because i'm slow and dumb i didnt post this yesterday buuut i think this edit happened maybe about an hour or so after the initial post.

i know this post isnt much but i think it's just nice to share.

I don't think Lily understands the difference between being "blunt" and "being an asshole".

Being blunt would be if Jaiden just said "I don't like all the Rule 34 of my character and how easily it could end up being seen by minors" and basically just taking away the bit about her being neutral to rule 34 creators. That would be a straight forward declaration of her personal feelings and concerns over the situation and nothing more.

That would be being blunt, Jaiden just added the last part clarifying that she has no ill-will against the actual people who make Rule 34 because Jaiden is aware that this is the Internet and any fandom that is decently sized has people that'll pick up arms and attack anyone who might have upset their group at the slightest provocation, which is something Jaiden doesn't want.

Now, being an asshole would be if Jaiden also called all Rule 34 artists something along the lines of "filthy degenerates who only draw that stuff because they're bitter virgins and seek validation from other's just as pathetic as them".

That would not only be stating her opinion but also openly attacking anyone who makes Rule 34 and even subtly implying that any harassment that get is warranted by attaching labels to these people that gives the common man or women the impression that these people deserve it. Of course, Jaiden is a nice girl and I doubt she wants anyone harassed, so I can't imagine her adding anything like that to her statement. However, Lily almost certainly would, nuance and situational awareness is something Lily seldomly seems to considering when making a statement. Hell, if you want a painfully obvious example of this, as of the time of me writing this Lily literally just yesterday labeled everyone who liked the Reylo ship as racists and misogynists...for shipping two fucking fictional characters!

People don't dislike her because she's "blunt" (there are plenty of popular Youtubers out their who are what many consider "blunt"), people don't like Lily because she always ends up performing mental gymnastic's to rationalize why she is not only completely validated for hating something, but hating it puts her on the moral high ground. Oh, and if you want to understand why fans of "X" are racist/ homophobic/ misogynistic/ whatever you pretty much have to follow her Tumblr and Twitter religiously, and even then you'll have to be willing to accept a good number of bad faith arguments, memory holes, sweeping generalizations, and flat out changing of facts to accept her rationalizations as true.

tl;dr: People don't dislike Lily because Youtuber's don't like blunt people. People dislike Lily because she's an asshole who lacks situational awareness and empathy.

Frankly, I don't think Lily ever learned what the difference between being blunt and being an asshole is. Despite this, she's made being an asshole her defining character trait, and wonders why most communities online want nothing to do with her. When all you bring to the table is a smug, self-absorbed attitude most people would pick up their tray and go sit at a different table.

It must be such a pain in the ass to argue with this fag.
She can't explain herself for shit and just posts entire YouTube videos like that's any kind of retort.

You'd think someone who's been on YouTube for like a decade would know how to clip something for fucks sake.

That's because Liliana doesn't really internalize any of the messages of the videos she keeps posting and she doesn't internalize anything because she doesn't care about the whole discourse. She doesn't care what Vaush said or not since she already decided that Vaush, who keeps calling out her bad faith critique of Contrapoints as bad faith, must be bad for disagreeing with her. Xanderhal too made his own video calling her "insanely dumb" and Liliana has never let that go so she must drag him down, even if he had nothing to do with the debate between Professor Flower and Vaush and she can't quote any explicit example of him being a white supremacist.

This's nothing but her rejoicing on the people that criticized her getting their own criticism. She doesn't care about indigenous issues or black issues, it's pure pettiness as always.

As a general rule, people who brag about their "brutal honesty" are more concerned with the brutality aspect than the honesty aspect.

Speaking as someone who has spent way to much time shitposting about Lily, I have to say people like her just aren't worth arguing with over the Internet. The moment you disprove one bad point they make they either end up jumping to another point or doubling down on their own bullshit "interpretation" of the subject through insane logic that only makes sense to them. Both of these things they can do in less then five minutes while it could take the person who has taken on the burden of disproving these argument much longer to do so as these people aren't just pulling shit outta their ass.

