Our boy's thirty years old today!

Super Star might be a hard act to top, but the Kirby games are just fun stuff. Here's to a few more decades, you wonderful eldritch being of boundless hunger.

Despite naming myself after a Kirby minigame, I haven't played a new main series Kirby game since Amazing Mirror. Here's every Kirby game I've played my thoughts on them:

Dream Land: Loved it as a kid, but it's objectively the worst game in the series by modern standards.
Adventure: Fun, but Nightmare is literally the same thing but better.
Dream Land 2: Adventure, but not. A remake would be awesome.
Super Star: The best game I've played in the series.
Dream Land 3: Didn't really care for it, music aside.
64: Really fun, despite aging very poorly in a lot of ways.
Nightmare: Probably my second favorite Kirby game.
Amazing Mirror: Played it for half an hour and couldn't get into it. Maybe the beginning just sucks.

Based on this, which games should I try? I know everyone has a boner for Planet Robobot, but I never hear anyone talk about Triple Deluxe or Star Allies. I didn't even know Star Allies existed until I looked up a list for this post.
Since no one else has brought it up, maybe look at Squeak Squad on the DS. It has a lesser version of the power combo system from 64 (not everything can be mixed), and I remember enjoying it. I did play it on actual hardware though, so if you're running an emulator I can't vouch for how that's going to work with its brand of touch controls.

If nothing else, I love the Squeak Squad’s character designs.

@Vyse Inglebard How about you go fuck yourself, nigger. Squeak Squad is a ton of fun.
Hard disagree. To be completely fair, it WAS my introduction to the series as a young lad, but after playing the other games and going back to it recently....it's just....there. Squeak Squad ain't bad by any stretch, but looking past the nostalgia factor, it's just entirely forgettable between not really having an interesting defining gimmick and super short levels. Credit where credit is due, I do like the major upgrade on the rewards you get from chests, and the interaction with the environments is cool, if underutilized, but yeah, aside from those, Squeak Squad is easily one of the lesser mainline entries in the series.

Speaking of Kirbo, on the verge of completing Forgotten Land. After years of samey 2D platformers (aside from Robobot of course), all I can say is.....

HAL nailed the transition to 3D, and have made me excited about Kirby again. Any tips on how to beat Chaos Elfilis, though? Motherfucker's tough. :o

Hey, fair enough. It's been years since I had played it. I'd rather have an average Kirby game than a bad one, but I don't know if any of them are outright bad.

Kirby is one of those few series that has consistent quality throughout. I recall people weren’t too thrilled with Rainbow Curse when it came out, but looking at videos of the game, holy shit the claymation is beautiful. And the game over screen is absolutely adorable. The game and Super Star are the only games in general that I can think of that show you a pleasant image if you to choose to quit at a Game Over screen.

Some people are extremely averse to fun and simultaneously complain that Nintendo keeps making the same game while crying that each release isn't exactly like the game they like.

And those people are the ones that hate Breath of the Wild. Some of them post here. Maybe even in this very thread.

And they are niggers.

The thing I like about Kirby is that the overall quality of the games is pretty good even at its worst. And the top games are excellent. But because the series isn't Mario they can play around with the gameplay and formula a whole lot more. If you roll yourself back in time you can see Nintendo using Kirby games in particular to test out all sorts of ideas that eventually find their way into other games that wouldn't necessarily have been an appropriate vehicle to try an idea for the first time.

Fully upgraded sword, hammer and ranger are popular and you'll want to be good at dodging.

BOTW niggers seemingly can't help themselves from bringing it up everywhere. You guys are getting as bad as vegans at this point.

Squeak Squad isn't bad per se but you can tell they were at a point in the franchise where they were just throwing shit at the wall to see what stuck (most importantly the 4-ish new abilities that were in Squeak Squad but never appeared again).

I've played every mainline Kirby game except for Rainbow Curse and arguably the weakest could be Dream Land 3 but only if you're trying to get every heartstar, it can get pretty irritating. Probably the most difficult (again, if you're doing 100%) was Dream Land 2, some of those Rainbow Drops are hard as balls to get, and the true final boss was tricky too.

Also the game over screen for Kirby Mass Attack scared me as a child, it's the only one that outright is like "You fucked up, Kirby is dead".

Oh I remember Kirby Mass Attack that game was awesome! It was a lot of fun.

Dreamland 3 was great, but those fucking memorization puzzles really brought the whole thing down for me. I could tolerate the other heartstar related stuff as they involved the game's core mechanics, but the stuff involving memorization and counting are just annoying. Especially when you have to redo the level every time you fail.

Only really watched Mass Attack via videos, but the soundtrack is amazing. Plus seeing a horde of mini-Kirbies wreak havoc was amusing to watch.

You were right. The dodge with the Morpho Knight sword made that fight much easier, and I finally beat that sum'bitch. With that, I am officially done with Forgotten Land. If you think I'm gonna waste my time with those gacha figures....no. I know you have to get all of them for 100% completion, but again....no. I just don't really have the time. I feel pretty fulfilled with Forgotten Land already

I would literally just film my screen to cheat at those puzzles, it beats playing the same level over and over again.

Smarter than what I did. I just paused the game several times (it was the Dream Collection version) and wrote down what sounds each Gordo made. Everything else I did the hard way.

Anywho, as someone who started with and played the heck out of 64 as a kid with no knowledge of the other games, I recall being quite surprised to find that Kirby's buddy Waddle Dee was actually the series equivalent to a goomba in pretty much every other game. Can't help but wonder what the creative decision making was that made it so you didn't fight other Waddle Dees in that game.

Unsure if you already did this. But his moveset is pretty predictable. The toughest block is the giant meteor attack but once you figure out that there is a safe space all the way on the periphery, you're good. Did anyone else get 100% completion on this game? It was not too difficult to accomplish, but was still rewarding.
