Disaster Man walks into a tax prep business with a gun in each hand and says, “What’s up?”, gets killed.

A man who walked into a suburban Indianapolis tax preparation shop with a gun in each hand was fatally shot by a company employee, police said.

Antonio Bertram, 25, of Indianapolis, said “What’s up?” before he was shot midday Tuesday at the Colbert/Ball Tax Service office in Lawrence, police said. The Indianapolis Star reported he fired a shot or two as he staggered into the parking lot and collapsed in his car

Bertram died of a gunshot to the chest, Lawrence police Deputy Chief Gary Woodruff said.

Investigators believe Bertram was unhappy about a tax return that had been prepared for another person, Woodruff said Thursday. Additional details about the dispute haven’t been released.

The person who shot Bertram was cooperating with the investigation, which is continuing, Woodruff said.

It’s not clear yet whether that person was licensed to carry a handgun, he said. Asked if the person was permitted by the office to carry a gun on the premises, Woodruff said investigators had no reason to believe it was disallowed.

No arrests have been made. Prosecutors will review the case.

There was no video in the business, but several witnesses confirmed the facts at the scene, Woodruff said.

Calls to the Colbert/Ball Tax Service office rang unanswered.

To obtain an Indiana permit to carry a handgun in public, a person must be 18, get fingerprinted, submit to a police background check and pay licensing fees of up to $125 for a lifetime permit. Those with felony or domestic battery convictions are barred from obtaining a license. No permit is needed to carry long guns.

It was his going to church and turning his life around photo.

If you are stupid enough to dual wiled handguns in real life like you are living in an anime, you deserve pretty much whatever's coming to you. Oh, also for the shooting attempt.

I had never heard of the Colbert Ball Tax Preparation Franchise before. It appears to be marketed both in terms of franchisees and (presumably) customers exclusively to African-Americans. See their website. Not a white, Latino or Asian face in sight. Except maybe blurred out.

I will bet my left testicle that this dispute is somehow concerned with the Earned Income Tax Credit. I will bet my right testicle that the dude with the gun was the baby daddy or at least live-in (unreported) boyfriend to the woman (the "other person") who (for whatever) reason failed to qualify for the EITC/had the credit denied/received correspondence from IRS requesting more information, and in the meantime had their refund held up. Fraud is absolutely rampant in this program. Your tax dollars at work.

If I had a third testicle I'd bet that this tax preparation franchise itself was an EITC fraud factory AND that they made some dubious promises about when the refund was coming and how easy the money would be to get. Most of these store-front places are, they can't really afford to operate otherwise.

Earned Income Tax Credit: Small Benefits, Large Costs

Errors and Fraud
A major weakness of the EITC is the program’s high rate of overpayments, which are caused by math errors, misunderstanding of the rules, and fraud. The EITC error rate has been more than 20 percent since at least the 1980s.24 The Internal Revenue Service reports that the EITC error and fraud rate in 2014 was 27 percent, which amounted to $18 billion in overpayments.25

People are receiving excess EITC payments based on false information about such items as their income level, filing status, and qualifying children. The EITC is an easy target for dishonest filers because it is refundable, meaning that people can simply file false tax returns and see if the Treasury sends them a check. Errors and fraud also plague the other large refundable credit, the child tax credit (CTC). The improper payment rate for the CTC is more than 25 percent, thus wasting about $6 billion a year.26

If it was in a bad neighborhood, that would explain why one of the workers was concealed carrying. A family member who works for one of the bigger tax preparer joints said their branches have had people shot because dumbfucks try to rob them because of the advertising saying “you could get $3K back!!”, and not understanding that it’s a refund. There’s almost no money in those locations.

Yeah, this has "ghetto dispute" written all over it.

Someone got denied a credit because he can't remember all his kids' SS#s because he hasn't seen rhem in 5 years, can't claim them, and decided to cap the clerk "foe dissin" him cuz "you gibs em discounts to everyone else, why you not gibbin em to me?!"

What a dumbass. You can’t just go somewhere waving around a gun (or guns, in his case) and expect that things are going to end well for you. At best you’re looking at a prison sentence.
