Linus bought another fucking server.

And, I'm not the most competent sysadmin or anything; but I'm also not in a position where I can just buy gear and design shit the way I want it. This idiot is, and he just seems to enjoy dropping thousands of dollars to fuck around instead of make a real storage solution that works and isn't so unstable. Yeah you have Petabytes of storage, but segment that shit off and cut it down into smaller clusters for different work sections and redundancy you retard. Imagine spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on server hardware and having it crash and burn, and still not getting it right.

Also wouldnt he just need a tape solution?

You know what is worse? In that video they justify it. Saying dumb shit like "for over a year we have had 0 problems." Back up solutions are there for redundancy. It is always a have it and not need it, than need it but don't have it situation.
But even in the worse case. They would just make a video saying "WE LOST ALL OUR DATA!" and get sympathy clicks. He likes to larp as someone who needs almost bespoke level of server tech to do video editing. I have 0 idea why his wife signs off on all this bullshit, she should have some idea picked up by osmosis by now.
This video is prime trust fund kid level of showing off. Half the stuff he shows is not even sold to regular consumers when it comes to servers. It is all BtB stuff. There is nothing tech tips about it at all. It is not like these servers can be shown doing anything interesting to a general audience. It is why 90% of the content is them filling the server with hard drives and doing unfunny in jokes and """""""""banter""""""""". It is actually really funny to see them try so hard to make a few higher numbers on the screen interesting at all. Numbers going up, is all most server tech does these days. It is not like the old days where it would set interesting and weird standards that would filter down in to consumer tech. They are mostly dry of good idea's.

I not a sysadmin but I have a lot of experience on Linux, my home-server is just an old optiplex with 3 HDD's that runs on LVM and I feel that I know more than Linus and his team on server management.

Something triggers on me when he and his team build an ZFS array with 10 drives and even more that they don't setup any monitoring tool for it, so I expect that in 1-2 years he makes another video where he will lose everything again.

Also, if you want a good laugh, when people called him out for the poor setup of the server(about a year before this last one), he said this:

What makes it horrible is he gets all these enterprise level solutions like he's Microsoft or Amazon and they're opening a regional office somewhere; but what does he do with it, gushes about storage space, listens to the fans whirl, do a configuration, and test some speeds. He may want to do cool shit, but his tard-wrangling wife should also tell him they have to make smart business decisions, especially after buying a warehouse (with remorse) when property prices are inflated as fuck. Not buy another $20,000+ storage solution you don't fucking need; and if that "archival footage" is so damn important to him, 3-2-1. Have your Petabyte server, but also have tapes in a climate controlled vault/safe or Iron Mountain, and dump the third on an Archive Blob on Azure or whatever, I hear they have good rates... as long as you don't find yourself trying accessing it (archive tier is cheap™, as long as you treat it as an archive). But no, let's play with all these mechanical drives (and drop them), make this huge fucking array, and make it so everything goes to shit if you lose more than 2 drives out of 60.

Segmenting, subnetting, containerization, etc. helps alleviate risks... Whether it's devices, your network, or other shit, cutting things up into smaller pieces and making them more independent helps to where you may only have to sever a limb instead of lose the entire body. But no... big ole Petabyte... oh shit, something broek!

I've always wondered if his insistence on editing on the server is valid or not. I don't work on video editing much outside of a hobby but for stuff at work it's always do your work on your computer then upload the complete file to the server, and have it on your local drive and usually a usb backup too. Videos take a lot of space but it seems that he doesn't trust the employees to do what they're supposed to be doing.

Considering that he put his employees to "help" him moving out because he finds paying about 40usd for an extra day of a u-haul truck expensive, shows that he wouldn't pay for a cold storage service.

Even if he doesn't want to pay for an cold storage service, he could put a server(which he would fuck it up)/tape rack on colocation or even on his home but he's too retard and ignorant for that.

I keep up with the home improvements because it's like watching reality TV except I don't have to pay for cable AND get to watch a man blow his money on silly IoT or otherwise unfeasible solutions.

The light switch thing was pretty stupid to me. Motion detectors work in commerical space where being a penny-pinching Jew makes sense, not at home. Also the whole trying to alter the firmware kerfuffle started because Linus didn't like how the switch would gradually brighten/dim the fixture instead of a binary on/off reaction. A relay attached to a motion detector in line with the lighting circuit would've done the thing he wanted without the IoT drama but where's the fun in that I suppose.
I'm a rube that's still impressed by dimmer switches and socket timers, so I fail to see the appeal of IoT light switches outside sheer novelty.
Addressable WRGB diode arrays in LED bulbs is a cool party trick and easy way to set mood lighting but the idea of yet another proprietary app to control the blasted things and availability of cheap WRGB strips makes it less ideal. I trust the models reactive to sound even less, that's one more NSA microphone in my house. Why this man wants his house full of literal spyware is beyond me, but the trainwreck is fun to watch.

I'd wager most people throw themselves at LMG to get an opportunity to work with him because he's some Youtube celebrity in tech. It wouldn't be surprising if most of the nerdling employees there followed him since his NCIX days. I'd find it difficult, if I had any measure of talent in video editing or production, to hang around LMG and produce clickbait videos day-in-day-out for meager pay. I wouldn't be shocked if most of his staff cleared around 65-85k a year. Smart people move up and move the fuck on. They certainly don't show up miserable to their boss's new McMansion and pretend to enjoy themselves being filmed moving shit. Exploitable (usually young) cheap employees do this cringy shit.