In the case of the former, jumping from point to point, people like Lily can do that all day because it demands almost no effort on their part and a lot more on the person to discredit them. In the case of these people doubling down, the argument usually ends with both parties repeating themselves over and over again even when the counterpoint is right in front of them. It almost seems like trolling if it wasn't for the fact that people like Lily in this case are so damn determined to believe their own rhetoric while doing the Internet equivalent of stomping their feet into the ground and screaming "NO! NO! NO! YOU'RE WRONG! I'M RIGHT!" towards anything that might discredit their argument.

I appreciate these people directly calling Lily out on her bullshit, but that only works when you the person you call out is actually willing to listen...

Or if you got a good number of people calling them out on their bullshit and they have no choice but to either actually, seriously address the topic and the counter argument...or have a mental break down and run crying back into your safe space. The later probably won't help people like Lily improve as a person, but at least it's kinda fun to see them flip out.

But this is why Lily never debates people in person, or at least in real time. She needs a screen to protect her, she needs a good 5-10 minutes to come up with a "witty retort" and/or some fabricated argument, she needs a block button when someone completely undermines her opinion, and she needs her fanbase's constant reassurance that she's right. Put her against someone face to face who has a decent head on their shoulders, and she'll end up making a bigger ass of herself then Angry Joe did that one time a while back at the VGA's.

It's amazing how much she lives in denial.

Again, Vaush sucks (he compared watching child porn to purchasing a computer), but this is one of the few instances of him debating somebody arguably worse than he is. Promoting white genocide as a justifiable response to indigenous genocide is some kindergarten-level "bUt hE stArTeD iT" bullshit taken to the absolute limit.
By the way, Lily said "she didn't say that". I watched the video and yes, she did have a very "genocide is bad, BUT..." attitude.

every person ive come across who say's they're brutally honest, in person or online actually means 'i'm a cunt who just hides behind the thin vail of 'honesty'/'opinions'.

yes you can behonest about some things and some people are so deluded that slapping their face whis brutal honestly has to be the only option, but that's the only time brutal honesty should be really used. when literal life-effecting personalities/opinions are on the line. Nobody needs brutal honesty during some spergs ranting about what ships are good or bad. brutal honesty shouldn't be used when critiwueing fan art. This concept should even be used during cartoon criticism unless it criticized blatant hate-shit like racism/queerphobia and antisemitism and etc or bad workers conditions- yet lily has used brutal honest in places that aren't necessary, constantly, in the context I've mentioned and more.

nowadays brutal honestly is just an excuse for bratty bitches to just be cunts and rarely is it ever used appropriately. not just calling lily out on this but hooo boy doesn't she use it a lot

Holy shit, I'm on a roll!

Chapter 8 opens with an author's note:

1.png

Fortunately, the Wayback Machine has an archive from February 2020, so we can compare and contrast versions.

2.png

The original version plays out exactly as predicted, with Finn and Poe's reunion scene occurring with only slight modification from the film, the knots Jerry had to tie himself into to make this happen be damned. Also note that this is the first mention of the third Death Star in the fic. While name-dropping something that hasn't been established isn't inherently a bad thing, as it can build an aura of mystery around the object or character, the casual nature of its presentation leads me to believe that Jerry is once again leaning on the movie.

3.png

Jumping over to the current version, Jerry has inserted an extra paragraph, extending Finn's panic attack, and we also see our first use of Star Wars profanity. While in the films, the strongest curse utilized is "damned", the Expanded Universe novels occasionally felt that stronger expletives were called for. However, they wanted to maintain the generally PG/PG-13 nature of Star Wars, and so resorted to the old nonsense word trick. Kriff's (note the italicization) language of origin has never been identified, but it is generally taken to be analogous to "fuck".

Anyway, Finn and Poe meet with Leia, and we get another edited sequence.

4.png

The old version is, well, perfunctory. It goes beyond functional and into the comically brief. Credit where credit is due, the rewrite is substantially better.

