To be honest, I always kinda felt like JJL would have a let down ending even when I began reading it. Mainly because Araki trying to tackle these big ass concepts despite most of his work being shonen with a capital S was a bad mix. But man...this was something else.

So what stand would win in a fight? Killer Queen, C-Moon, or WoU? Also, could D4C Love Train send "Calamity" to someone else?

After SBR and JJL I think we're in for another 3/5 style story, or at least I hope so. Alternate universe stands are cool but I miss the less alien looking punchy ghosts.

Wonder of U since it operates on logic if you try to pursue it you are fucked. Maybe Killer Queen could win only if Tooru pursues Kira. But I think Love Train and "Calamity" would be an interesting fight

Sorry for the doublepost but I just wanted to give my thoughts on Jojolion

Jojolion was a pretty great part. I really liked how it felt more character driven than the previous parts in a similar vein to Steel Ball Run. Gappy had a really interesting arc about wanting to find his identity and it sorta was heartwarming to see him overcome that to find his own identity in the world. A lot of the characters in the part were really great I really liked Yasuho and a lot of the Higashikatas (mainly Norisuke and Jobin, the others are pretty great). The antagonists themselves were mostly serviceable with standout exceptions (like Damo and Jobin), some of the minor ones were also really great like some of the guys in Damo's faction and the last two doctors before Wonder of U (Doctor Wu and Poor Tom) were pretty good.

The part is honestly a solid character story as Gappy was a great protagonist and I enjoyed his own journey. However the issues with the part really come out near the end with Tooru and the Wonder of U. Up till that point, the story seemed to be setting up Jobin as the main antagonist with Kaato and Tsurugi as his allies ever since chapter 55. It would make sense as from a thematic standpoint Jobin is a great foil to Josuke and what he wants as both Jobin and Josuke want to use the Rokaka to save a relative of their's with Jobin also wanting it to increase the power of the fruit parlor. Tsurugi too seemed to have evil qualities that Jobin was encouraging and was raising him in a way similar to how his mom raised him. This all got ruined when Tooru appeared as the last third of Jojolion was about fighting Tooru and the Wonder of U.

Tooru as a character has some interesting ideas and could've been a great main villain, his issue however is that he barely appears in the part and his plan is stupid. His plan was to essentially reign supreme in the medical world and establish some dominance for Rock Humans as well as to make money and be famous as shown in this panel:

His plan is really stupid because he could've actually been more successful if he helped out the Higashikata's since he could've looked good to them and the world that he helped out this successful fruit parlor and would've given him more clout.

It doesn't help before his villain reveal he was just Yasuho's creepy ex-boyfriend (that now makes him look worse with his true age) and he becomes the main villain at around chapter 97. His stand had much more presence than he does and he barely appears. He lacked a presence and while this part is different from a typical Jojo part, Araki gave Tooru the hallmarks of a regular main Jojo villain with how he:

- Has an OP stand
- Has connections to the protagonist's allies (Yasuho and Rai even if it was forced)
- Has a ideology which he monologues about

While I get Araki was doing something different with Tooru, he felt like a main villain that was shoehorned in with no presence at all. Jobin actually was more subversive if Araki went through with him since he was a normal family man who wanted to do what's best for his kid. Tooru was a very generic villain.

Wonder of U as a stand was a pretty cool stand and I liked all the artistic inspirations for him and the ability is fucking terrifying. It's actually fucking sad that the Wonder of U has more presence as a main villain than Tooru does. You could argue he could be looked at the same way as Diavolo/Doppio but those two would be easier to see them as one entity while with Tooru, his stand looks more like it has it's own independent thoughts so it's hard to see it and Tooru as one entity. (Really would've been better if Tooru was not related to the Head Doctor in anyway)

While the story was not about Josuke fighting him, the Wonder of U dragged down the last third where we could've had more with Josuke but it was about Josuke fighting them.

Overall Part 8 is a 8.5/10 and was still a really good part even with my gripes with it. Will now update my rankings compared to my last one where I went over SBR

Part Rankings: 6 > 7 > 4 > 8 > 5 > 3 > 1 > 2
Main Jojo: Jolyne > Johnny = Gappy > Josuke > Jotaro > Joseph > Jonathon > Giorno
Main Villain: Funny Valentine > Pucci = Kira > Diavolo > Dio > Kars >>>> Tooru
Jobro: Gyro > Yasuho > Bruno > Mista = Polnareff > Speedwagon > Koichi = Okuyasu > Hermes > Kakyoin >>>>>>>> Caesar

>ranking caesar last

this is a war crime
Caesar literally only has a tragic death scene going for him. His character was just Joseph but more of an asshole and his entire relationship with Joseph felt forced since they barely bonded, and when they had moments together it was the same moment of Caesar saving Joseph and then quipping. Gyro does a much better job conveying what Araki was trying to with Caesar.

I like how jojolion broke people and they are still coping with the it doesn't need to have answer and it doesnt need to have a good ending or even my favorite from faggot beat aka: trust the plan arakibros!
Then there are the "High IQ" Redditors/Twitterfags that act like Araki made the most subversive villain in manga history and is too subtle for everyone else and the only reason people don't like him is because they just wanted another DIO.

It really goes to show how 4chan and Kiwifarms are better places to discuss media nowadays.

