Just some food for thought on the topic of how history will view trans kids as a social phenomena, the lobotomy (according wikipedia, so grain of salt and all that) took from 1935 when the lobotomy was first formally introduced to around 1970 when it was banned or seriously discouraged pretty much universally.

And it isn't like the lobotomy was universally approved of during this time period.

In fact, here's a quote that could probably apply to the trans kids issues with a couple word replacements:
