It is not just pirate websites. Back in the late 00s/early 10s a county near me government's computers got infected by some malware/virus/adware (I don't remember what exactly it was just pre-cryptoware) by ads running on a local news paper website.

Websites do not take responsibility for the ads they run blaming the ad company, ad companies do not take responsibility for the ads they get paid to show and are all too happy to show ads that will infect your computer or are scams. Then they cry about people using ad block.

It is however quite unfortunate now with the rollout of Apple Silicon that server will either have to remain on old parts/OS versions or they will have to switch their entire workflow over to a new system (which is what i gathered to be the preferred intent considering Seagate sent them an entire new machine to replace the existing one)

I'd go as far as to suggest that if there was a server build-off between Marty and Linus, Marty would whoop Linus' ass.

Hardware wise would barely make a difference. Their constant configuration fuckups and fetishizing chasing every bottleneck over "Good enough for the goal" would give them an L every time. I don't know who these MCM folks are, but if they managed to make a functional long lifespan server setup outta a hackintosh pile, they clearly know enough about what matters.

They're one of the oldest auto channels on YT. They started 15 years ago and have millions of viewers worldwide. Most of their cars have been DIY builds, which is why Marty's DIY built server is a classic MCM move.

Marty seems pretty proud of his server (and so he should be) and all these comments from Linus stans are an insult to Marty IMHO.

Unironically, I think part of it is keeping it away from his kids and the other half is he just doesn't know what he's doing (making shit more complicated than necessary). Because from what I can tell, it has something to do with being able to jump on any of the computers in the game room while having his actual device not in the room (and thus away from his kids and any visiting friends). But instead of doing something effective like having an AD/Domain for his home and requiring every device to connect to it to access what Linus has setup and keeping a lock on shit; he has to stash his device in the basement and create a problem that no one else in the world would subject themselves to.
