The old episodes were great TV however the new episodes especially after Joe left come off really staged and fake as hell, maybe the old episodes were staged as well but whatever they were doing before made it believable but now it's like they don't even try to hide it.

I also love Mike Veccihones joke about slaves being pushed and having to chose between being whipped or watching 3 episodes of impractical jokers in a row.

I think it's because they're too recognizable now. In the early seasons when nobody knew who they were, they could really fuck with people. Nowadays, probably 20-25% of people will at least vaguely recognize them. They probably have to put in more staged bits as a result. It's a shame because the show at its best is fucking hilarious, but there's just no way around it.

Also Trutv wasnt available in the NYC area or some shit like that. I remember one new York cable TV addict saying he could only watch it in hotels when he was on the road. That was a couple years into it too. I remember them even saying to friends and family that it was a hugely popular show and them assuming it's a lie because you couldnt get Trutv in NYC.

Somehow IJ left my life the same year Joe departed. New seasons stopped appearing on TV as religiously, and I got too engaged with life to think about continuing to torrent it. It's like a sign.

Great show. The library challenges were my most favourite.

Impractical Jokers will forever be my on-the-road hotel comfort show. No matter where I am in the country or what time of night it is, it's always on. It's stupid and probably fake in a lot of aspects and I love it.

Does anyone know what happened behind the scenes with Joe's departure? I remember looking it up online back when it happened, and there was a lot of speculation that he left the show because he did something fucked up and the other guys or producers pressured him to leave.

Apparently at the time none of the social media accounts tied to the show would acknowledge the situation and none of the guys posted any of the standard sentimental "we wish him all the best" messages, no big send-off, etc. Pretty weird considering how tight-knit they were and how integral he was to the show.

Consensus was that he cheated on his wife or did something inappropriate to female crew on set. Never followed up on it after looking into it that one time though.

Does anyone know what happened behind the scenes with Joe's departure? I remember looking it up online back when it happened, and there was a lot of speculation that he left the show because he did something fucked up and the other guys or producers pressured him to leave.

He announced he was leaving the show on the last day of 2021, with his message mentioning he needed to focus on "being the best father and co-parent". He was fully divorced from his wife in early 2022 soon after. I'm guessing he either was "too busy" with the show to show her and the kids any love, or, more likely in my opinion, he cheated with someone involved in the show.
In Sept 2023, he got back together with his wife, writing that "we have proven with compassion, forgiveness and an open heart we can do this". He does standup now, which is decently funny from what I have seen.
