GrayJay App - Almost all your media sources in one place, Developed in partnership with Louis Rossmann

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
Louis, I forget your @ but if you read this, one thing I find abhorrent about YouTube is how stuff goes missing. Do you think there's a way to have a button to archive videos or Playlists to way back machine in the app, so that way if something goes missing you can just go to the way back machine link for the video if it's in a Playlist of yours?

Based Louis Rossmann, app seems handy so far. i paid for winrar and I shall pay for this as well.
Just dicking around with it for now, it seems to work comparable to revanced and more stable than the odysee app. For something that just came out I'm really impressed.
I find it funny that it works better at playing Rumble videos than Rumble app itself.

Is there any legal reason this app is not going to get copyright cucked like all the others? I get they have actual money to fund a lawsuit but would they actually be in the right?

Newpipe (a well known frontend to YouTube) has stuck around for a long time. I haven't brushed the Law on this but they might as well make web browsers illegal. Keep in mind however that they have EULAs that can block individual users or something else.

It looks like it doesn't have Sponsorblock. Is that intentionally left out?
I notice that youtube dislikes don't work like that addon either, it's like it starts from scratch.

Been using it for a day and most of the last work night and only have 2 issues right now and both revolve around Twitch. Which is still labeled as Beta integration so I'm not all pissy about it or anything. To see live on it you either have to find it on the home screen or search the actual name and it sometimes shows up there. If you just go to subscriptions and click on the channel it'll only show vods. Having to dig through shitpiles like Hasan to find someone not-shit is annoying. 2nd is Twitch ads. If the streamer doesn't push for ads I won't get any at all. But if you're someone like DansGaming who has every fucking ad option selected because you're a greedy gay bald bastard then you'll have ads. It may just be the occasional 15-30 second pre-roll or random one... or if they do a manual ad break then it'll be all 5-10 ads.

@larossmann, is it possible to export your configs from the app and reimport them on a separate device? It could be a handy way to sync your setup across devices by using something like SyncThing.
Anyway, great work by you and your developers!

Keep in mind this is an app built from scratch, not a Vanced/Revanced clone. To get those features they'd need to be added separately by the devs or other contributors to the YouTube plugin.

Go to Settings, down to the bottom, and there's an Export Data button. It will save a .zip file with the data. On the device you want to import the settings on, share the zip file with the Grayjay app on that device. I tested it out earlier and it worked with no problems.

edit: @larossmann Congratulations to you and the team on the project, it works very well so far. I have just two small pieces of feedback. There should probably be an Import Data button added below the Export Data one. I'm unsure why it's setup the way it currently is, but I could see that causing some confusion among some users. The other nitpick that I could see causing a little confusion is when you go the Sources tab, choose Youtube for example, then click on the Check for updates button, (forgive me, I'm going on memory from an update earlier tonight), it pops up a message about re-installing the plugin (when an update is available), instead of clear language saying it will update the plugin. I understood what it was doing, but I get the feeling some users might not update the plugin out of confusion.

I would have mentioned this feedback directly in the app, but I already posted this message, and I'm a bit autistic about compartmentalizing my online life.

TLDR: The software works great so far.

Haven't had a lot of time to play with the app but I did today figure out how to login with my YT account through it and import my subscriptions.
I tried to do the same with Rumble but the list it imports is not correct. I don't know what it's importing but not a single "subscription" it listed was someone I was actually subscribed too.
Otherwise, app is performing very well. I trust they will get these issues worked out and once they do, I will uninstall Revanced with pleasure. Revanced is annoying to update since it won't just update, I have to uninstall it first and then install the update. I just did an in-app update of Grayjay today so they got that part down.

Does GrayJay require accounts on the services it connects to like the old universal instant messenger clients did, or can it do everything with (I assume) sophisticated scraping? And how does it deal with, say, an Invidious instance?

You don't need to login with any accounts. I think only YT is enabled by default, but you can enable more services for it to search.
I don't see how Invidious would ever come up with it.

As Sam said there's no logging in at all. You can even watch Rumble videos, like mad at the internet, without having to have a rumble account or dealing with watching it through a web browser. AND you can download them. And just checked and there's an Export button on downloads so you can have them as a normal video file for backups/archiving.
They just updated it and it shows active live streams on the subscription page now.

After trying it out for a couple of days, I am surprised by how stable it is at this point. It's crashing and freezing way less than Odysees on my mobile browser. And the only downside compared to the YouTube app is that it full chrashes like once a day for no reason. Will definitely keep using it as my main video "platform" on my phone now.

Dunno if posted, but saw a video from the Quartering https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X7O3IkmRaoM

Louis got two strikes from youtube for talking about Gray Jay app? Is this true? I haven't heard anything from Louis himself.
His channel is still there, this is from today

If he was banned, he resolved it faster than Quartering could grift out of it lmao

Edit: He got strikes on the Grayjay and the Sovereign Identity videos, he was not banned. Here are some back ups:

If someone can locally archive them, it'd be appreciated.

So with the latest update you apparently can't change res and playback speed in horizontal orientation on the phone. So I have to switch to landscape to change it. Interestingly it shows up in the picture in picture window.
