Iris and Kiera - Time
Kiera was giggling as she stumbled into her and Iris' bedroom, her face flushed and her neck sporting several hickeys. She'd spilled something down the front of her prom dress, and Iris wasn't convinced she was still sober.
"You missed the best dance ever!" Kiera exclaimed, flopping down onto Iris' bed.
Iris set her book down and set up, tilting her head.
"It was great! Loud music, bright lights, it was like getting assaulted by a firework's show!" Kiera giggled, laying her head on Iris' lap.
Iris smiled and gently drummed her fingers over Kiera's shoulder.
"Nah, I'm just tired and had too much sugar," Kiera said.
Iris's fingers slid back to run through Kiera's hair.
"Oh it was great!" Kiera sighed. "Larisa was so pretty. She was in this beautiful blue dress, and she had her hair down but also up at the same time, she looked like Cinderella."
Iris' smile widened and she twirled Kiera's hair around her finger.
"Definitely. I think I'm in love. You should have come with us. It would have been great."
Iris' smile faltered slightly. She never went to dances. They were too loud and noisy. And even being able to stay by Kiera the entire time wouldn't abate the painful migraine that school sound systems always gave her. Still that hadn't stopped Kiera asking. Every time a dance rolled around, Kiera would ask if she was coming. She always said no, and Kiera wouldn't ask again until the next dance.
Sometimes she wished she could stomach the experience. Time spent with Kiera was time cherished. But it was just too much for her.
Kiera sat up and looked at her sister. "Wanna go get ice cream?"
Iris tilted her head.
"Larisa had to leave early, otherwise I'd say all three of us should go," Kiera said. "C'mon, let's go get ice cream. Fancy ice cream! The kind you celebrate with!"
Iris arched her brow.
"You'll be getting ice cream with me, and that's worth celebrating," Kiera said, getting up and taking Iris' hand. "C'mon! My treat!"
Iris smiled and let Kiera pull her out of bed. Ice cream sounded nice. Like she said, time spent with Kiera was time cherished.
