+..Season 2 right now

will say, I think the cold open for the pilot was pretty weak, so much that I had my doubts then and there. It was pretty dumb that the kid had no survival instincts to not open the window to the stranger claiming to be her grandma after she's some indeterminate (but still long enough to know better) time in the town.
Yeah I thought something would come along and explain this, but nope.

The rules are pretty clear and a child that age wouldn’t forget them.

Kenny’s dad had dementia so it makes sense why he opened the door, but even that cost less than the dumb girl.
It would’ve made more sense if one of them was pretending to be her dad (though I’m not sure if they have that power) and was begging to be let in. Dad being home or not doesn’t make a difference if she’s just gonna open windows regardless.

Yeah, when I was first watching, I was trying to guess what their exact abilities are. "Oh, can they shapeshift to look like other people and that's why she's saying she's her grandmother?" Nope, the girl says the old monster isn't her grandmother. "Oh, are they hypnotic then? Is that why the girl opens the window anyway?" Nope, they can't compel you to do anything, little girl was just retarded. That mom should have had faster reflexes too, just run up and yank the kid away from her window as soon as she hears what's happening. All the blame was placed on the dad for not nailing the window shut, but the mom didn't do it either, and Boyd apparently do anything past just telling them to do it. If its such a big concern, hound them until they actually do it.

It's really not that its an awful show, but Jesus, the cold open is garbage.

I get the feeling the writers didn’t know what the monsters could do when they wrote the pilot. Maybe they were afraid they’d make them too op.

Because you’re right, it played like hypnosis, but that’s not mentioned or really shown again.
Then it seemed like they hinted at them being able to shape shift, because she thought she was her grandma, and one of the monsters asks RV family daughter if she remembers him.

Other than that, the townie monsters are my favorite element. Genuinely terrifying to watch and imagine having to deal with.

Right, yes, I'd forgotten about that! I think she did look like she recognized him too. Like you said, before the writers had really decided on what they could do in those early stages, maybe.

They're definitely the highlight of the show, Smiley really has a lot of creepiness going for him.

I do like how they’re a consistent threat throughout the series. Most shows eventually diminish their main antagonists but they’ve been consistently deadly.

I’ve always thought that it wasn’t quite hypnosis they used, but they’ve been hunting people so long they’re great at getting into peoples heads. I wouldn’t be surprised if it turned out the rocks didn’t really work and it was all just part of the game they’re playing.

I can believe it. Didn't Boyd find them in a mostly knocked down building with just a layer of vines between him and the monsters? It seems to be that normally you need a little more between you and the monsters for the talismans to work.
Edit to avoid double posting. I was thinking about Season 2 a little bit, and there were a couple of things that stood out to me. First, that the bus people who ran off and hide to avoid the townies, but they come out to greet the monsters who approach them was weird.
Second was how they killed the girl with the rebar in her head because of how fucked it was. Weird for Kristi to go "Oh, I don't want the last thing that girl to see is a gun pointed at her face!" but her alternative is "Let's just yank the rebar out and let her die screaming!" Brilliant, Kristi, brilliant.

Show dialed up the "white people evil" dial to an insane new level, even by today's standards.

It was revealed that:
The ghouls were former white townspeople who were given, and took, the option to sacrifice their children in order to be immortal ghouls, plus they get to torture and mutilate people every night then retire to a dank cave to sleep in their filth only to be foiled by the plucky non-white-male captives.

Weren't there some nigger ghouls?
I remember when they infiltrated the hippie house, that there were nigghouls among them.

Also, lmao, forgot this show existed, since it's one huge nothing happens.

That was revealed in the new episode? I thought it was revealed nearing the end of last season. Guess they had to spell it out. Gonna watch this ep on the train this Wednesday. Better be good.

I think that was from last season.
This new season, we're 2 episodes in and nothing really happened.
No wonder the thread is dead.

I’ve liked the first two episodes so far but man nothing has really happened. I fear we won’t be getting any real answers this season and it’ll be cancelled pretty soon. Writers need to learn that you need occasional payoffs with the mystery box.

The writers seem to be on Reddit and Twitter giving the chicks who can't act major plot points because fans "love" it. I couldn't finish the first episode on the train. That pregnant chick went full bipolar with stupid meaningless shit just to show off her 'acting'. They had a bunch of these "showcase" episodes last season with the dykes.

Might just wait to binge it if this is what they're doing now.

4 and 5 are final seasons. Nothing after. The rush of the reveal in e01 was done so fucking poorly too.

Show seems to be following this cycle. seriestwo.jpg
Now that time travel and multiverses have been thrown fully into the plot. There is a very high chance the show will jump the shark. It had been toying with predetermination and cycles but rather than ever really resolving those thread it has only been expanded on to the point there is direct intervention. Who will be The One?

The female characters are like they're written by angsty teenagers in highschool doing scripts for English class. 1st and 2nd season felt more genuine.

The yellow one is frustrating and a lot of intentional holes are opening up. They'll most likely do a reveal about shit they collected without ever looking at it.

The guy scenes are more interesting.

Right now it reeks like it's writing for the actresses and what they want rather than pursuing the actual story. And when they actually pursue it, it's still interesting.

The pay off for this season better be fucking gold, 5th season may not be worth it at all.

Especially RV daughter, which I know may sound goofy since she is supposed to be a teen, but they’re obviously setting her up to play some integral role, so it doesn’t fit.

The story feels like the writers are trying to figure out what to do, but production told them “Don’t care, Season 4 right now!”. The other seasons were moving along at a solid pace, but this one is like walking on a treadmill with screens of moving scenery around you. You’re not really getting anywhere, but there’s the cheap illusion you are.

We get the reveal early on that new girl is really Mr. Stringpuller, and they’ve done nothing with that but piss off RV daughter for two seconds.

I just hate that these episodes are 2 minutes of something happens 45 minutes of nothing and then at the end 2 minutes of something happens.

They keep heaping up the mysteries, for every thing they find out or solve, 2 new mysteries appear Hydra-like.

The mom cannot act for shit constantly pronouncing words wrong as well, the daughter has this nervous tic always putting her hair back (once you notice it you can't stop seeing it), dad was fine, the son is just a kid actor not much to say.

Boyd and Donna carry the show acting wise, his son and the GF are insufferable hippie retards that add nothing to the plot except for side drama.

The Asian kid who is Boyd's sidekick is fine as well but a lot of family and relationship drama, same with the lesbians of which one is a crackhead tweaker.

I fear they'll keep on adding mysteries until people tune out, dropping views and the show gets cancelled without proper ending, we will see.
