Wow! What was she banned for? I hope that Gail continues taking her medicine and things get better for your family.

I'm not sure how to put this in a way that won't sound sinister, but I think an interesting study could come out of all this. Before I go on, I should say that I absolutely do not advocate trolling a schizophrenic woman, particularly one who's as far down the rabbit hole as Gail, and I really don't think that feeding her delusions is funny. But I think a psychologist could have an interesting time investigating the impact of the trolling on Gail - like, how does it affect a schizophrenic to have their beliefs effectively confirmed by a deliberate outside influence? Is it beneficial if someone uses her delusions to get her to improve herself?

It's a moral conundrum, as I say, but if the material's already there...

I kept thinking about this sort of questions during the time Chris was more active - there was just so much material that researchers of all kinds could have chomped on, but I figured coming up with practical research arrangements would have been difficult, to say nothing of the ethical questions. Lolcows tend to generate cases where something interesting we all could learn from is happening, but getting all scientific about it just gets us a headache.

(Can we laser-carve the contents of CWCki on some mountain somewhere? Maybe that way in 5,000 years, sufficiently emotionally detached archaeologists would have interesting material to study.)

I'm going to speak completely from personal experience here, as I'm also schizophrenic and have been in a situation where people I was directly involved with in real life deliberately fed my disease.

What's important to understand about delusions/hallucinations is that, when they're happening, you know on some level that it's not real. The way one experiences the products of a delusion (such as "hearing" people who aren't there) is much different than how you experience reality. For example: one of my most common hallucinations has to do with body transformation. I can feel wings ripping out of my back and/or blades underneath the skin of my arms. I KNOW it's not happening, if I look in a mirror or inspect my arms this becomes clear, but the sensation is still there. If someone comes into the room and makes a startled comment about my new wings that would make the delusion much worse since it calls my slim recognition that "this isn't happening" into question. It's difficult enough to separate the true reality and the warped reality without that doubt. So to have her beliefs confirmed will only serve to add fuel to the havoc that psychosis naturally wreaks. It's not just in her mind now: it's bled into whatever understanding she has of the actual reality.

I really don't think it's beneficial in the long run for someone to use her delusions to try and instigate some sort of personal improvement on her part. That's as volatile as fighting fire with fire. The delusions are ground zero for the problem, and if her motivation for seeking help is because someone is manipulating her delusions that's going to cause a huge issue later on. Therapists, for example, are there to help you learn to recognize when you're hallucinating and give you tools to effectively protect yourself from surrendering to them. Once the original motivation for seeking help is revealed to be a product of an externally fed delusion that could possibly undo all of the progress that has been made up until that point. She was manipulated into seeking help, so perhaps this is all part of some greater scheme against her? Questions like that.

It's different than a therapist acknowledging and asking a patient about their delusions, as that's not actively feeding them. If a patient believes that she's Joan of Arc and will only respond to the name "Joan", then it's fine to call her by that name in order to foster a feeling of trust between you. But there's a fine line to walk between talking about her delusions and pretending that they're real, but random people on the internet are not trained psychologists. Their goal may be for her to seek treatment for her disease, but that should be something she pursues of her own volition or through the intervention of people directly involved in her life. Otherwise it's just another heap of lies.

This place is just down the street from me and I believe it is the only Jesuit retreat in the U.S. We have a good sized Jesuit footprint in Michigan. They even have a Jesuit college with a law school in the heart of probably one of the most violent areas of Detroit. Surprised Gail never dropped by. Probably a good thing she didn't.

Does anybody remember the video she did about the incredibly sycophantic book review praising her novel? That was sorta, kinda..... me. I actually got really excited in the office at work when I saw it on YouTube and then had to explain to all my colleagues what the ENTIRE thing was about.

Hey guys.... after a lot of talk about the wiki returning. THE WIKI IS BACK!

There was a lot of work involved in resurrecting the wiki. There are bound to be issues with broken links and incomplete content here and there. If you find stuff that needs fixing or written, please create an account and at least identify it in the talk pages. The wiki is open to edits, and if you are familiar with Gail content, you can improve the wiki!

I hope you all enjoy!

What a dumb report.

Putin is a product of the culture and history of Russia. A culture that would frankly never allow him to rise very far if he was autistic. His whole personality is fairly easily explained without the bizarre "He must be a sperg"!.


Of course even the dude who the report is quoting says he no longer believes in that article.

Hey guys,

Yet another update on the Crazy Gail Wiki. I've added a new feature that we think should solve a long term problem we have had with the wiki. That problem has been trying to find a balance between presenting a satirical view of events in Gail's life, showing what is happening within her reality, and letting people know what's really going on with her in real life. That last part has always been really tough to do, and has been a source of confusion and in some cases anger from casual Gail fans.

I can't really explain any better than this in an open forum, but if you go to the wiki and read the latest news on the main page, you'll see what I'm talking about. http://www.crazygail.com

What do you guys think? Are there any other ideas for how we could improve the wiki or other fan resources?

The red text works fine. However, a lot of the links to other pages in the wiki are borked (when they appear in red instead of blue). I click on the red links and the Wiki thinks I'm trying to delete the page.

Anyway, I have sympathy for Erich dealing with culture shock (and dealing with his mother sending him a video that ends with badly-Photoshopped images of her kissing Brent Spiner). I'd love to visit Japan but I'm rather glad I didn't when I was younger and expecting it to be some kind of otaku fantasyland. I think it's best to read the most jaded views of a country before visiting, to keep my expectations in check.

Same here. I've heard that teaching English abroad (especially in Japan) is a valuable experience that, regardless of whether he stays or not, translates well into his resume in America.

Also, am I stoned or is Erich actually cute? I never took a close look at his pages and stuff until now. He looks kind of like H. P. Lovecraft whom, I've gotta say, I definitely find attractive. But yeah, I'd tap dat.

I guess that's what happens when you're a direct descendant of most desired woman in the universe.

Good work with the Wiki.

I LOVE that!
Though I do feel kind of bad for Floridians.

Non-Gail Floridians can probably figure out how to use a proxy. Most people I've encountered in the lolcow-watching community are at least somewhat tech-savvy.

Oh yeah, you're right... That's a little confusing. It might be a little eye straining too. I have an idea for how to make it better, I just need to carve out some time. I'm thinking of something where the text or content is outlined with a dashed line, and has a small unintrusive "Blocked in Florida" header. What do you think?

Edited: I did a quick change from the red text, is it okay?