5.png

6.png

On the other hand, it appears I was mistaken about Jerry removing the part where the destruction of the Republic was visible across the galaxy, he's instead elected to just not have it fire yet. The first thing that even approaches being a substantial change to this story, and it's not even because of Aliana. Or rather, not directly, because I suspect that "Aliana saved the Republic" is going to be used as a reason why she's such a good girl.

7.png

We scene cut to Ren's interrogation of Rey, and note that Jerry has significantly altered the opening part of the scene from the original, because, well, take a look at that fucking comments section. Thirstposting aside, however, the sexual tension is a critical part of this scene. The discrepancy of the tenderness of Ren's words and the cruelty of his actions heightens the scene specifically by casting him in an abusive light, rather than simply malevolent. At least it technically counts as a Ren scene that isn't him seething about Aliana.

8.png

Interrogation complete, we get back to the not!Rebellion as they plan their assault. It's the movie plan, with the addition of Aliana going in with Han. We do get another alteration between the original and the rewrite, though.

9.png

In the original, Leia grimly signs off on Aliana's intent to kill Ren. The reveal of Ren's parentage hasn't actually been made yet in the fic, but we can read that Leia is putting her personal feelings aside to make a hard call that has to be made. Also, I ain't never heard of that technique.

10.png

11.png

The rewrite, on the other hand, is, well, this mess. If these were two sensible people, this conversation would have gone along the lines of "No hunting, focus on the mission. Only engage Ren if he comes for you." "When he comes.", but Jerry isn't interested in writing sensible characters, he's interested in writing a cantankerous old lady that doesn't like her wonderful, amazing self-insert because she's a mean do-do head who gets shot down by extras because everyone else can see plain as day how wonderful Aliana is. In fact, Leia even pulls Aliana aside to have another bitch fit after the briefing is adjourned.

12.png

I see Leia's wit is fading with age.

13.png

And now that all that bullshit is out of the way, let's have some technical. The word "gun" has never been utilized in Star Wars: "slugthrower" is the term for a projectile-based weapon, and I have never seen one utilized on a starship. Similarly, "Turbolaser" specifically refers to capital-scale weapons, as opposed to the smaller-scale "laser cannons" utilized on starfighters, freighters and as point defense on capital ships. It is technically possible to mount a turbolaser or two on a Fury-sized ship, but this is generally impractical, as the low number of barrels combined with the long recharge time resulting from the smaller power plant makes it ineffective against capital ships while also being inaccurate overkill against fighters. They do have a niche application in ground strike roles, though, so fair enough in that regard.

14.png

The bad guys detect the recon flight and know that the Rebels are coming, Ren gets dressed down by Snoke, the "who the fuck were these guys again" get sent to get slaughtered by Aliana so that Jerry doesn't have to make good on killing Ren at a point where he'd have to take the reigns on the plot, and Ren seethes.

15.png

Back to the gang, it turns out that Aliana is such an amazing teacher that she can create a competent duelist in 15 minutes flat. For anyone curious, that name is Shii-Cho, more commonly known as Form I. Given that the adjectives most commonly ascribed to the form are "wild" and "clumsy", I'm going to predict that despite having some semblance of training, Finn's duel with Ren is going to go exactly like it did in the movie.

Meanwhile, Rey does her escape, and-

Remember, the only good brainwashed child soldier is a dead brainwashed child soldier.

17.png

Oh, right, there was also this absolute fucking horseshit. I'm tired and wrapping this up, so I'm going to continue to forgo the opportunity to go apeshit about how hyperspace works. Let's just say this this maneuver is so fucking stupid that I can't even give it the usual "this would take a Jedi" routine. It would take a Jedi that was intimately familiar with both Force-assisted hyperspace navigation and the ship he was piloting to even start making this feasible, let alone practical.

They get down, get a visual on Rey, Han, Finn and Chewie go to take out the shields while Aliana splits off meets to hook up with Rey.

18.png

I fucking hate r/prequelmemes.

Rey vents her anger about being lied to, Aliana apologizes, and we get a wasted opportunity.

