I have a spare hard drive full of GoG installers and Fitgirl Repacks that I burn onto CDs to give to friends the old fashioned way and I am really big into physical ownership with everything

I own my Halo 2 disk and I hate the idea of not owning my media, I even have an old Battlefield 4 PC disk somewhere and I can put that in and host my own servers for multiplayer

The old multiplayer only Sisyphean hamster wheel games at least let you physically own them, Epic Goyims took down all the Unreal Tournament games off Steam and GoG, but because GoG is DRM free you can just get the Unreal collection off of internet archive and host your own servers and still play UT2K4 without needing an account or a service to host it for you

Any dumb Zoomer should play Unreal Tournament 2k4 to realize how much of its DNA is in Fortnite, and I am not even old myself but just like games that were before my time

Something I learned from playing lots of MMORPGs when I was younger (D2 and WOW especially) is that people just don't know how to play cooperative video games anymore. They don't pay attention, they don't read guides, they don't watch video walkthroughs, they don't read raid chat. They will stand in the fire and then get mad at you for telling them not to.

It was not this bad even ten years ago and I don't know WTF happened. There's a whole new generation of normie gamers playing MMOs whose ideal game is one where you pay no attention and watch TikTok in the background but can just press some buttons and still win. The problem is they're in your raid group getting pissy because that's not how any remotely team-focused game works and they want you to rewrite reality for them.

I am actually shocked how popular Destiny 2 still is. Steam numbers are low but according to Bungo tards it has six digit player base across all platforms. I tried it few times and while shooting part was fine the rest of the game was pure nonsense to me. I had no idea what's going on, why I am doing things, why I am shooting and why I should care so I lost interest quickly.
If Sony was smart they would scrap Marathon team and start them deving Destiny 3 since they have so many suckers.

Literally any live service game as big as Density 2 can be shut down or taken away from you at a moment's notice for any reason if the management so much as fucks up at their position and if there was at least a GoG installer or something equivalent it would not be an issue

4 billion dollars for 2 different franchises that are all going to have their service cut possibly within weeks if not months of each other. I cant think of anything similar to this.

Even though Destiny 2 is a played out dead game, at least it had a proven audience. I would of killed Marathon for Destiny and tried to do something to lure back those players, but they are taking the gamble on Marathon, I don't think it's going to pay out.

Once upon a time, D2 shipped with a pack-in campaign called The Red War, which was an introduction campaign designed to properly introduce the world and story of Destiny. The plot was kinda shitty and generic but it at least helped new players actually onboard properly.

Then one day Bungie decided they'd bloated the game with too much content, so they introduced the "Destiny Content Vault" and literally just hacked out massive portions of the game, including DLCs people had paid for and The Red War. Suddenly, new players had no proper onboarding and all they were left with was a smattering of random disconnected missions and features they didn't know how to work. It's why the only people who play D2 now are ride-or-die niggas who have been there since the start, because it's a herculean effort for new people to get to grips with things.

The mass removal of DLC was even worse because it axed at least 300USD worth of content people had paid for. I think that's the biggest reason Marathon isn't pulling in new people; why on earth would you give money to a company that's set the precedent of being able to take away almost half a grand worth of content you'd paid for with no recourse?

(Incidentally Bungie got sued last year over accusations of plagiarism with Red War's story and they literally could not produce gameplay of it because it no longer runs with the current build of D2. So the "vaulted" content is essentially forever lost media now.)

@The Noise UT2k4 has been released for free recently, I'm not sure of the exact details, but they patched it for modern systems. I'm sure there's some kind monkey's paw bullshit going on with it though.

Dota 2 is sort of protected from servers dying since you could host servers. At least there is a Dota 2 classic stuck on 6.84 or something.
