Linus Gabriel Sebastian & Linus Media Group / Linus Tech Tips - Narcissistic corporate shill YouTuber driving his media empire into the ground. KILL COUNT: 2

Linus Media Group 'Head of Business Development' Colton recalling an interview that Linus did, here's Linus interviewing a potential employee - "Alright... are you into beastiality? Do you watch beastiality?"

If this is just such a nonchalant thing to say at the workplace, we've only just scratched the surface.

Stop it hater, this is a totally normal question asked by any HR person! Listen and believe, buy more Chinese crap and turn off the adblock!

I've seen some people throwing around the idea of only taking patreon and viewer money. Which at face value is a good idea: after all, the viewers will naturally want the most accurate info possible, right? Theoretically, yes. In practice, no. If your viewers over time become majority vocal Nvidia fanboys who hate AMD more than anything, but AMD then releases a brand new GPU product line that blows Nvidia out of the water (stay with me here, it's just a thought experiment)... well, you have a lot of incentives to either stay quiet and don't review the new Team Red GPUs, or emphasize any downsides, real or imaginary, compared to Team Green. Why? Because if you don't, you risk upsetting your fanbase, and upsetting your fanbase means less money in your pocket.
Personally I think making YouTube content for a living is stupid and the platform became much worse when people started trying to make videos for money instead of for fun, so I wouldn't care if it stopped paying out either way.

Anyway you're right about informing your audience of any conflict of interest. There's no way to mitigate the effects of a conflict of interest when it comes to an endorsement, but you can at least do the right thing and let your audience know so they can take that into account when deciding whether to trust your word or not. That's all there really is to it.

I see why you would believe this, but I simply do not agree. Despite GN's best intentions, he fact is that they are taking money from these companies whose products they review.
Coreteks has not demonstrated any conflict of interest in his video and likely deliberately lied to make his point about the cooler.
Additionally, he asked people to demonstrate that his weird CDKey sponsor is problematic. That's a double standard, he failed to demonstrate a conflict of interest despite (again, likely) cherrypicking a description of the term that was broad and in his favour.

If he doesn't know CoI differs depending on industry, he probably never had a substantial role outside of making youtube videos. He reminds me of those breadtube types with their "thou shalt not commit fallacies" posters.

Terms like "fraud, scam, slander, conflict of interest, puppet etc" are the new "logical fallacies".

I think they could solve this by simply not reviewing products that sponsor them. If Steve is trustworthy, and tells you that he has no problem using xyz for his personal use, then would you trust him?
I think real estate brokers can solve this by not advertising properties.
I think fashion magazines can solve this by not shilling Gucci and Chanel.
I think Forbes can solve this by dropping their pay to play search engine indexing shill articles. (This one is really bad.)

>Personal use, then would you trust him?
No.

We're talking about feelings and potential brand loyalty here.

If I tell you the PBS tools I use is the best, would you trust me? Yes? You shouldn't. I use their stuff because they have a really good return policy, actual lifetime warranty and focus on real environmental issues, while being true to the locals. Is this worth 10x the price of an alternative? Probably not.

The fact is, PBS tools are often objectively the best, however, they only outperform competitors that are 5 times cheaper by a tiny margin. It's not worth the money but I will never stop recommending them.
lol.jpg
Oh look, 3lbs advantage but MORE THAN 3 times more expensive. I can wreck 3 from that Chinese made one and have an extra $12.

There's far more to consider than "I use and like it". I don't care about you, I need to see if it suits me.

This is why accepting sponsors from irrelevant companies to their channel's main functional doesn't bode with many, including me.

Also, where are you going to draw the line? If they come out now and drop all sponsors, only being donor and merchandise funded, would you trust them?

They were sponsored before and paid hugely, right? The boat has sailed. I have a feeling that Coreteks will not care, it's clearly personal. He ignored all their updates and went straight to (likely intentional) cherrypicking.

I would love for relevant sponsors to be dropped but I would also like to see more facilities for better testing, none of which are cheap. Do you think they're striking a balance, or is it really black and white? It's fine, I hold some extreme views too... (lol)

Counterpoint: if GN never accepted sponsorships for components, then nobody would be able to accuse them of being paid shills. Being supported by their own merchandise, adrev, and patreon would cause no problems, and you would be able to trust them.
And if they never shilled/grifted, they won't be large enough with several employees, numerous testing workflows, and enough push to actually contest and spook the bigger companies such as LMG, Asus, MSI, Intel, AMD and Nvidia.

