How does one "get ahead" of a mob? If you have an idea on how to keep your hands free as the face of a movement, that would be very useful. PR However, I think idiots would try to smear you no matter what.
What I mean is, just like every slop YouTuber who blasts someone and immediately says "i don't condone harassing anyone, don't go harass this person", etc., it would have been a boon for him to mention something like that officially as soon as Pirate was getting blasted on twitter. As it is now, his movement is already linked to the review bombing. It might not have been had he said something sooner. Maybe I'm wrong who knows.

Planned obsolescence is a completely normal business model for software.
I know you're a shameless autistic baiter but no, planned obsolescence is bad and I'm tired of people pretending that it's good. You will take as much money as you can maintaining it or you will hand over the source material to the community and you will no longer own profits from it and you will be happy. You got that faggot? We no longer need "hot, new thing" every year. Deal with it.

Someone asked for some context on the fighting game stuff a few pages ago so I'll try to explain it as best I can. A few years ago, Rivals of Aether releases. It's an indie platform fighter with smooth pseudo-melee gameplay and fantastic mod support thanks to it using simple 2D pixel art graphics, it never becomes massive but it has a dedicated fanbase. Fast forward to more recently and Rivals of Aether 2 has just released, this time with a publisher, Offbrand games, of which Mald is an employee. The details on this are hazy, some news articles claim Mald is the co-owner in charge of publishing, others say he just does some work for them. Nobody knows for sure exactly WHAT he did, but we know he claims he only worked on the microtransactions and that he did it for free and has zero financial ties to the game. Rivals 2 is a bit controversial because the game is released with a smallish roster, few casual or single player gamemodes, no mod support (and because it made the jump to 3D, probably won't ever have much of a modding community, they're all still playing rivals 1), barely functional multiplayer, and a whooooole lotta microtransactions. How much influence Mald actually has over the game is unknown, but it's not his game by any means. However, we can prove he has sway over Dan, the creator, because months after release one of the new skins they add was not only added specifically at Mald's request but also had 25% (I think) of its profits go directly to him. Ostensibly this was for his ferret rescue, as the skin was for a ferret, but because of how his rescue is set up (Not a nonprofit, mald really hates 501c's for some reason) all the money just went straight to his pocket. Now the game is forever marred by being associated with Piratesoftware, which seems to always get brought up whenever they piss their fans off now.

His position is a Director of Strategy. He is not a "co-owner" or a "co-creator" of the company for sure, but he is associated with them quite closely. And he is friends with Ludwig.

I have no doubt in my mind the """journalists""" who wrote the articles calling him a co-owner asked Mald what he does at offbrand and he told them he was.

For thread tourists who want a quick history of Mald and the Stop Killing Games movement.

  • Shortly after Ross starts the Stop Killing Games movement Mald denounces it on stream.
It appears that Pirate Software is picking a fight with Accursed Farms
stream where he admits he hates Ross and the initiative and refuses to debate him
  • Louis Rossman steps in to respond to Mald's criticism.
Rossmann now calling him out for his bad takes.
  • Mald Makes two videos on the Stop Killing Games movement trashing it.
Jason's made a full video where he complains about SKG for 15 minutes.
Imagine trying to justify your shitty position by arguing that someone might do something that's illegal.
  • Claims that he never deleted Ross' comment on his video and instead it was the automated filters he set up.
mald's downplaying Ross's entire response being deleted saying "it's not the end of the world"
  • After stating "I'm going to actively tell people not to" support Stop Killing Games, his two friends make videos bashing it.
ThePrimeagen and Theo Browne already voiced their opinions on stopkillinggames.
  • Chanting "one of us, one of us" while talking to a game dev who is in support of preserving games.
Two faced Jason the game preservation enthusiast
  • Alternating between not talking about it and ranting about it.
Seems like he's trying to STFU about it, but just can't help himself.
  • Publicly stating that his position working for a publisher of a live-service game is not a conflict of interest.
"I'm just the director of strategy. I'm not disagreeing with skg out of a conflict of interest"
  • Mald has deleted the initial stream of his Stop Killing Games rants.
I just noticed that Jason removed the stream that began the shitstorm where he shits on stop killing games
  • Ross mentions how they're is not overlap between people realizing Mald is lying about WoW to realizing that he is lying about Stop Killing Games. (Foreshadowing)
Ross Scott (Stop Killing Games) thoughts on the Pirate Software incident.

I hope I didn't spam ping everyone I just linked to.

He says hes Done but he also said that 10 months ago
I'm betting he doesn't make it through this stream before talking about it, the way he skirts around the subject is so fucking gay.

He says hes Done but he also said that 10 months ago
Yeah he's done right now because he just started his stream, and his tranny life partner just brought him food. In 12 hours he's gonna fold to the hate faster than Kevin Spacey folds in front of an inebriated underage boy.

Didn't you know? Jason Thor Hall gives his employees medical, vision, dental and life insurance. He's a heckin good dude, and he has no problem letting everyone know that fact. I wish I could hold back a sea of haters for some furfag narcissist and get a crappy HMO health plan in exchange.

People like Thor with Microsoft corpo monopolies will pull plug software without second thought, retards like Nintendo she emulators and rom sites without second thought. Game preservation and modding is a big no no because it cuts into profits with half assed paid update packs and enhanced editions like Switch 2 games.

Modern Ubisoft games and storefront that are essentially game rental store with indefinite amount of time, double layered DRM that fucks over consumer. Steam itself is DRM, companies put two types of invasive on their shit like Sloplands 4 with 80 dollar pricetags, disc drives are phased out of laptops and PCs to force digital download only from live service games.

