I used to lift weights. I really love it, it feels great. However, I had to stop because I did end up 'bulky'. I understand why so many women repeat the mantra "Women can't get bulky lifting weights unless they're actually trying to bulk up!". It's true, you won't look like a body builder unless you're actively trying to. But I must admit, I'm a bit annoyed at how so many women repeat this and completely dismiss any woman that expresses concerns about getting bulky.
I don't know why, but I put on muscle easily on my back and arms. As someone who is an inverted triangle, this freaking sucks. No, I don't look jacked like LeanBeefPatty (who I think looks great btw) but I still look 'bulky' and I definitely don't like that look.
So, I stopped lifting heavy, as much as I liked it, and now I do mostly yoga and body weight fitness. I have tried several times to get back into lifting heavy but I always end up unhappy with how I look after a couple of months.
