He made a video talking about the clickbait thumbnails a while ago.

I can understand why its done, but I do find them tiring when almost every big channel in existence uses them to focus on appeasing the algorithms above users, which is his intention. There are lots of channels that make due (and extremely effectively in some cases) without resorting to appeasing the algorithms with such thumbnails. Vague names that take advantage of peoples curiosity are also annoying when the videos behind them are predictable and often dramatic rather than unpredictable, fascinating new perspectives such as with LEMMiNO's and EmpLemon's channels (who put an extrordinary amount of effort into their videos and don't need algorithm-appeasing thumbnails).

The video also talks about some other slimy stuff he's done that he tries to excuse rather than just admitting as plain wrong, and of course there's an advertisement at the beginning.

I don't think soy-face appeases the algorithm as much as branding/logo being featured in the thumbnail. Seeing a human looking like someone will feed them a whole cucumber might be more enticing than some or it's become "on brand" and to pop that recognition factor. For personality driven channels having the personality in the thumbnail makes sense but that doesn't mean other channels have to use it and many don't.

Linus looking like that in a thumbnail is his brand at this point. I don't think he can retire, especially now, and having the thumbnails be fatfuck or shaggy even if that would be more true to content would be a disaster.

For comparison to the fucking leaf, LA infected tranny lover Austin Evans is moving locations and you see his new space:

I wonder more about this than Linus, because he at least owns one building that can be an asset, and BC isn't as fucked as CA real estate. But that's a lot of space for what is three channels. I also expect more vandalism and break ins with all that open glass that's probably inefficient as fuck because it was made with illegal labor.

Hey guys, is robbery worth it?

So my grandfather who was a CPA back in 1970's California told me the only business he saw that made money was the ones that owned the land they were located on.

how ever I would be super nervous buying realestate when the income is based on youtube clicks.

Think of it all youtube has to do is flip a few switches and boom, your done.

In the case of LTT they could still post on Floatplane and have merch sales, but that's not nearly enough to keep them running for long. While buying property is risky, I think it does make some sense. If the company goes under you at least have assets to liquidate.

If Linus was smart he would have back end business instead of the channels. Build and sell computers.

Yeah, I can't quite tell if these business models are sustainable because traditional media (TV) is effectively dead and this is where the ad dollar firehose is spraying, or if they're all going to be toast during a real recession when ad spending gets crushed.

Probably a middle ground where if you don't have 50 people and million dollar warehouses you'll be able to weather anything as long as your corporate deepthroating skills are up to snuff.

There's no margin in building computers these days. There's a reason why there are hardly any Mom and Pop computer stores left.

Then you have the hassle of dealing with retarded users clogging up support lines and service centers... and given how retarded the typical LTT viewer is, there would be a LOT of hassles.

Linus is a lot of things, but a dumbass isn't one of them.

He is definitely not a complete dumbass, however he is very confident in topics he knows nothing about. Classic dunning-kruger...
Yeah, I probably didn't phrase it all that well. Linus is definitely a walking posterboy for the Dunning-Kruger Effect.

What I was getting at is that no matter how much dumb shit Linus does, he has his limits. Going into the PC hardware business in 2022 is such a dumb idea that not even Linus would attempt it.

He was also smart enough to marry a Chinese woman that's able to carry the intellectual load required for both of them to operate what is an apparently successful business (if we take it on face value and assume that she didn't recruit Linus as a Chinese asset... maybe Linus is just a useful idiot after all?).

I saw this mentioned in a video of another youtuber I follow who does emulation stuff. Linus Cuck Tips did a Switch emulation video with a "hurr durr just try to strike us Nintendo" vibe to it. But...all the game footage in the video is blurred? I'm sure Nintendo try to strike people who talk about emulation but from what I've seen it tends to be when you show Nintendo game footage. All of the emulation focused channels I follow openly talk about Nintendo emulation, including Switch, but tend to blur or obscure game footage.

So I'm confused by the LTT video. If you really wanted to "take on Nintendo" or whatever, wouldn't you show the gameplay?
