I don't struggle with 30kg :smug: And I'm an oldfag, too. It's not hard. Just lift and become stronger 🤷‍♀️

edit: on a completely serious note, my fitness goal is to look like this lady when I hit my 70s. I'm currently past 40 and have a nice smm of almost 29kg.

Damn she seems cool as fuck. Goals.

I'm glad to see a female fitness thread, I shall hang around. Right now I'm just interested in meeting activity target recommendations but I'd love to work up to free weight strength training.

So many people fall into this retarded mindset that after age X your body just randomly deteriorates and you should just accept it as a normal part of aging, as if sitting on your ass for 40 years somehow crept up on you without your consent.

Everybody wants to stay out of a care home, but nobody want to lift no heavy-ass weights.

I knew a woman once who was literally 90 years old and called other people in her neighborhood "old" when they were like 20 years younger than she was. This was because she was still fit enough to do chores, go for walks every day, and wipe her own ass; and they were not.

Do any of you do b-stance rdls or single leg hipthrusts? Would you recommend them? I only really do the normal versions but was thinking of implementing them to change things up. :\

for the weightlifting kiwis here, do you pay mind to your menstrual cycle? like not doing prs during luteal phase and so on. Or do you think doing that is a dumb idea?

I do because I don't stop training, but have a "weak week" from approximately day 7-14 of my cycle where I just have zero energy and either can't hit or struggle with the previous weeks weights.

I saw a thread about this on an instagram reel and it seems a weak week is very common, but when in the cycle varies, I didn't see many others say the week after their peirod was the worst, most said being on it was.

Just praying I never have a weak week during a competition though. That won't go well at all.

If your strength is imbalanced (on most of us), they are needed to strengthen your non-dominant side. I like them.
nice.:) Do you also do them with barbell? Or just dumbells?

Ill add them, since the only unilateral lower body excercise i do atm is bulgarian splits squats (ouch.)

I'm a home gym looser so just use dumbbells. Would imagine a lot more effective with barbells. Make sure your technique is right, though.
Thanks;)ill try doing them with barbells like i do with normal rdls and hipthrusts, see how it feels. Dumbells are good too tbh, every jacked guy i see at my gym trains his chest and shoulders with them, unlike the skinny dudes that only touch the cable machines. And tbh theyre great for split squats.

Cable machines are excellent for shoulders and chest / torso exercises, though. I absolutely recommend doing cable crossovers and lat raises regularly. I just love pulling that weight with all I got 😇 It's obviously a more isolated way of training where barbells make use of additional muscles (burn those calories!!) and require greater skill.
Cable machines definitely have their merits, imo, and they're fun!

Has anyone ever had success shifting to a morning workout from an afternoon one and sticking with it long term? I keep trying and keep failing.

My gym's an absolute zoo after work, but very relaxed in the mornings so I can get my routine done much quicker. But I end up so tired during the day afterwards.

A couple times per year I'll give mornings a shot, but I always can only stick to it for ~2 weeks max before I sleep in and start the afternoon routine again instead.

UPDATE: I repeated the cycle yet again - a couple weeks of morning exercise, then I slept in and switched back to after work. I'm stuck in a lolcow cycle of my very own.

Unrelated, but I've hit some personal bests recently, and my hands are getting callused to heck. Do y'all wear gloves? Have a secret powerful moisturizer? Am I just using my hands incorrectly?

Come on, don't be a lolcow. Get your shit together and treat yourself to those gains!

I use gloves for dumbell/barbell exercises because you don't want those to slip out of your hands once you lift heavier. My gloves also have additional wrist supports because I have weak ligaments and I don't enjoy injuries. I can recommend moisturizer for climbers, that stuff really makes your hands look brand new!

Both.
I use gloves for heavy weights, and I don't use gloves for lower weight or when I use body weight because I need to work on my grip strength anyway.
(I also use gloves when something looks icky. Sometimes people don't wash their hands after going peepee.)
As for moisturizer:
  • O'keefe's Working Hands
  • Lanolin for cracks in hands and feet
  • Lotion bar for cuticles and days when I wash my hands too much

totally8) i love doing shoulders and lat raises there as well. triceps also. everything has its place tbh
also about the glove thing i personally dont wear gloves, only straps for heavy lifts. i do have a bit of calluses but they go away everytime i shower. but gloves sound like a good idea especially if they're comfier for you

I love weightlifting and I got a bit bulky since 2018, but it’s hard to be accountable to work out and know what to do. So I use a lot of fitness classes and personal training to keep me on track. It’s expensive, I know. Right now I’m really digging Orangetheory for cardio and looking for a new trainer to come to my place and give me an exercise prescription for my home setup.

I think being strong is great. I can carry what i need, my body does what I want it to and I’m less likely to get injured if I fuck up and fall on my ass. Lifting helps with bone density too.

I think women’s aversion to the weight rack is self-limiting. Don’t cut yourself out of such an important component of exercise! Feel the Chad within freeing himself with every rep!

I just joined a gym for the first time in my life. I decided on the YMCA and so far it's been great. It's a seemingly older crowd which I like. I'm focusing on cycling and group classes until I get a feel for things.
