If you ever want to feel squeamish, take a look at the C96's bolt stop and imagine firing Tokarev ammo with one.'Tisming some. Interchanging loaded 7.62mm and 7.63mm indeed is very ill advised (in spite of some people foolishly insisting the contrary, and that's before you even get into the whole 'subgun load' question), I've however seen people talk about using 7.62mm Tokarev casings for reloading as 7.63mm Mauser. You could maybe try out if you're struggling to find 7.63mm and you either have or find a box of some brass cased 7.62mm loads of the former (or you're desperate enough to want to trim and reload Berdan primed steelcase).
Your gun may or may not quite like it though, if you ask people who have tried this, it works well for some, but for others the pistol doesn't want to cycle properly.

If you look at 7.62mm Tokarev and 7.63mm Mauser and just set aside the rough average 400fps difference in velocity, they're very dimensionally similar, but they're not identical. The shape and size of the extractor groove is the most obvious difference at a glance, but the shape and height of the shoulder is subtly different, and the neck is a hair longer on the Mauser case, these details will make differences when feeding in each other's gun.
This is not something I've tried, so my gut feeling is that variability in manufacturing tolerances and wear in individual guns might make the difference over if they'll cycle properly or not.
Isn't it great? Makes me lol.
EDIT: I had forgotten how retarded Arfcom was.

This little guy and a recoil spring are all that stands in between your face and that beefy bolt assembly as it flies backwards.
