Linus Gabriel Sebastian & Linus Media Group / Linus Tech Tips - Narcissistic corporate shill YouTuber driving his media empire into the ground. KILL COUNT: 2

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
I am happy that he at least got a month+ worth of PTO before being laid off. If I recall correctly, the severance package for being laid off there was pretty decent.
Linus does try to live up the the good boss image. Especially on important people who have real skills and have contacts in the industry. It does not have to go on Glassdoor, to get word round if he decided to fuck someone over. A DM to the right person about any funny business over staff, would kill his reputation.
What he fails on most of the time is unrealistic goals and being a massive argumentative fag when people call him out.

such a shitty Linus paintjob.
I painted my $500 civic hatchback in my dad's garage when i was in highschool and it came out better. Firstly because i took time to prep the car and secondly because i tested on a sacrificial panel before committing. Total material cost was a few hundred bucks from Benson.

The wheels are way too big for a 7th gen. I'd go for 15x8 +35 max.

Linus flew Mighty Car Mods to Canadastan to do a near total remake of Plouffe's Civic.
I thought the guys from MCM were better than that.

Then again, I don't entirely blame them. I guess they have been going for 16 years and their core audience isn't getting any younger. They probably did it to try and tap into the zoomer and pajeet markets that LTT panders to.

Two things from the early WAN Show this week, so early the time stamp person didn't even do his comment for me to skim:

1) at 1:14:00 Linus has a pity moment about this video about second hand home theater setup doing poorly, asking "do you guys not have phones like tech tips?" People rightly point out Facebook market sucks and is not safe, you're in an affluent area to do this, people already have a home theater setup so don't care, and audio stuff just doesn't get big views. I didn't watch the video and I don't plan to because it's trying to do a home theater for $250 and they compare it to that Bose TV Soundbar that is a big seller. People ask for more technical details about why this setup would be better than a soundbar and Linus says that's not possible because it will be too detailed, at which point fuck off Linus, just go pout instead.

2) at 1:30:50 Linus recognizes criticism of not talking about the channel hiatuses and personnel stuff, to the point Yvonne told him he dropped the ball. He says it's the law that he can't talk about it and tries to strawman spin it like "durr in an exit interview we'd ask the person if this can be talked about on a podcast" and reading between the lines it seems like a few of these firings were not amicable. He doesn't say much else but this policy won't change, and maybe they shouldn't have had farewell videos by former employees like they did for years from people like Van Burkel and the hand model chick. With how little he said here for 5 minutes he shouldn't have even tried, just another moment of wanting pity like he's a fucking twitch streamer.

WAN Show this week
Did they address why their table is covered in product placement snack food?

I watched the first ~30 minutes (lack of timestamps sucks), Linus getting exacerbated by whoever the new WAN show writer is and bailing out of their LTT Store segment felt really weird. Not surprised he started going off on his viewers for not watching his YouTube videos enough later in the show, he seemed a bit tilted from the get-go.

I think they put the food out because they started earlier yesterday, to a point eurocucks could watch the show live, hence the british goods on the table. I think James is the current temp show writer.

As I wrote that previous post it seems there's ANOTHER stupid home theater thing Linus did for his setup, making a 3D theater that took almost 2 years and it's just as tone deaf as a liberal politician acting like things are fine in the world, dude desperately needs some humility check. They already changed the title of the video, when I first looked it said "A 3D transformation in my basement theater" or something to that effect.

Linus: "dozens of movies are still being released on 3D Blu-ray every single year"
I think that about sums up the entire video. I bet you not a single one of those "dozen" movies are worth watching or even have good 3D in the first place.

I get that he purposefully wastes money for the "epic" videos, but he could have spent money on literally anything else and made a much more relevant video. What a retard.

How is it possible that Linus always seems to do things in the most expensive, confusing, and complicated way? This has been an ongoing project of his for two years and he spent over $8,000 USD on this? He could have put together a comparable setup in just 1 afternoon for 1/5 the price.

Most people have a bad opinion of 3D but it is amazing at home with the right equipment, even better than a cinema and everyone that I've shown my setup to has been extremely impressed and loved the experience. It's really something that you cannot describe or demonstrate on a YouTube video. Unfortunately, a lot of movie studios put out low effort releases that didn't use the format to its best ability early on, and the tech media was overly critical of 3D throughout its revival during the 2010s so most people assume it's not worth it. I mean just look at what Linus thought of 3D in the first 10 seconds of this video.

Contrary to what he says about no new hardware supporting 3D anymore there are plenty of DLP projectors support it right out of the box using 'DLP-Link' glasses. He mentions that his wife gets a headache from using active 3D glasses, however I can almost guarantee that she had a bad experience with active 3D on a TV. Which suffered early on from slow response LCD panels that made the image blurry. If he did some research on the BluRay Forums he'd learn that DLP-Link is vastly superior to TV active 3D. My projector uses it, and the 3D picture is sharp, has no cross talk, no flicker, doesn't need any alignment, and it looks amazing.