If literally abandoned games with 0 players stay playable with bots what is corporate excuse?
My personal favourite dead games that can be played today
Well of souls (You can still email the dev and buy a golden soul in year of our lord
Tremulous
Natural selection 1
Shitton of proto second life games with cool flat picture avatars
All of them can be downloaded and explored even though they're devoid of life.
Fuck Thor, games are are cultural relics and need to be preserved.

Every now and again a libertarian gremlin wakes up in me after I've read through another several thousand pages of regulations. It very quickly falls asleep again once I remember people like that guy exist.
I hate to credit asmongold for this, but you know a broken clock is right twice a day.
The smartest thing I ever heard him say, "The thing about a free market is, the second its free someone's going to take it and not make it free."
Which is what every corpo cocksuck does. Which is why you need regulations to try and keep it at least competitive.

LOL the most loaded question imaginable. Mald is begging for him to throw him a bone.
The answer nigger, is you give a private server.exe that simple.
The Dev going "OH YEAH TOTALLY WOULD.", was beautiful.
And then he gives the best answer ever. "I wanted to show it to my wife."
FUCKIN EXACTLY.
I want to show this stuff to my grandkids. Come see your cranky old grandpas ancient dinosaur games.

I feel terrible for Ross. Imagine devoting over a decade to a movement that would only help gamers, only to have that fucking retard Thor ruin it in one swoop using bad faith logic and blatant misinformation. I only barely heard about this movement, but I didn't even know Ross was the one who started it, and none of the big YouTubers were talking about it. The only thing I remember is Thor talking shit about it, and that's because it showed up in my channel feed.

This would have had so much momentum and potentially changed the future of games, but Thor fucked everything up. And he doesn't even think he's wrong. Fucking retard. And managing that movement went as far as negatively impacting Ross; he had to do shit that he didn't even want to do, was inflicted with moments of self-doubt, and even made it harder for him to make content and money. And all that effort was ruined because Thor couldn't admit he was wrong and wouldn't even engage in a dialogue with Ross. I've never been so pissed.

Give me all the :optimistic:. I am ready.
However be aware that there's still 33 days left and the current drama created a significant momentum. Two or three days ago the signatures were at 49%. Today it's 57% (at the time I'm writing this). That is quite a lot in a very short time.
Currently to pass on average there would need to be around 12k signatures daily. Yesterday around 50k signatures were signed. Today it's already on 9.5k signatures. Sure, the momentum will eventually stop (hopefully later rather than sooner), but this large influx of signatures affects the "average daily needed", making it lower.
Every time Thor opens his stupid mouth about it ironically more people are getting invested in it. And right now everyone on YouTube is dogpilling on him, dismantling his arguments, calling him a fraud, liar, etc. You would need to be in an exclusive echo chamber of his Discord to not notice those. And it is much easier to convince people to vote AGAINST someone than for a noble cause.

This video gave me a lot more respect for Ross, but he's got my sympathy.
Thor's smugness was actually kind of triggering. His condescension reminds me of the type of people who insist eggs are "dairy" because they're in the same section as the milk.
I'll be honest, the Jason part is where I've stopped watching the video. I really didn't need Ross to tell me how much of a corpofurfag the former is, and Ross's smooth delivery didn't help things much, either.

This would have had so much momentum and potentially changed the future of games, but Thor fucked everything up. And he doesn't even think he's wrong. Fucking retard.
Just another one in the ginormous pile of reasons the faggotry cult probably deserves to be murdered. You know, before they do school shooter moves on the entire first (and second?) world: kill the whitey, and then themselves. Shame it's mostly legal for them, but not for anyone else, so...

...yeah, tell everyone to drop their signatures in. "Pirate"Software would have to get comfortable with not owning his money, or support.

1:36:00 he is so cognitively dissonant his computer threw an error LMFAO. And at 1:36:30 he probes the notion of community support, and apparently agrees with the answer: "one of us!".

What changed, Maldie?

In other news it appears a sketch in MDE2 was based heavily on this faggot:

Isn’t Ireland in the EU?
Yeah but it's only temporary. Soon they will be reunited... under British rule.
No one pirates because they want to.
:smug:
Lolbertarianism is a stepping stone, a way to still be sort of conservative on a university campus. There comes a point where you dump it in the trash.
Don't want to poltisperg too hard in this thread, but I found they understand:
>regulation bad because it harms business/companies bottom lines, which then falls onto the consumer; they can also prevent new business/companies/competition from rising up entirely as a consequence
>therefore all regulation is bad, and the body enforcing it - the government - is bad
>only targets regulation that would benefit multibillion dollar international companies and opposed pro-consumer regulation in principle
By positioning the government as the ultimate evil, they continuously give companies passes because they attribute their actions being born out of necessity to actually turn a profit, not because the perpetual pursuit of said growth leads to suicidal decision-making.

For example: remember when Unity (game engine) was everywhere but then they wanted to apply retroactive price changes to their engine that lead to games getting removed from the market? The new CEO walked back that change, but they had no reason to do this other than pursuing growth targets.

Companies giving consumers the means to keep playing old titles may be viewed as an action detrimental to growth: "Why give them the means to keep playing this older game, it might stop them buying a newer game?" can basically surmise the mindset. Keep in mind, it's not the newer game, as in the sequel or some other continuation of an older title, but any game could potentially reduce the number of people going to the newer one.