19.png

Remember the outpost Rey toured? The one where Aliana handed over her lightsaber and I had a fit about that? I'm going to double down on that. Aliana's reaction to being asked to disarm should have been "I'll just stay on the ship, then". Then, when this comes about, it would have served as a payoff to that moment, showing the unique trust that Aliana is placing in Rey at this moment. But that's just me liking my stories having motifs and character development instead of movie references.

Doing a quick look at her channel, for the last two months, the main things she's posted are the In A Minutes of Craig of the Creek, and re-uploads of Mikaila's videos.

I'm pretty sure the reason you were bleeding subscribers was because nobody subbed to you for that content, not because it was 'mostly positive'.

Related note, but when I went to Google up Lily Orchard youtube it autofilled 'atrocious youtuber' instead so that was funny.

im pretty sure we archived lily herself saying exactly the opposite: lizzy wants to set herself on fire to keep others warm and she reluctantly accepts doing stuff that she doesnt want to and that was a big problem in their relationship

The best part is that Jerry could have just had Rey instantly shoot the trooper when he gives her the rifle and move on, but no, he had to add in the trooper being relieved that he was spared before getting coldly shot in the back without a thought by someone who's never taken a life before.

Maybe this is a wake up call for Lily. Now that it’s one of her closer artist friends being affected. Maybe she’ll learn that covid is serious and not something to lie about having twice.

I admit, I was very much skimming towards the end of the last chapter, and in the process I managed to miss another alteration to Rey's escape.

There was a thread that went up in Multimedia a couple days ago, making fun of /pol/tard IMDB lists of the directors and movies they want to remove from history, and I'm going to be self-indulgent enough to quote myself from it.

>Inglorious Basterds
Honestly, I think that the brutality might be the joke. Put these actions in any other social or historical context, and the reaction would have been "what the fuck is wrong with these people". It goes out of its way to humanize Nazis, particularly low-level ones, then murders them in cold blood as the audience cheers. It only works as Jews vs Nazis, because we've completely memed Nazis into creatures that exist only to be brutalized. The joke is that it plays out with a straight face, instead of bashing you over the head with a "NAZIS ARE PEOPLE TOO" message at the end.
I get the feeling that Jerry loves Inglorious Basterds.

Jerry's sadism aside, however, if we're running with Rey being able to turn a story she heard one time into a proper application of the Force, I think I actually prefer this particular change, because what Jerry has just perfectly demonstrated is the lure of the Dark Side, particularly for those just starting to learn the ways of the Force: it gets results, quickly, easily, and makes you feel like a badass while doing it. When you lack the discipline and control to achieve your aim the Jedi way, the Dark Side hands you what you want. And well it should, you're special, you're powerful, and the Force should respond to that power, because it is a tool that serves you.

So, having gone through Rey's interrogation, let's take a minute to review Jerry's goals in writing TSR. Based on the narrative he has consistently presented in his Tumblr postings, I'm going to sum up the emotional core of his story as "undermine the Reylo ship on the grounds that Kylo Ren is an abusive monster, and replace it with the story of two traumatized lesbians finding each other". However, Jerry has continually failed at this, because he cannot contain his hate boner for Ren long enough to actually depict him as a character worth hating; Jerry's Ren is pathetic, but not despicable. It's akin to kicking a puppy and asking us to applaud because can't we all see how viscous the puppy is. So, I'm going to go out of my way to spitball a way of doing this that actually achieves Jerry's stated goals.

First, let's go to that video I linked and grab some comments for posterity:
reylos1.png

reylos2.png
reylos4.png

reylos3.png

In full disclosure, much of the comments were also about Adam Driver's appearance, but this is the general tune of anything deeper than just "he's hot". Running with Jerry's assumption that Reylos are predominantly female, I think I see what's going on here. Bear in mind that I am not and will never be a woman, and that I am about to make some sweeping generalizations. As with all things regarding human behavior, every trend has its myriad exceptions.

