The problem is meaning of words again. The fun discussion held here about 'politics' in games is about a variety and number of levels of sociopolitical commentary that can be read in narratives of a game. Some are put there as obvious allegory and some more philosophical and critical in that they challenge existing beliefs or point out hypocrisies. A total absence can also have meaning. Most of the examples given here do this through gameplay, which imho is the best type of game (where the gameplay is part of the narrative, and not something separate to it).

When Jim says 'political' he means related to American state politics, or rather, party dogma and ideology. The difference is Jim's 'political' does not show, it tells. It explicitly tells us what is right and wrong, and by inference suggests you must be wrong too if you disagree. I find people that do this ignores the uses and limits of their medium and skill and craft needed to make something, resulting in a bad product.
A good example is Star Trek, because older series did it the "good" way and the new series' do it the "bad" way.

Old Star Trek, such as TNG and TOS, had a plethora of episodes with issues, such as two different species being in a war, or the Enterprise encountering a new planet and discovering they have unsavory beliefs and culture. The response was always calm and collected, understanding that these groups had not had the exact cultural heritage of the Federation, and that therefore they had a right to their beliefs which should be respected. The famous Kirk v Gorn begins with a Gorn attack on a Federation colony, ending with Kirk declaring he will not kill the Gorn because they believed they were being invaded by the Federation. It's a display of intense mercy and a will to find peaceful solutions even to a fearsome and loathsome creature. Both sides are at fault, both are in the right, both move on with a new found trust.

New Trek, especially the Picard show, literally takes us back to 2024 to lambaste the audience and society for the wrong beliefs. Coincidentally, the origin of the Federation is in the riots that occured in 2024, alongside issues that are hot-button political topics today. Perfect for hack writers to insert their pet beliefs; ICE is portrayed like the Gestapo, climate change is poisoning Earth (to the point the sky is green), everywhere looks like Skid Row, LA (because that's where they filmed), evil bad corporations run everything, the Federation is instead the Confederacy (and also a Nazi state), etc. No nuance. The show takes great pains to blame the main character for almost everything, even when what is occuring is not in his control or the result of "alternate" universes. There are lots of monologues from characters that sound like Twitter threads on the state of Earth. There is no dialogue with anyone of the opposing team, to the point that characters who were once incredibly diplomatic can and will simply murder and execute others with impunity.

No one cares for this. Outside of being oppression porn for very specific, highly political audiences, it just comes across like an extended campaign ad for a hack politician. It doesn't even appeal to those who agree with the writers but happen to live outside of California because most of the issues being shown are hyper specific to Los Angeles only.

I can't help but think that Jim would be better served by media that actually attempts to reasonably portray differing views. Jesus Strikes Back 2: The Resurrection is fun for five minutes. It's more fun watching journalists kvetch and give it more attention than it deserves than actually playing the game. Seeing "you are correct" on a screen for a few hours does not help anyone. My views and rational thinking is not improved by positive reinforcement, and worse, it can make the opposing side look better because of how ridiculous the premise is. You can be so on the nose that your message becomes the opposite; my chief complaint with Detroit: Become Human is that it's so on the nose and boring outside of playing as Connor that I ended up rooting for the android massacre, especially seeing as Markus is closer to a virus than someone with actual autonomy and sentience. It's also incredibly childish to reduce your views to "me good, them bad"- anyone with half a brain is going to find out that your enemy isn't stupid or evil, they are normal people with reasons for their views, and are going to find an explanation from an enemy more compelling than dogma from a friend.

The RTS genre (rip) and 4X are great examples of politics in games that aren't preachy. Most resolve around exploitation of some finite resources which can bring you into conflict with others.

One 4X back in the day (I forget it's name) let you increase production through burning more and more resources, that generated more pollution depending how much you used. If you went too far with the pollution the sea levels rose (and would destroy your cities and units) and the ecosystems slowly collapsed wrecking your food supply chains for example. It could also be used as a weapon though if your cities were on high ground you could go full wreck the planet and have their cities drown. Though you ended up with a wasteland that was super hard to even survive in.

It was a balance between keeping up with the other factions so they wouldn't get all the resources and leave you for dead whole also not running out of resources or wrecking the planet.

There is an obvious message there (I wouldn't usually call managing resources and pollution political but like everything else it got made it). There were no pop ups telling you that you're very naughty for drowning the world, just the consequences of doing so. That is how you do "messages" in game, make them part of gameplay.

