Not even the most grimdank, tryhard, 80s cyberpunk fiction compares to just how utterly fucking gay the cyberpunk dystopia we're living in truly is.As dire as things may be, I can't help but laugh that I'm forced to use the dark web to call people gay on the Internet and to talk about anime girls. Society has gotten to the point where actual criminals have an easier time doing their thing than shitposters on the Internet.
Yeah, same. My friend had a pirate BBS that I'd overnight download Doom / Sim City 2000 from there. I also had a Commadore 64 when I was a kid and an 8086 as an early teenager that I wrote choose-your-own-adventure games in Basic. Fun times.I started browsing the web with a 33.6 kbps modem (that's kilobits per second, not kilobytes), Tor is extremely speedy in comparison.
At least Minority Report in theory was stopping those who were going to commit violent crimes, meanwhile we've hit the point where gossiping on a website is too much for society's sensibilities. Not even Demolition Man went to that level of absurdity as they'd just give you a ticket for naughty words, not accuse you of terrorism that made Osama look like a mentally disabled child. Not even the most grimdank, tryhard, 80s cyberpunk fiction compares to just how utterly fucking gay the cyberpunk dystopia we're living in truly is.
Sorry I took forever on downloading Brave and getting back on here.
Here's an alternative for a while - there's an inactive vtuber board on https://boards.baked.live/chuubas/ - a great opportunity.
Why don't we populate that for a while? It's not ideal but we could basically turn it into the vtuber thread for a while until there's something else up and running. It'd also be easier to attract people to going there instead of having to chop up onions and shit. We make a bunch of threads, we talk about our tubers, we have a good time? You know?
And because of how obscure it is right now, it's not likely to get hit up by /vt/ shitters or other bad actors.
All I'd say is avoid free hosted forum places like the plague unless you want to get TOS'd.As another person kindly mentioned, I'm working on something right now. As I told them; it would be a simple matter to create a basic free forum to mess around with templates and ideas + have normal discussions on, then transition to something more stable and filled out. I prefer not to make hard commitments without community input, or I'd go ahead and make something right away.
Too much "thinking about it" is unnecessary. Someone should just do it and we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. As for the dangers we'd face ? Just tell them to shove off, and we're far enough removed from the farms that almost no one would mess with us.Gonna throw my hat into the ring regarding the idea of an actual splinter forum. I like the concept, and I think it could probably be feasibly done, but I do have some concerns that I'm curious to see what you guys think about.
I feel like the current thread is kinda protected due to it being directly part of the Farms, with the stigma that directly comes with it, and Jersh's refusal to back down to almost anything or anyone. We are essentially a large side-show attraction attached to the rest of the site like a tumor. If a split-off to a standalone VTuber forum were to happen, I'm worried that there would be a decently likely chance it would grow beyond just the Kiwi userbase and start attracting direct attention from the VTuber community at large & 'undesirables' (re: Twitter) in a capacity that this thread specifically hasn't really ever had to deal with - which, in time, could eventually lead to a Keffals-esque campaign to try and pressure whatever splinter into going down. We already know that there are a fuckton of retarded VTubers - and even more retarded fans - who would probably actually try and do this. So basically what I'm trying to say is that whoever leads it would have to be insanely strong-willed and determined like our Dear Feeder has been. And that can take balls.
This isn't even mentioning the potential scenario of companies harassing any splinter with DMCAs/takedown notices if people start talking in ways they don't like/'''doxing.''' Like, for example, Phase-Connect already tried to take down a post here once before and seemingly only backed off because of Josh's instant dismissal and refusal to bow down to intimidation, but who's to say that they wouldn't ever try and go after posts again on a splinter forum that could potentially lack that protection/reputation and strong leader? These kinds of things could happen.

You're not wrong, your post brought me back to when I had to learn all this weird computer stuff like irc, fserves, xdcc bots and newsgroups to download Ranma 1/2 fansubs the size of Post-it notes you had to squint at to read..If you were on the internet from the 90's into the early 2000's this will be a familiar experience.
I was going to agree with @thhrang that these risk would definitely be something to keep in mind, but if that is your attitude and you think you will be fine, I respect that.I'm aware such things could potentially happen, and I genuinely don't care. [...]
Let's face it, guys. We're pretty fucking milquetoast.