What I have garnered in my attempts to comprehend the female mind is that sex is a deeply emotional event for a woman. As C S Lewis once put it, "women consent to sex to get love, men consent to love to get sex". Attempting to nail things down further, the theory I've arrived at is that the key emotional state is to be in a place where a woman is a place of both vulnerability and security, able to present her heart and body to her partner and trust that she will not be hurt for it. Applying this theory to the interrogation scene, vulnerability is self-evident, while security presented by both Ren's tenderness I mentioned as well as the distance from the event provided by the fictional context.

What I think Jerry has done is go in the fundamentally wrong direction for undermining the Reylo ship. For all the talk about how toxic the ship is, Jerry has not shown this in text, instead simply excising it and beating the shit out of Ren for spite's sake. So, since I have far too many ideas running around in my head for my own good, I'm going to try to come up with a better way of going about what Jerry wants to do.

First of all, I would tackle this scene by undermining the security. Other fantasy and sci-fi universes also feature methods of telepathic information extraction, and often uses them as analogous to rape. Jerry calls this the story of two traumatized lesbians finding each other, so traumatize Rey. One of the quirks of Jerry's universe I have thus far neglected to mention is that Rey has not actually seen the map, and I think this is our ticket. Start the scene like the movie, with Ren being polite and gentle, but slowly whittle the veneer away as he fails to find what he is searching for. As Ren becomes more desperate, he becomes more forceful, digging up every embarrassing moment, every regret, memories Rey forgot she had, all laid bare bore Ren's increasingly irate mental gaze. Have Ren tear into her mind, ransacking it like one would tear apart a room in a frantic search for the map, screaming at her with mouth and mind to give him what he wants. Somewhere along the line, something breaks, and Rey loses control of her body, then her mind, only able to project a wordless plea for mercy. A plea that goes unanswered as Ren kicks down the door to every corner of her mind. Finally, after every part of her has been examined and Ren knows Rey better than she knows herself, Rey feels the presence withdraw, and Ren storms off to report his failure to Snoke, leaving an effectively comatose Rey in the interrogation chair.

Later, when the rest of the gang shows up, Aliana senses Rey's anguish, and after capturing Phasma, she splits off, leaving Han, Finn and Chewie to the sabotage while she rescues Rey. Aliana finds Rey much as Ren left her, staring blankly off into space, unresponsive to the world around her, her presence in the Force a single prolonged wail of agony. Aliana uses commlinks to coordinate with the rest of the team to regroup at the Falcon, and throws Rey over her shoulders. Somewhere in here, Han dies as in the original, and Ren leaves Finn and Chewie to pursue Aliana and Rey. One retcon that would need to be made here is to either remove Aliana and Ren's previous confrontations or change them to be less one-sided, because when Aliana sees Ren, she carefully places Rey down, and then proceeds to absolutely fucking thrash Ren. Their other duels had been what happened when a Sith didn't want to deal with you, this was what happens when a Sith wants you dead. Ren spends the entire duel on the desperate defense, barely keeping himself alive as Aliana bears down on him with the rage of a thousand stars, maybe even taking an arm at the end. Either way, between his injuries and the base going up in flames, Ren makes his move to escape, and Aliana starts to pursue when she senses Rey again. As Aliana carried Rey, she had latched onto Aliana's presence, something vaguely familiar that she had clung to like a child with a blanket, and now that Aliana was gone, Rey has fallen back into her internal scream. With a scream of frustration, Aliana abandons her pursuit and returns to Rey, picking her back up and making good their escape.