Remember when he made a video about how Dark Souls is political and it was supposed to be like a big gotcha moment for all the people who disagreed with him, except it doesn't really work because Dark Souls never tries to make you fully agree with anything and leaves it all up to you to even read about anything that would qualify as politics in item descriptions.
absolute classic of a video

It's like saying Crusader Kings is political. Yes, there are political issues at play, but they are not the focus of the game, they are merely a stage to explain the layout of the world. It's like saying that a shopkeeper killing a thief is political- they might have been running for congress, but that doesn't make the killing politically motivated or a political statement. It is merely incidental.

The impetus of your quest in Dark Souls is your saviour giving you the chance to escape your prison, and you want to help fulfill his quest after he dies in doing so. Your motivation is clear- a favor for a favor, as you might want to investigate the murder of a boy to satisfy a friend's dying wish. Uncovering the plot by the President to hide his cannibal tendencies was not intended, and doing so is not political. Even if you completely disagree with Frampt, you have an impetus to undertake his quest- Lordran is filled with chaos, demons, undead, it is an unsafe place for those with sanity left. The only possible way to live in this world is to sit back and go hollow, or to move forward and purge the world of all that you can, up to and including Gwynn. Taking the place of the Lord of Light or Lord of Dark is not a political decision, it is an inevitable outcome- you either bring order to the chaos and disappear or you are the most powerful being in existance. You are hailed by the Primordial Serpents in the latter decision, but the story ends, there is no depiction of whether or not you decided to take that spot, the Serpents simply bestow it upon you. The headcannon where you just walk away is completely plausible.

I have IBS you do not see me fucking shoving my bad guts in everyones face.
There's some respected Twitter idiots intellectuals I've posted screenshots of on here who literally have this listed in their profile alongside all their other social justice identities. It was reading a 35 tweet thread of gibberish by someone whose qualifications were "they/them, biqueer, ADHD, IBS, 18+" that I realized that capitalism may have some downsides potentially.

Jim is too stupid to differentiate between "political", as in exploring moral and existential philosophies and "political", as in ramming your personal party politics down the audiences throat. This is why people don't mind stuff like star trek TNGs politics but think the new picard series is hamfisted with it straight up just whinging about ICE in the show.

Lost 72 subs in a week. Only down 87 bucks, but it does look like those 1-2 buck subs aren't gonna stick around.
I don't think Jim is going to see a real drop in his patreon donations for a while yet as long as he keeps shitting out videos that some people some how find enjoyable. Its likely that a majority of his patrons are giving a low amount while his diehard fans are the whales who are pumping in loads of money, so unless he suddenly switches to a wrassling channel I doubt we'll see a real significant drop in earnings for a while.

The coming market apocalypse will be a massive correction for all the patreon fagots but far more so these types that shit out crap and offer nothing in return for the subscription.

As soon as it becomes a choice between some YouTube fagot and making rent obviously the fagot gonna lose a sub. For most the subscription is going to be very low on the priority list with non-necessities like a takeaway, cinema ticket, or Netflix/Disney+/Amazon subscription taking priority if it's a toss up. Especially when you can have the same experience for free and that experience is shit anyway. Consoomers can only consoom if they have money.

The patreon and onlyfans crash is incoming and we're going to get some glorious articles from journoscum and sperging from "creators" over that fact.

Very slight PL, but don't get your hopes up. Any sudden drops will be the result of their own stupidity, get ready for a long haul. Jim will have a while yet to invest in Funko Pops instead of a house.

Aaand here come the strawmen and false analogy. "Hurr I bet the people who don't like X really like Y".

Well:

1. Cheerleaders arent known for grooming kids, your fruity cult does that to reproduce.
2. Not everyone shares your coomery when it comes to that shit either.

Jim, the drag queen story hour was cancelled in a single town due to threats of violence https://www.advocate.com/pride/2022/6/07/drag-queen-story-hour-canceled-nc-town-due-violent-threats
The mayor of the town also came out in support of the LGBT community and was worried about the violent threats, not that he wanted to police trans people out of existence. He did not ban "drag in front of children" because he thought it was "sexual".
There were hundreds of comments on Mayor Gilbert’s Facebook post, some of them hateful, so he disabled comments on it Monday. “I will not tolerate disrespectful comments attacking others and hate speech on this page,” he wrote. He noted that he has “very close family members of the LGBTQIA+ community who I love dearly” and that he was the first Apex mayor to sign a Pride proclamation.
Also, drag queens are not your typical trans person. They do not try to pass as the other gender and they are outrageously flamboyant with costumes and innuendo, like the British tradition of a pantomime Dame... oh wait... now I know where I recognise Jim's outfits from - he's got completely mixed up with drag queens, pantomime Dames and regular trans people so he's dressing/acting like two of them and calling himself the third.