The most retarded take I’ve seen is that Kaato, the Fun Fun Fun stand user from like Chapter 5, and Kei Nijimura returning to the story after being absent (and then immediately getting killed) is some galaxy-brain play that proves that Araki didn’t forget.

Bringing back one-off characters who SHOULD be important by nature of who they are and their relationships with the other characters but don’t actually do anything for the bulk of the story, only to suddenly come back, do something to advance the plot, and get killed off is not good writing, and if anything shows that he had no idea what the fuck to do with them in the first place. Fuck off with that “Araki remembered!” bullshit.

These are the same retards who think that fucking Flashback Man’s identity being revealed in the last chapter despite having appeared once in the very beginning of the manga and never being mentioned again would be interesting and necessary.

The most infuriating part is that I get what Araki was going for because its fucking obvious. Miracles will always come with a greater cost than what you gave up for it.

Wow, galaxy brained take there Araki, too bad you completely fucked up the execution so badly that even the jojotards who enjoy anything as long as it is tagged with a Jojo label are struggling to say good things about it without just making shit up.

@Gar For Archer

With some of the characters returning, Ojiro worked since he was a catalyst to show how far gone Jobin has become and how willing he’d go to achieve his goals (if what he did in Ozon Baby was not enough)

But Kei and Kaato were definitely wasted characters. Kei could’ve been a character who helped out in Josuke’s journey with Kaato being an antagonist who assists Jobin similar to Kira’s dad in part 4. But after Blue Hawaii, Araki just changed the plot to be about fighting a bunch of doctors who came out of nowhere and had a weak connection to Damo’s Gang as an attempt to make things interwoven.

I usually don’t go with these copes but I feel there is some correlation to this downfall since Vitamin C and the fact Araki got a new editor. I’m not saying the editor is to blame for these changes but it shows how more inconsistent things were in the second half of the story (like retconning Rock Human biology, the whole Doctor shit, and the Flashforward).

I like how Rei and gappy sister both died like dogs in the hospital and the only mention they get is a yeah they died who cares lol
That happened with a lot of deaths in this part especially with Jobin and Kaato as well. Like holy shit the last third of the part really gets worse the more you think about it.

Not gonna lie, North Europe or Scotland really fits the name Jojolands. Its a nice place to end it, a reversal of the 1st universe that started in Europe, went to Morioh then ended in America. Also, even if its not his typebof music, if Araki makes stands that are references to notable European black and death metal bands/songs/albums, I will cum.

But if he does go through with it, that could also mean that the Rokakaka isn't only found in tropical islands.

I waited for 10 years till this finished to finally pick it up. I'd read up to about chapter 30 or so every couple of months, then just stopped because I wasn't enjoying it much. I kept rationalizing that I didn't need punchy fight ghosts all the time and that maybe he has a really good mystery that will make the lack of punchy fight ghosting, or even silly Part 4 Morioh adventures, worthwhile in the end.

As everyone's said, the first half is pretty good. I liked the mystery, I liked the reveals. That said, Josuke has no personality. The first personality with him being a fish out of water is just that... he's learning how to exist in the world, and he's weird, quirky, and goofy. That quickly melts away, and all of it is left in the first third or so. His autistic distance checking is just gone, and frankly I'm not even sure it's ever used in a fight. He becomes a blank slate, and I don't agree that "he doesn't leave anyone behind" is his personality like I've seen mentioned online. He also takes a back seat in a bad way to other characters that get far too much screen time in my opinion, like Yasuho. She wasn't very interesting, and having Josuke sitting in a room in a hospital for about a 10 chapters is just frustrating. That's about a years time with the monthly release schedule.

What happened to Soft and Wet being interesting? Eventually it became just "put things in bubbles", but at first it could steal the "essence" of something, like sound. It's just... dropped. It becomes so boring, and people constantly hark on and on about how limited Hamon is and it's good he's never brought it back, and yet he had a stand with tons of possible applications that he turns to a bubble thrower that moves something from A to B. Completely wasted.

My last big annoyance outside of the unsolved mysteries (as I think part 9 intends to address them to some degree) is that almost every stand in this is a remote stand. They're so often just running away from an attack, trying to find the body of the user. That happens over, and over, and over. I shouldn't be wanting the fights to end in JoJo of all things. I shouldn't prefer the character moments in between completely. They should be somewhat equal at the very least, but nope. Here's this character running from a stand attack. Here's this one running from another stand attack. Just looking back through the stand list, it's just so much running through the streets.

just finished reading part 8. ehhhh, it was ok. kinda lost interest after Vitamin c arc. you could tell araki just wanted to finish the story and move on by that point. i liked gappy at first but it seems like he lost some of his character after awhile and just became whatever akari needed him to be at the moment. he didint even use soft and wet in any cool ways after awhile. you think having the ability to remove concepts from things and people would be OP but he more used it just to carry stuff around.

honestly Jobin and his mon should have played a bigger role being the end antagonists and the wonder of u could have still been the final boss pulling things from the shadows trying to have both groups kill themselves off. i think this is the first time i disliked a main jojo villain.

Jojolion is part 9. Don't sully SBR by even comparing it to JJL.

But yeah, pretty much agree with the overall opinion of the thread. Part 9 was a waste that went downhill 2/3 the way in.
I liked Gappy's silly personality at first, but then he went full stoic serious man.