Looking on the Best Buy Canada website I found over 50 options for different projectors that natively offer 3D. Like this Benq that has 4K and 3D for $1449 CAD. Which is around he paid for the two projectors off eBay he used in his setup.

Oh, and If you think that the glasses to go with it are expensive you can get them on amazon for $23.00 CAD a pair.

These projectors don't need any special screen and you can literally just watch it shining on a white wall so no $6000 screen necessary (or just reuse the one you already have). Also, it seems so careless to hang said screen off of his thin, very fragile $20,000 OLED tv. More money than common sense.

Even during the final viewing in that video they talk about how there is more tinkering needed to get right and that the projectors aren't in exact alignment which would be extremely distracting. If you get a headache from the flicker of glasses you'll have a migraine from watching a movie that is out of alignment.

TLDR: Linus spent 2 years longer than he needed to, paid 5X the price he could have and ended up with a setup this is expensive, convoluted and a massive pain in the ass to setup and get right.

The quality of the 3D varies wildly between movies, however there are forums where people review movies and rate if it's worth watching in 3D or skipping. The output of new 3D titles is pretty slow these days but not dead, Mission Impossible - Fallout and Migration by Illumination got a 3D release last October and both have excellent reviews for the 3D. The same company that got the rights to release them has plans to release the newer Transformers movies and Bumblebee in the next few months, and then more after that should they be successful. There is also a huge backlog of content that you can get on BluRay discs for only a few dollars each etc. That might not sound like a lot but given how bad Hollywood's output has been in the last couple of years it's not too suprising.

The only value those videos have is they serve as a great warning of what not to do and if you do want a retarded setup like his you get a fucking professional to install it so you actually get a working product that'll last.

I don't think i've ever seen a single person using a dbrand skin.
One of my normie friends bought one and complained about them falling apart almost immediately after he applied it on his laptop. Dbrands customer support was terrible and not helping, he ended up getting his money back through the credit card purchase protection scheme.

And of course we made fun of him for buying something recommended by Linus Fag Tips. :smug:

It doesn't look like this has been discussed here yet but following up on the removal of the staffing section of the LTT website, LTT has had significant layoffs today of a few important staff members. Three of their least performant channels are going on an indefinite hiatus to rework their approaches to content, it was posted about on their respective community feeds; Mac Address, GameLinked and TechQuickie. Here's the message that was posted to each:

Techquickie and GameLinked getting "reworked" but Mac Address is just getting mothballed. MacToddlers BTFO!

I'm guessing he didn't clean his laptop and the sticker couldn't adhere to the cum and mountain dew encrusted surface.

I wonder if we'll see a whole bunch of ex-LTT people starting their channels in the same way a whole bunch of ex-Donut Media guys started their own YouTube channels when Donut shat the bed earlier this year.

Given that Donut is the LTT of CarTube, it could hold some clues as to the future of some ex-LTT "talent".
Ltt came about the same way, Linus used to work for NCIX making reviews, but eventually they let him make the Ltt channel to give him more editorial freedom and distance themselves from any issues that may arise.

It'd be ironic if a whole bunch of ex-LTT people end up starting their own channels. Though I suspect LMG may have a non-compete clause in their employment contracts.

Nope, Canadian Law is very restrictive on Non-Competes. For employees like the folks that are out, they'd find it impossible to keep them from making a new channel - As their primary skillset and talent is media production, a non-compete restricting them from media production would be defacto illegal, as an unreasonable restraint on their ability to actually work at all. Even if they were willing to pay out full wages for the non-compete period as some form of compensation or consideration, you'd also have to convince a judge as to why it is a threat for them to engage in the business activities that you dismissed them from, which would basically die on the vine when it comes to "It didn't make money" - If its not profitable, why are you so concerned about them doing it? Simply being a competing media source would not be close to enough, since you hired them to do that in the first place. Its not your knowledge its theirs, that's why you fucking hired them.

For the most part, unless you've got the jewiest lawyers in existence, its very difficult to enforce non-competes outside of major corporate secrets or senior executive type shit, stuff where your intimate knowledge arriving at a competitor is actually a serious threat. And honestly, that's not really anything inside the LTT corporate structure, even for Luke - There's no revolutionary technology, regulatory compliance, long term fiscal planning of market relevent assets (power plants, manufacturing etc) or anything else that would give a startup unrealistic advantages that could only be gained from LTT knowledge. Just general knowledge of how to run a business and how to do what he does, both of which are an employee talent and not an employer secret.

I will say though, that this assumes that anyone there has sufficient backbone to dispute the non-compete if such a thing is in their docs, and/or that LTT actually cares to try and enforce it if it does exist. I wouldn't be surprised if either the cucks or LTT were too afraid to do anything for that section, the former from being losers and the latter from being terrified of another "Just trust me bro" PR wave of being the guys stomping on fired workers over the weakest of legal possibilities.
