You can kind-of get echos of the shit contemporary TV they were mocking at the time but I think it needs the context of that (and plenty more 1970's context) to be funny above "random" humour.

The movies (Holy Grail, Life of Brian, Meaning of Life) are all great. The TV show, Flying Circus, is honestly kind of hit or miss. That doesn't detract from my enjoyment of the movies though.