We wouldn't be enjoying this dumpster fire either. If GN was just Coreteks calling out LTT, they'll get dogpiled in the same manner. Instead of just LTT being a monopoly, we have maybe 5, a decent balance for non-technical people.

Now for some Windows Keys autism. Coreteks wanted people to demonstrate that his sponsor is problematic. He uses SCDKeys.
If you want to check keys, just google "PID Key checker".

There are many types of keys, most which are stolen/hacked.
Cheapest - MAK:
(Different types of) Multiple activation key. These are usually stolen from leaked emails. Sometimes, companies will sell them as a means of money laundering. In certain regions, setting up an education institution is as easy as an ebay store, people would do that to obtain MAKs and launder money, which is even worse than leaked MAKs.
Cheap - Retail: Microsoft practices "price discrimination". A legitimate key from countries like China or India is far cheaper than what we pay for. Windows would rather have $5 from less affluent users who still doesn't want to steal than $0. As far as I know, Coreteks' sponser simply purchase keys from these countries and sell them at a markup. This is sort of like an arbitrage trade.

So SCDkeys are legit keys. Whether you think what they're doing is ethical or not is beyond the point.

Just pirate Windows because fuck microsoft. Leaving it unactivated works too, Microsoft doesn't want people using MacOS or Linux, that's the point.
If you really want to be a cheapskate, visit a junkyard and gather windows 7/8/10 keys from trashed PCs. Those are legitimate retail keys for nothing.

What I find funny is tech shrek's disappearance. Because doubtless he is still being paid by Linus' heckin progressive trans pozitive company. What is funny about this is that it directly contradicts what Linus said about spending an extra two or three hundred dollars of people's time to make sure his video was accurate. I suppose if you were extraordinarily charitable you may be of the opinion that tech shrek's absence is a completely legitimate unpaid sabbatical.

Apparently they're gonna do a WAN show tomorrow. Gonna be spicy.
Outstanding, I hadn't dared to hope they would actually go through with it. All I've seen of the WAN show is the 'hard r' incident, if that's anything to go on Linus has the perfect combination of stupidity and obliviousness to tunnel himself right into the core of the earth. The other guy literally won't be able to stop him.

This whole thing only happened because of Linus' ego. He could have hid behind "it's just entertainment bro" and no one would have really cared about the odd inaccuracy. But pouring money into the labs and then poking HUB and GN sealed it.

Monetizing and shilling in the "apology" video shows he doesn't and will never get it. He's scum through and through, and it's immensely satisfying to see his downfall.

@LiquidKid Sponsorblock and youtube vanced /youtube revanced etc have been a time-saving game changer, I haven't seen a youtube ad in like forever. Get sponsor block people who see this message I'm surprised Google hasn't removed the plugin yet.
They don't care about sponsor block because none of that money is coming their way. Thus it stays up.

Coreteks has not demonstrated any conflict of interest in his video and likely deliberately lied to make his point about the cooler.
Coreteks is a gay nigger who is unable to recognize his shit sponsor deals are because he's not good at anything. His complaints about GN would be a million times more relevant if he didn't make content a million times worse than GN. Someone here brought up a great point that just because GN shows numbers, doesn't mean he can't make some deltas seem more valuable than they should be. And that's totally something to watch out for. But, once again, Coreteks is a gay nigger who can't succeed at what he spends all of his time doing.

To those saying GN should just cut off any sponsor deals for products he reviews, I ask you how he is supposed to buy test devices and hire staff then? Fucking redditors infiltrating the site trying to whore over drama and racing to deepthroat the biggest log of bullshit. He can take sponsorships and review shit products from those same sponsors because he's already done that repeatedly with fair results. The "wholly independent reviewer" schtick might be played up for credibility, but at the end of the day the legitimate criticism is overwhelmed by the "I've never really worked" mindset of absolute faggots.

I mean, maybe for his SIMP-tier audience. I've never had a comedian bring up FPS charts by GPUs. Temperature monitoring hardware wasn't a Simpsons episode (finally, the Simpsons didn't do it). They never brought up latency curves on The Wire or Breaking Bad.
If you're bringing up data that you have said you tested yourself, you're a review channel producing your own data (which Linus clearly wants to be seen as). You can simultaneously strive to be entertaining in different ways, doesn't have to be everyone's cup of tea, but this part doesn't absolve you from the reviewer part. Plenty of people rag on him for not liking him personally, but that doesn't hurt the way that his bread is ultimately buttered; people who like the funny ali-express product reviews or whatever are still clicking.
What hurts him is the other chunk of his audience that just wonders "how does this CPU/GPU/whatever compare to competitors" who often google it, get a LTT video and trust it. If that chunk of the audience realizes LTT is unreliable as far as data goes so one shouldn't consider them when doing a cost/benefit analysis for a new part, then I think that is a real threat to that core chunk of their audience. Whether that distrustful reputation really sticks will remain to be seen, I know it's been underdiscussed vs the cooler shit, but I hope the consensus shifts to making sure people realize there's better reviewers out there.
If you want to JUST be an entertainment channel than maybe don't present original data and talk about your whatever million dollar testing suite all the time. Don't present your words as proven, objective, well-tested facts when they're not. Here's the spoiler before this happens: he never will and he's going to hope this all blows over despite his shit response.

