For years I thought that he was just some has been from the 80’s desperate to keep a dead career alive.

Not to say this is you, but if you only watch videos from the likes of Karl, Muta, Charlie, etc, then it's perfectly reasonable to think that because that's the impression they give. Gaming really is a hobby to this guy at this point - something he probably tries to make some time for when you have some time away from working or running a money making business. For a lot of people in their 30s or older, that's probably very relatable.

And his detractors are all terminally online spergs to whom their leaderboards are the be-all and end-all and they want his head on a spike.

And this is the impression you get once you look at the same situation from outside of that lens. It's fucking cringe, and makes you want to go outside and do something else, anything to avoid being like that. And at that point you probably don't even care whether or not he cheated because you realize it does nothing to you, or anyone else for that matter, decades later. Outside of that bubble, nobody gives a shit anymore.

Games, especially from the earlier era that these speedruns are hyper focused, are meant to be fun and an escape, not the means to put yourself up because of numbers. Honestly being a speedrunner sounds miserable, having to play "your favorite" game over and over again to the point you probably hate it because it's not even remotely fun anymore after the 100th time within a month.

I know I am bringing this up again but I feel it is important to expand on the fact that the person that Yobst hand picked as his own star witness in the trial to support him, penguinz0, straight up didn’t even know what the lawsuit was actually about until after the judgement was served.

Not during the trial, nor anytime after it whatsoever.

He had to have the judge spoon feed it to him at the end to realize that the whole case was about Karl claiming Billy Mitchell contributed to Apollo Legend’s suicide. The retard even said publicly before the trial that he was “privy” to everything going on and didn’t want to talk about it to avoid leaking anything that could potentially jeopardize Karl's defense.

Here in his reaction video to the verdict, he says he thought it was a “slam dunk” and thought the entire case was about Billy suing Karl over the Donkey Kong cheating stuff. He also then relents and says, "There's no way he lost, I thought that was dead to rights but then again I didn't know what the full case was about".
It's not being unaware what the full case was about, it's solely being aware what the case was for, period.

And now Karl and his discord trannies are acting like everyone should’ve obviously known what this was about from the start? Fuck's sake even your own witness, someone you personally brought to support you had no idea what the fucking case was even about and believed it to be solely around cheating in Donkey Kong. If even he didn’t know, what chance did the average viewer or donor have?

Now I'm not going to suck the dick of assholes inflating the prices of unsealed retro video games but Karl does make some REALLY big claims like having Comic Book Investments in the video claim market manipulation, Heritage auction being really shady, grading company's being shady etc.
Now this whole market of grading unsealed shit and auctioning it off for a shit ton of money has infested all sorts of hobbies like even VHS tapes and I personally think there's some shady shit however I'm wondering if companies like Heritage or the grading companies will come at Karl now especially for shit like claiming market manipulation or collusion between grading companies and auctioneers? I know the video game collectors called Karl a fraud and didn't take legal actions (I think?) but now I'm wondering if the door for legal action will open up now?

For them it's probably more trouble than it's worth as it would dredge up a lot of bad practices in deposition. Karl probably did say some bullshit about them, but to his luck it was probably less egregious than anything they're doing behind the scenes. In Billy's case he had accused Billy of killing someone when the worst Billy did was being a dick and cheating at video games, there really wasn't anything that could be brought up about Billy that was worse than what Karl accused him of.

Way back I remember watching GDQ for the first time expecting them to do something interesting by playing the game really well, then I saw it and it was all glitches and skipping everything in the game as quickly as possible.
