Clearly it's not a "oh no we don't have the time to reshoot the video", that's the magic of editing, you can cut and fix things in post. Hell, for this part you don't even need Linus to do the ADR, just mute the part.

I was getting into the pc building space. Generally for guides.

Steve has more integrity than Linus. And GN is a serious consumer first tech YT channel.

There are 100 employees now; maybe the issue is what they are doing. So many of them work on products and contact with sponsors - basically it is a retail company with a youtube channel attached.

I am just at the beginning. First, great move to use LTT interview of their own employees against them (LMAO), and second, why are heads of whole teams/divisions complaining about the same exact thing? James is head of the writers, Riley held some higher up position (idk if he does still - he does still manage one or two of the side channels tho iirc).

With Lady Fiona, discontent from overpacked LTT, constant mistakes - I don't see it going too well for LTT.

Idk why LTT is incapable of admitting a mistake and just move on. "Oh uh, sorry. I am such an hard-r and missed peeling the plastic :/ We will film another unboxing/review and for now delete this one"... then moving on. SC is even their ad channel, no one cares. Well, maybe for a product that was gifted to their VIP pass holders they should have cared tho.

What QC do they do? This is a small rabbit hole I fell into a few weeks ago but then decided to not post. I still cannot be bothered to 100% confirm it. But when I had checked, the more recent videos stopped reporting a QC person, while there was almost always someone named in their previous videos. Maybe it's due to them changing how they do credits, but maybe it's just lowering the standards.

GN is pretty much the only PC tech channel I routinely watch. Yeah, his videos aren't fruity and over the top and 'entertaining', but they're actually useful info and aren't full of bullshit. They actually do a journalism, personal relationships be damned.
LTT is the twinkie of tech youtubers. Fluff, filler, no actual nutritional value.

And my cat just puked on the floor behind me, that's what she thinks of LTT, too.


EDIT: I listened to LTT *once*. When they said the noctua d-15 cooler was better than water coolers and showed their 'charts', so I got one. While it is a great air cooler it is in no way better than even a mediocre AIO. Just look at any of the CPU cooler charts GN puts out.

I love the section about that 3090 waterblock. They explicitly told Adam that its for a 3090 and maybe a 4090 might work. But he just said fuck it on filming day and used it. Steve mentions that the products have difference tolerances. Linus says he's an expert at this shit and then shows him putting the block on backwards.

I take back my comment about it being brutal. I think its more brutal that Steve didn't dress up with music, cursing, or anything else. Just laying the facts out bare for all to see.

Bingo - Linus has built a huge portion of his personal influencer reputation around being the cool, good boss. He's never shied away from making money or working people hard for it, but he's always presented the idea that in return his people are exceedingly well off, very stable employment, the whole nine yards of 'perfect boss'. He's genuinely fought hard to keep this reality in the face of economic truths, as ad rates plummet, sponsor payouts decline, and the cost of operations and cost of living goes up, especially in fucking vancouver.

They have too many people making too thin of margins to support the operation at anything other than breakneck speeds. A bad, factually incorrect video produces the vast majority of the revenue an accurate video does, any controversy of being wrong should die off in a week, and that cold hard math says fuck it, release it anyway. If that game stops, the money stops, and you rapidly end up in a layoffs situation.

Linus's personal reputation was built off not being that guy. He's staked so much over the last decade on not being that guy, on being the one who always got it right in the end, and he's going to fight tooth and nail to avoid it happening, even if it destroys his brand in the long run - which it will. Outside of the immediate consequences of reduced public opinion and viewer trust, its incredibly demoralizing for the staff. Its one thing to work your ass off to make something good. Its another thing to bust your ass knowing its fucked, being unable to fix it, and being forced to deliberately push out bad shit anyway. All your effort feels wasted when its garbage in garbage out. And you have to think about the rest of your career too - If LTT gets a wider reputation for constantly fucking up, those years of LTT on your resume become a liability and not an assurance. The talented people will see the wind shift and fuck off (Some already have, evidently) and the ones that remain are prone to more issues, and can't/won't put the effort in to find work elsewhere. You death spiral on talent that fucks up more and more, handles it less and less gracefully, and nobody wants to work with you anymore.

Its not a novel experience either - Look at how fast a competency crisis absolutely nuked that Artesian Builds company. One poorly masked corporate dick move, atop an already shaky and floundering organization seeing talent bleed, lead to a complete implosion. LTT is not immune to this.
