Linus Gabriel Sebastian & Linus Media Group / Linus Tech Tips - Narcissistic corporate shill YouTuber driving his media empire into the ground. KILL COUNT: 2

This all seems like an excuse for him to make his own Fag Leafe brand of energy drink, with all his employees soyfacing for the can label.
Here, Linus - if you want an energy drink so bad, I already designed the can for you. Not much worse than your mats, if I say so myself.

4k is really only viable on disks or downloaded straight to your hard drive; via the internet you need fiber, which I'm sad to say, isn't happening everywhere for a very long time. Good for me, my personal hobby is disc collecting and the occasional disc drive repair, but for many its a pain in the ass which I fully get. Even then like has been mentioned, in order to get out the full image in 4k, you need HDR, OLED, and Dolby Atmos doesn't hurt seeing how many movies now come with it. 1080 is still king and will be for a very long
To this day the SuperBowl isn't broadcast in 4k which says a lot.

Their editors, camera-mans must be shit then. I see smaller youtubers liking the experience of blackmagick cameras, while LTT with way more people can't use it
They're overkill for office/interior use.
I only see filmmakers and camera review guys use them.
LTT don’t use the Blackmagic‘s anymore. They bought like 10 of them sight unseen, found the cameras were unsuitable for their use case, then sold them all (I think at a loss, but not sure). Now they use Sony cameras.
That's hilarious, bet he thinks the gh4 is just too amateurish despite being the camera of choice 95% of channels for budget and practicality reasons if you want 4k.

So more chasing the mythical 'perfect' gear instead of accepting or adapting to good enough. I wonder if it has to do with their ingest setup - I'm not particularly knowledgeable around that space, but what I do know is generally it should be universal across recording equipment with the exception of the very end hardware - card readers etc. Once your at the "pulling data off storage" part, everything should be good.

However, we've seen the rest of their IT setup. I have no reason to believe they don't have some frankstein of an ingest setup that was super special cased to one single quirk of a camera they used 15 years ago that made life slightly easier, and now they've just been chasing that experience on stuff wholly unsuited to it. And rather than stepping back and saying "If all these cameras aren't working with our setup, maybe our setup is broken", they're just throwing money at the problem and chasing perfection.

It was exactly that. They couldn't figure out how to work with Blackmagic's raw files in whatever convoluted Adobe Premier set-up they have and were "forced" to do some janky-ass work-around using Davinci Resolve to convert the raw files into another codec.

I'd just be thankful to have any 4k camera at all, that tech is cutting edge, it's going to be a decade at least before anywhere in the third world like South America gets their hands on shitty clones.

Seeing this pattern repeatedly I don't think it is the chase to perfection, It is more like Linus has FOMO.
sort of like spending on the very best and latest thing just so you don't miss out on the best standard, when in reality you have no idea how to make use of it, use less than 50% of it or jsut breaking it.
Similar to PC enthusiast going for an overkill build n get a watercooled 4090 with an EPYC cpu but jsut use it for youtube or LoL.
Like the LTT lab equipment, Their workshop and their server.

Blackmagic cameras are highly regarded by proper cinematographers. Yet another example of Linus specifying equipment that's extreme overkill for his use cases. Though I gotta admit it's pretty funny when he does this shit on his own dime for a change, especially if it involves taking an L on resale.

And he justifies it by trying to turn everything into a video, which tends to make it worse as he janks it up for the video lulz.

If I were in his position, I'd separate show fuckery from workflow. Keep basic, cheap, reliable, 2 year behind the curve gear for all your work, and have a whole separate, isolated network and hardware setup for all the big fuckery. Then you can throw even stupider shit at it for views, like building a server array capable of surviving a zip bomb or something equally dumb fun kind of energy.

The workshop is immensely wasted potential, and I feel like there was a different plan for it initially. Actually manufacturing things for selling through the merch store, Artisanal merch style. Probably realized the expense compared to the margin was not worth it, well after buying a fuckton of equipment. So now most of it languishes, because using a hacksaw is 'funnier' and the video comes before the product. I'm guessing the Lab became the second effort to use that Capital, he's clearly so mentally focused on "reinvest in the business" that he's not giving much thought to "Is it needed and does this investment make sense". You'd think a guy who's complained about the infinite expansion meme would stop trying to chase infinite expansion. At some point, you sit back, have a thriving, viable, sustainable business, and you don't want to fuck with it anymore. If you want more cashflow, start a new company in an unrelated sector, and your little corporate collection will become all the more resilient for it.

holy fuck one of his employees is a complete anime weeb with a hard on for evangelion and wasted most of his 5k budget on pc parts that collaborated with fucking evangelion but the best part is he got a linus body pillow :story:
