You arent wrong, but Marathon isn't living up as an extraction shooter.
There are also only 4 maps, so the game is neither deep nor wide in terms of progression.

Not about (you) but I thought you would appreciate it.
Marathon was so bad it killed destiny lmao, I wonder what the next fag cope will be?
The next cope has already started, it just depends on the camp you are in
Marathon camp:
"Now that Bungie has killed destiny, they can put all their focus on Marathon and making it the game it should have always been!".

Destiny camp:
"Now that we have 80,000 petition signatures, Bungie and Sony will have to save D2 and work on D3. Let's do a save destiny day on June 6th where we all log in and play the game!"
Reality is neither side is going to get what they want. Destiny 2 going into MM was just another finger on the monkey's paw curling.

Something I learned from playing lots of MMORPGs when I was younger (D2 and WOW especially) is that people just don't know how to play cooperative video games anymore. They don't pay attention, they don't read guides, they don't watch video walkthroughs, they don't read raid chat. They will stand in the fire and then get mad at you for telling them not to.

It was not this bad even ten years ago and I don't know WTF happened. There's a whole new generation of normie gamers playing MMOs whose ideal game is one where you pay no attention and watch TikTok in the background but can just press some buttons and still win. The problem is they're in your raid group getting pissy because that's not how any remotely team-focused game works and they want you to rewrite reality for them.
nah, this was totally normal back when i played wow in like 2010. When it was at it's peak popularity i would probably wager like 50% of the players legitimately did not want to and never intended to do raids, they just wanted to dungeons and quests forever, but that was the end game so people were pushed into it. they kept lowering the bar for what a raid was during TBC and WOTLK because people weren't able to reach the bar. It kind of made sense that it took too much effort to gather 40 competant players to do a raid which is why they switched to 10/25 man raids and gave out raid gear doing dungeons. They basically just pandered to people who had no intention of actually engaging with the game beyond the dopamine treadmill.

you would pretty regularly run into people who were like level 60+ that really did not know how their class worked. hunters with spirit/int gear, spellpower shamans, people who literally never respecced their character from their initial "oh that looks cool" leveling talent tree into a specific character build and have no concept of such a thing, who get pissy with you when you ask them why they're doing less dps than the healer.

4 billion dollars for 2 different franchises that are all going to have their service cut possibly within weeks if not months of each other. I cant think of anything similar to this.

Even though Destiny 2 is a played out dead game, at least it had a proven audience. I would of killed Marathon for Destiny and tried to do something to lure back those players, but they are taking the gamble on Marathon, I don't think it's going to pay out.
Blizzard being bought by Activision, ABK being bought by MS, Bethesda, and Rareware were all huge studios that were bought and then just completely turned to dogshit. Which it to say nothing of smaller studios on the same track.

It's really common by now so it's not surprising that Bungie is awful, considering they were last good ~15-20 years ago.

Bungie was never good and has always had poor financial decision making. Halo and it's success can be credited to a handful of people, who aren't with the studio anymore, and Microsoft tard wrangling them into meeting timelines and quality expatiations.

If Bungie was a self publishing studio from the beginning, Halo 2 would have been a delayed and broken mess. And Halo 3 wouldn't have ever seen the light of day.

It's pretty close to what I'm saying.

PvE events are good, but adding more of them isn't going to fix the problems of it sucking as an extraction shooter. I think Dire Marsh has a perfect amount of them. The problem, again, is that they dont reward an appropriate amount of loot and the loot isnt meaningful anyway.

Perimeter and Out post have terrible events, they need fixed.

The way the progression system works, the loot really doesn't matter unless you're lower level. They need to basically just copy/paste the progression of tarkov into this game and it would help a lot.

They've added so many PvE events to the game now that it's a fucking mess... It's actually disgusting to look at, the Map is just covered in bots and bosses some times.

It's just more sound traps for me to be absolutely paranoid of and More loot I don't care about!

IMO the Cryo Archives map should of been almost entirely PvE. Players spend all wee dealing with the stress, pressure, and bullshit the game throws at them. By the end of the week they need some way to decompress and a chance to unwind. They need something to look forward to. Instead we got another high risk slot machine.

I think the entirety of the UESC Marathon and all it's future maps should just be PvE raid encounters, where you need multiple runner teams to kill stuff. I think killing a bunch of aliens in tight corners of the Marathon would be a good Homage to the original games, it's what people want to see. Every Season should release one new map for the Marathon and one new map for Tau Ceti.

Tau Ceti IV's surface should be where the PvP happens and the story unfolds.

The last thing I want to play is some kind of shit Destiny. This game is much closer to being a decent extraction shooter than it is a shitty Destiny.

and if they don't it's GG

Unfortunately, if Bungie continues on this path then a shitty Destiny is what Marathon is destined*heh* to become. It will be a half baked version of both and not satisfying for the audience of either.

Tarkov: has the hardcore
Arc Raiders: has the PvE casuals and PvP adverse
Marathon: will have blast havers

If getting a destiny 3 is contingent on Marathon being successful then it's already jover.

Dota 2 is sort of protected from servers dying since you could host servers. At least there is a Dota 2 classic stuck on 6.84 or something.
I don't want to touch any of those games because I have heard through the grapevine that lots of pedophiles play league of legends and I do not want to know the difference between any of those MOBA games for the reason it attracts that crowd

I am the biggest old school Valve fanboy and love Half Life 1 but CS2 and Dota just give me the ick like its made for people like Finnster or Morgpie and Belle Delphine to stream and promote the Opera GX spyware browser

I know of a guy IRL who literally just sits in his mother's barren basement and plays Tarkov all day for hours at a time, its repugnant and any kind of live service like Marathon is just engineered to get whales like that to spend way more than normal people and seeing that in the flesh just makes me absolutely repulsed at any online only game

You know the expression "if you owe the bank a thousand dollars, it's your problem. If you owe the bank a million dollars, it's their problem?" Sony spent $3.6 billion to acquire Bungie after Microsoft and Activision concluded they were shitty to work with and couldn't control burn rates. If the company admits it was a terrible buy and dismantles Bungie, that's not Bungie's problem, anyone with RSUs got paid out in the acquisition. It's Sony's problem bc they just paid $3.6 billion (cash not Sony equity!) to have a bunch of idiot savants murder-suicide their live service game lineup.

Given the timing involved this is Bungie making a conscious decision to pull the plug on Destiny now in the hopes all of the players pile into season 2 in a few weeks, but that seems like another retard move as they are a year out from having quality pvp content. They are just going to have you hunt existing types of bots in the s2 pve mode and it's going to be lame unless they also let you explore cryo that way, so they're going to antagonize most d2 players by killing it off in favor of Marathon, then the ones that do try are going to bounce off of it completely bc it's not ready for them yet. They really ought to be doing something like offering d2 vets the game at 50% off as a peace gesture

If Marathon is taken off life support they will have to have Bungie come up with Destiny 3 or some sort of legally-distinct Halo "reimagining" bc those are the only things that could sell big enough to make the Bungie acquisition seem like a good idea.

I think about this a lot when I play WoW.

There is no back ground check to play video games. God knows how many fucking creeps I've grouped with. Any time I have the the displeasure of meeting some one whose absolutely ridiculous or unhinged I start to wonder if they have a criminal record.

I really think Marathon is most likely the last game that studio makes. Imagine giving them another 200 or 400 million to dream up some brand new IP, doesnt make any sense.

Kill every fucking tranny involved. Almost 10k more people playing D2 right now. And, while this is anecdotal and should be taken as such, I’ve been playing D1 all day and have had no issues queueing into strikes, PvP, and I found an LFG for VOG in like 5 minutes.

They chose wrong. Die, die and go away, no one who created your legacy works there anymore AND you hired that weird half chink freak Joe Ziegler (he made valorant) to try and save your studio, that alone is execution worthy. Buh bye Bungie!

Blog post:

I loaded up Marathon tonight, the first time in a few weeks that I put real time into it and not just one off matchs. I got my ass kicked like 3 or 4 games in a row, it was miserable. Then I finally landed a decent team, we wiped the map and did the new PvE events. It was a 7/10 experience. I left with a pretty respectable kit as well. I'm about to hit the join match button when I realized I was most likely singing up for another hour or two in the CBT factory before RNGesus gifted me another team that was capable of winning. I did the old alt f4 instead.

Unlike the last time I blog posted about the game, it appears that people have finally figured the game out. People didn't even bother to loot the POIs, they ran straight through them looking for other teams, the one good team I was on preferred to extract rather than waste time doing the PvE, but I insisted. They were right, the new giga bullet sponge that flies in the air and shoots rockets at you? Dropped dog shit loot. I spent more money on meds and ammo to kill that thing than what I looted from it.

A team mate over comms said "This reminds me of Arc Raiders!" while we are dumping mag after mag into the flying shoebox.

Bungie... wtf are we doing here?