His complete lack of response and shit treatment of the cooler company really let GN tech Jesus nail Roman Governor Linus to the cross for a change. Ultimately, I don't hate Linus as much as think it's a shame that there's dozens or hundreds of people who could be running a better, more informative channel with the resources he has (also probably with less sexual assault violations).

Not to mention, a few of his very legitimate projects, INCLUDING the Artesian Build Scam videos were self funded. His 5k Alienware Vid? Self funded. I'm not saying everything should be or could be, but what he's done is because he was willing to push it, which says a lot more then Linus constantly shilling another company on top of his own chinkware.

GN makes some comments that LTT should have the resources to do better, but by this point in our capitalist society it should be clear that corporate entities exist largely based on their ability to rely on ties to other big players and ignore any mistakes they make, especially when these "mistakes" work in favor of themselves or their friends. Make no mistake yourself, this is real capitalism: the result of teaching the masses to believe in the political formula of "free markets".

You teach people that government is bad, and what happens? The government becomes unaccountable. You teach people regulated markets are bad, and what happens? Market players become unaccountable.

Teaching people that something true and inescapable is bad only serves to free it up from public influence to be a more reliable tool of those who are above recourse to abuse their now more exclusive understanding and influence as they will. This is the same with race and sex, very real things with tremendous implications for every person alive, now taught to be beyond consideration by any who are not on board with the powers that be, who very much understand the realities of race and sex, but naturally are comfortable with that understanding only being used to shape the world into a more secure place for itself.

What if you taught people that the state is good, that markets naturally form oligarchies? Or even just that those things are inevitable? Then they might accept enough of reality to learn how games of power work and be capable of collectively forming fronts against the big players, at least enough to cause problems for them. Instead people are filled with delusions that allow them to excuse themselves from taking part in decisive action.

Especially, and most fundamentally, the idea that violence is unjustified unless naked violence is first used against you. This allows players with great influence to destroy you using their typically ill got resources in "nonviolent" ways, and to claim any struggle on your part is illegal, and even when nonviolent, declaring it racist or fascist, or some form of threat to "our democracy" and making it illegal anyways, in fact or in practice. In truth, no action is wrong against an existential enemy. It's a matter of identifying the enemy and framing your actions against them such that parties who could involve themselves are willing to let you win the fight.

Point being, LTT is gay lol this is an expected outcome of LTT going corporate in an environment that decidedly forces corporate entities to behave this way or bust. Though this isn't the way things have to be. Under a system which would have corporations incentivized to behave honorably, honor based cultures would disproportionately prosper and unscrupulous people would find themselves disproportionately persecuted. Not that any sane person has a problem with that but it provides a barrier to a better future in the form of a quite influential parasitic ethos.

Re: him being held out of the spotlight...well, yea. I am not a serious viewer of imbecile Linus, so someone who can suck their own dick might refute me on this. But it seems like in the months leading up to and since he went public with his delusions, Anthony has been left out of videos and thumbnails. I suspect that Linus is personally uncomfortable with trannies on staff, but since he lives in a country where you can sue women for not touching your dick (in a human rights tribunal no less!), he can't just fire the guy. A rare good, albeit forced, business decision from Linus.

Dude has his own trannie sister that is apparently scraping by on disability despite being related to 100 Million dudebro. Oh and his dad thinks trannies should kill themself. Oh and his mom is abusive towards mentally ill gender confused minors.

So Anthony, if you are reading this, what think you now about that union possibility?

Hell, damn near everything they do is self funded. Any time they travel somewhere, including to when they go to corporate offices, is self funded. They don't even allow the corporation they visited to buy them dinner. All of their pre-built reviews are self funded. The overwhelming majority of parts they review they buy themselves.
Some turbo-autists expect them to do this purely off of patreon and shilling Ray-cons and Better Help, apparently.