I watched his new warehouse tour video through my fingers. He's in a peyote haze believing he's going to be this great innovator in bench testing technology at scale, or some other half-baked shit. He's going to go broke employing a large staff of people dedicated to testing hardware to a level nobody really gives a shit about. Your average consoomer will happily make their wallet ejaculate over the most basic consumer product review. Who knows, maybe there is some business plan here that doesn't involve more Youtube videos. I know he's trying to be ironic and woefully unfunny with his Jobs avatar but I think there's a piece of him that buys into it.

I'm not autistic enough to really care much about this shit and I'd guess neither is his average subscriber. If I wasn't some loser living in his mother's basement and I had control over his megacorp I'd stick with clickbait videos, keep my roster lean and quietly invest the Youtube bux into some fixed income investments and live off the interest and the money obtained from selling plushy dicks and LTT branded dildos.

More screwdriver info. TLDR summary image at the bottom of the post.

Linus is arguing with someone complaining about the build quality based off of his impressions of the preassembly picture shared on the LTT twitter.
A third person jumps in and points out that the design looks really similar to another screwdriver on the market:

Linus admits that they just licensed the design from someone else (this tweet is not a direct reply of the one above, which is why the first line doesn't make sense):

The person he is arguing with does a price check on the Megapro screwdriver and discovers that they are way cheaper than the LTT screwdriver:

I think all Linus did was buy a new injection mold for the handle and licensed all the functional parts of the screwdriver from Megapro. Look at the three parts of the screwdriver he mentions: the bit holder, the ratchet mechanism, and the handle. He's already admitted to licensing the first two parts, which are the core of the screwdriver. The part he brings up to prove that his screwdriver is different, the handle, is just a shell around the working parts.

I think he did this to visually differentiate his screwdriver from the one he bought the design of so it doesn't look like the total knockoff that it is. It would be way cheaper to reuse one of the existing handle molds, inject black and orange plastic, and slap the LTT logo on it. Injection molds are "tooling" and they are expensive, and he would need to sell a lot of screwdrivers to pay off the mold(s). Since a "luxury" screwdriver is a niche item and he probably won't sell enough of them to lower his per-unit costs, Linus made the rational choice to milk his whales by ripping them off with a $70 screwdriver.

TLDR: I dare you to look at this picture and tell me that the LTT screwdriver isn't a total knockoff of this $35 screwdriver (Archive):

It was a shitty move by him to do that. Because despite his sperging on the WAN show about how good of a boss he is and how DEY COULD JUST SAY NO!. We all know he would not act like that. Because he is soy soaked and has admitted that he does not like confrontation. I expect he is a catty bitch queen bee faggot behind his youtube persona. The sort of person who would do petty shit like withhold bonuses and promotions to those who did say no to moving his new money ass stuff to new houses. You think anyone in this world inflation shit, is going to risk pissing on the boss? "They can say no" is only valid when there is a level playing field between people. Between guys who own company's and employees, the balance of power is fully in the hands of the guy who owns the company. That is why you can't trust anything he says about being a good boss. He was shit talking the guy who was behind that artesian builds shitstorm, but i would bet most things i have that Linus is just as bad. If not worse than him. His only crime was a slipping mask. Well that and not giving a free pc to a thot.

At that price, I'd just shell out to try PB Swiss shit. I've never used one before, but heard they're great for not completely ruining screw heads - a thing that I've noticed has been happening increasingly frequent whenever I try to fix shit at home. Is there some decline in screw quality as well?

This whole trend of creator branded shit is really bothering me. Did this creator tune the screw driver to be extra good at mounting a CPU cooler? If not, why not just get one from an actual tool brand?

Kind of like headphones. You can get one from a gaming company that always feel like its designed to last about a year or two so you'll buy on the next release cycle OR, you can get one from a proper headphone maker that has cables and other parts that can be replaced, and if you get a popular model, an entire made in china market of spare parts.

70 doll-hairs for a screwdriver is nutty unless it's some tool autist brand like PB Swiss or Nepros or if it's something unique like the antique styled tools that Hand Tool Rescue makes and sells.

In reality, most home gamers don't need the PB Swiss or Nepros tool because they aren't using it enough to make or save money. They're great tools but the price makes them either a very thoughtful Christmas gift for the handyman in your life or a somewhat vain purchase for men that might only use a screwdriver a dozen times a year.
This makes the LTT screwdriver an even worse value proposition. It's a licensed design that they made new tooling for and ostensibly can't justify a reasonable price after those costs are considered so push themselves into a market segment where quality is king. It's not gonna have a good time.
I fail to see how among "creator designed" tools this competes with Hand Tool Rescue's vintage style screwdrivers in the quality department. Sure it ratchets and has a variety of bits but it's just a tarted up consumer grade product offered for a premium price.
Hell, GamersNexus offers a screwdriver set for PC building at a reasonable price and it comes with more than one screwdriver in common and uncommon types in non-standard dimensions to account for PC building constraints.

It's stupid to get worked up over a dumb creator product but this one is extra dumb. It's gonna be a fun trash fire to watch when the reviews come in.