On the flight back to the base, Aliana uses the Force to enter Rey's mind, trying to save her. The last pieces of Rey are curled up in the deepest reptilian corner of her mind, operating on pure animal instinct. She senses the intrusion and shies away, knowing more pain is about to come. But eventually, she notices that this presence is different. It is calm, patient... sad. It does not force itself upon her, rather keeping its distance, radiating sympathy and a desire to help. Slowly, Rey recognizes the presence as the one that had been there when she was so alone, but also as the one that had lied to her. Rey is conflicted, confused, scared, but the other understands, it is sorry, and it simply offers to help. Cautiously, Rey finally reaches out, and Aliana pulls her back to her conscious mind. Rey awakens in Aliana's embrace, and they weep for both grief and relief. Finn and Chewie arrive to share in the somber celebration, but Rey's senses have awoken, and she can tell that there is more than grief for her in the room, Chewie in particular barely suppressing roiling waves of anger and sorrow. Then she notices who isn't here and asks where Han is, and Finn breaks the news. Rey falls silent, looking to the floor as sorrow and fear wash over her, but then she finds the spark of something else deep inside her: hate. Aliana leans in, whispering into Rey's ear to cling to it, to nourish it, and when the time comes, they will make Ren suffer, together.

@A_Callow_Youth : That would be an excellent scene, but it also requires a much better story and a much better writer.

If Lily were to incorporate that into TSR, it wouldn't be about a character's harrowing experience and trauma, it would be about how Aliana is SO COOL YOU GUYS, sweeping in to save Rey. The fundamental problem here is that it completely deprives Rey of any agency in this moment-- which is a wonderful device, properly implemented, but the entire story thus far has been Aliana stealing Rey's agency, and the story from here on out will continue to do so.

Rey basically accomplishes nothing until the necessary scene where Aliana is hurt later; up until then, Aliana is completely driving her forward. Why does she leave Jakku? Aliana. Why does she go see Luke? Aliana. Why does Luke agree to train Rey? Because Aliana pesters him while Rey stands around like a plank of wood. Aliana wins battles on her own while Rey cheers from the sidelines. The one time Rey does accomplilsh something is in highly contrived circumstances, and both before and after that point she is defined almost entirely by being attached to Aliana, orbiting Aliana, or fretting over Aliana.

To have Aliana so integral to this particular scene would only be a lateral move, and with the way Kylo is treated throughout the rest of the story it would still come across less as a villain losing his patience and more as a man pushed to the brink by rampant disrespect taking his anger out on the nearest thing-- less about evil and more about frustration.

To 'fix' the issue here Kylo Ren as a character has to be treated entirely differently. Throwing in half-hearted 'lol I sure hate gay people for some reason' asides isn't enough. Lily has, by making Ren the object of scorn from the galaxy itself, inadvertently made Kylo the most sympathetic character in the story. Aliana is just a power fantasy that only one person can enjoy; Rey is an accessory to her; none of the good guys have any personality outside of Aliana. All of her villains become exclusively interested in Aliana between their interest in shitting on Kylo Ren.

And Kylo Ren?

He's the victim of constant, endless bullying. We're never shown why this is. He's ostensibly a high-ranking officer in the First Order, and it's implied that he's something to be feared. But every scene with him, he's being disrespected-- by his peers, by his superior, and even by the grunts. Nobody respects him. He's the butt of every joke. And there's nothing about him that explains why this is; he just comes across as a bullied nerd that everybody mocks because he's an easy target. The universe itself hates Kylo Ren. Nobody on the planet has been a superpowered Sith Lord, but just about everybody who would be reading this story can relate to being bullied. Kylo doesn't come across as a villain, he's a victim, a man who nobody takes seriously just trying to prove himself but denied at every opportunity not because of his own failings, but because the universe conspires to hate him.

I have no opinion on Kylo Ren as a character, but Lily's interpretation of Kylo Ren? I feel bad for him.

Good points all around, I was very much just handling the last act in isolation, without thinking backwards onto what this would do if it was plopped on top of TSR as it exists. I'm one of those people that leans towards the "no bad ideas, only bad executions" interpretation of storytelling (though I'm not entirely prepared to die on that hill), and I guess the conclusion I've finally reached is that there could be something in this setup that would at least surpass the movie. It's not exactly "there's a good story buried in here somewhere", more "you had a premise with potential and completely fucked it up". Tell you what, if I ever make a bet on the Farms, my stakes will be to rewrite the Force Awakens part of TSR into something worth reading.
